Good morning! I don’t know the quote either, of course. (Almost could be describing one of my brother-in-laws, however.)
I love seeing the avatars each of you have chosen; I would be interested in how you chose the one you use – some, of course, are self-explanatory but others indicate an interesting part of what makes you, you!
I mentioned on an earlier thread that I chose Morning Glories – my favorite annual flower. I plant them all over at our place every spring. My favorite used to be the Heavenly Blue, but I did quite a few of the deep purple with the pink centers this year and I love them as well!

In the meantime, if something shows up here, that’s the noble companion, Finnegan.

His closing paragraph:
So where is God found? He finds us, of course, as he always has, from the beginning, and will to the end, because a parent seeks his children without ceasing. But listen close, and I will tell you where I saw him last. It was just yesterday evening, when Isaac placed his fresh-washed hands in my palms, his face strangely peace-filled, and sang to me in his warbly voice. Here is God, I thought. There is an extremely dishonest website called uncommondescent.com which promotes the religious belief called “Intelligent Design Did It” and tries to disguise it to look like science. Besides being wrong about everything, they refuse to admit the Designer is God, because that would ruin their pathetic attempts to force science teachers to teach their God Did It religion and their false ideas about science. I tried to leave the following comment on their website and of course it was censored. Unlike uncommondescent, WorldMagBlog blog (almost) never censors anything so I will put my comments censored by the dishonest Bill Dembski of uncommondescent here:
Dembski: “At this point critics of intelligent design often protest that design theorists have yet to provide a careful definition of intelligence.”
I’m a critic of ID. I protest the fact Intelligent Design proponents never want to admit invoking Intelligent Design is the same thing as invoking magic or invoking the Magic Man. Why don’t they admit the designer is a supernatural magician? It’s because that would be the same as admitting ID is not science. ID is nothing but a failed attempt to disguise GOD DID IT to look like science. You people are fooling nobody. Everyone knows ID is just a religious belief. Your dishonesty can be only explained because you want to force science teachers to teach GOD DID IT. Since you lost badly in Dover, I ask why don’t you give up this nonsense? Every competent biologist in the world agrees evolution is a proven fact that requires no magic man, because of the massive, powerful, and rapidly growing genetic evidence that you people constantly spread lies about.

Last night I popped a couple of Nyquil and headed for my favorite bookstore. Feeling a little loopy I started gazing at the 2008 calendars, and lo and behold I found one that just warmed my little heart. It was a George Bush “Countdown” calendar (monthly), with 12 pictures of George uttering some of his more umm…”memorable” phrases. Some of the captions were quite funny. Anyway, what a great idea for a calendar. I predict it will be a hot seller.
Speaking of which, one of my co-workers has a Bush countdown clock. It’s a digital clock that is counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds until he leaves office. It’s quite a conversation piece.
Anyway, I’m glad it’s Friday, which means tomorrow is college football! Tomorrow is the Georgia/Tennessee game @ 3:30 on CBS. Go Vols! I’m wearing sack cloth & ashes of Notre Dame this year
Wisconsin is doing well – yeah! I’m hoping that every team in Florida and California loses.
College Football Saturday, Oct. 6th:
Wisconsin @ Illinois (ESPN, noon)
GA Tech @ Maryland (Fox, noon)
Oklahoma @ Texas (ABC, 3:30)
Georgia @ Tennessee (CBS, 3:30)
NC State @ Florida State (ESPN2, 3:30)
VA Tech @ Clemson (ESPN, 6:00)
Notre Dame @ UCLA (ABC, 8:00)
Florida @ LSU (CBS, 8:00)

Man kills self in front of City Council after zoning decision
CLARKSVILLE, Tennessee (AP) — A business owner shot and killed himself during a City Council meeting Thursday night after members voted against his request to rezone his property, witnesses said.
Ronald “Bo” Ward, owner of Bo’s Barber Shop, had told the council his business would go under if he couldn’t get his home rezoned as commercial. After the 5-7 vote Thursday night, Ward stood and walked toward the council.
“Y’all have put me under. … I’m out of here,” he said before shooting himself in the head with a small handgun.

Win some, lose some
Woman finds fortune, turns it in
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A county garbage operations employee found a plastic bag on the road stuffed with $65,000 Thursday — and immediately turned it in to authorities.
It turned out the money had fallen off a Loomis armored car half an hour before Debbie Cole found it near the Pinellas County solid waste operations facility where she works. First she thought it was a turtle in the road.
The 53-year-old Largo woman found the bag just before 7 a.m., full of enough $50 and $100 bills to pay her salary for two years. She immediately contacted a supervisor, who called deputies.
It’s not clear how the bag fell from the truck, said Mark Clark, spokesman for Loomis, a Houston-based cash-handling company.
Cole’s boss, Bob Hauser, said he can’t give her a raise or a bonus for her good deed because she’s a government employee. But maybe, he said, he can arrange some extra time off.
Cole, who grew up in Long Island, said she was raised to be honest. She said she raised her four daughters the same way.
Did she think for just a minute about keeping the money?
“Everyone keeps asking me that,” Cole said. “To be honest, no. It didn’t even cross my mind.”

Although I am not from TN, I was taken to a Vols game when I was in high school. I was amazed at how many people were there, the sea of orange, and of course “Rocky Top”. I know people here in Georgia and elsewhere (Bama especially!) hate that song with a passion.
If TN can win tomorrow, and if LSU beat Florida (which should happen), the Vols are back in the driver’s seat for the SEC East championship game. Of course, they’ll likely have to play LSU…yikes!

EYG –
I read Edith Schaeffer’s book, “The Hidden Art of Homemaking” – I still have it packed away in a book box – I remember one part of the book when Edith relates a story of someone coming to her door hungry at L’Abri, and the tray she made for them to eat on her front porch – If I remember correctly, it was a sandwich of cream cheese, walnuts, and maybe raisins – Edith wrote other books as well – Christianity is Jewish, I believe I have this one packed away too –
She reminds me of my mother, my mom used to feed strangers coming to our door hungry, she would make trays of food – Eggs, bacon, homemade bread, and jam and of course coffee –
EYG, such memories we never forget, but you mentioning this book sure brings back the warmth of my mother, and the joy of Edith Schaeffer’s book, I’m sure you will enjoy it -

Yes, the Vol navy is unique. I think Washington Sate is the only other school where you can boat to the game. Considering how horrendous the traffic is on game day, that IS the way to go.
I think tomorrow is do-or-die day for Tennessee. If they lose they’ll be lucky to make a bowl game. They still have Bama, S. Carolina, Arkansas, and Kentucky to play – none of which will be easy. I think Fulmer’s donation of $1M to the university may be the thing that saves his job this year.

I tried to make a comment at uncommondescent.com recently, which is an Intelligent Design website run by the liar Bill Dembski. I asked them one simple question: Why don’t you admit the Designer is God? Instead of answering my simple question, they censored my comment and banned me.
I give you this information because some people here support the idea of invoking Intelligent Design (also known as magic) and I thought they would be interested in knowing that Dembski, one of the inventers of Intelligent Design Magic, censors opposing views on his website. He did not want to answer the question “Why don’t you admit the Designer is God?” so he censored the question. This is more evidence Dembski and the other Discovery Institute fake scientists are dishonest and are trying to hide the fact their Intelligent Design Magic ideas are religious beliefs that have nothing to do with science.
