Mmmm … squirrel pancakes
To help deal with a gray squirrel overpopulation problem, a restaurant in England is serving up the critters in “Peking duck-style wraps.” Of course, stateside, squirrel is often used in that good ol’ fall staple, Brunswick stew, which a person quoted in this report referred to as “casseroled squirrel.”
So what does squirrel taste like? Well, according to one Brit, “I haven’t tried grey squirrel but people I know who have say it tastes like chicken used to taste when it tasted like chicken.”

Good one.
I’ve never eaten squirrel or any other rodent.
The “oddest” thing I have eaten is zebra.

It doesn’t taste like Coon Pie
Squirrel is more French tasting, quite delicate if you ask me and I prefer it in a nicely braised stew with Shepard’s Bread.

From experience, I can tell you that Squirrel tastes a lot better than Venison or Caribou.

You know, if they didn’t want to hunt and kill them, they could import some predators… like wildcats or owls.

I am reminded of a conversation with a missionary friend who would be spending a couple of days with us. I asked if he had any food allergies or preferences. His response: “Baboon’s okay, but I don’t particularly care for rat.”

Reminds me of that Southern Culture on the Skids song “Carve That Possum” (carve straight to the heart…).

Leviticus 11 kind a rules out the squirrel.
These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind, And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole.

I seem to recall that when we moved south, my mom and aunt were given squirrel to eat. Raised as farm girls in Ohio, nothing goes to waste. They made it into a stew and fed it to us. I seem to recall we marveled that it was the best stew we’d ever had. They didn’t tell us what that stew really was until years later.
