But there is sadness tonight as I learned of the recent death from “rapid lung cancer” of Western Swing legend HANK THOMPSON.
Seven decades of hit recordings. My two daughters love the song “Sell them chickens”:
Old slugger’s wall was headed for the wall
And it looked like a home-run rout
But the fielder’s glove went high above
And he caught it for the final out
On the Sporting page he was all the rage
When they asked him how he made that catch:
“Well I sold those chickens before they died
And the eggs before they hatched”
…
Now the moral here should be clear and its one I’d like to share
Just be yourself like nobody else
And you might become a millionaire
You’ll reply when they ask you why
How’d you make all that scratch
“I sold those chickens before they died and the eggs before they hatched”
When they wanna know how you made your dough
Just tell’em how to make a batch..
etc etc

A big ol’ back went a ballin’ a jack
And he ran on in to score
His coach recalled when he spiked the ball,
Said “Forget the old Cotton Patch! I wanna sell them chickens before they die and the eggs

OH OH! Poor Hillary had her staff find, quite specifically, a college student in Iowa and get her to ask Hillary a staff prepared question on global warming in a town hall meeting. The kid obliged but spilled the beans of the planted question to her college newspaper. Now Hillary is in deep doo doo again
Hillary’s staff claimed that, yes they planted the question, but said that it would never happen again since doing so is oh so wrong. They also said Hillary didn’t know about the planted question.
Hillary started her answer to the question from this college student specifically picked by her staff to ask this planted question. Paraphrased “I don’t find it unusual that even in Iowa, a college student would be concerned about global warming. I am hearing this from college students all over America”
Ok lets see if Hillary is lying about her not knowing about this planted question. You are going to take the risk of stupidly planting a question, so would you then not tell Hillary that this question was coming, who it was coming from and what she should say? Even lefty lawyers are taught that they should never ever ask a question that they do not already know the answer to – and Hillary is one.
When Hillary gets caught red handed, she still lies about it rather than coming clean. Told ya.
You got to love it.

First, CherylD, tell EYG we’re thinking of her and her family at this time. There’s a tough road ahead.
Llama, I am so happy to that I will be able to go through this election season with you! As you said: “Even lefty lawyers are taught that they should never ever ask a question that they do not already know the answer to – and Hillary is one.” I laughed outloud!! She knew and there is nothing anyone can say to make me believe otherwise. In any event, she is responsible for what her campaign does. Did she fire the people who did this “behind her back?” Probably not. Do the Clintons EVER tell the truth?

Cheryl, tell Evelyn that we have been praying for her and her sister.
Sawgunner: Stay safe, you’ll get to spend Thanksgiving at home.
I commented on Hank Thompson’s death a couple of days ago. I mentioned that we went to see him at Wolf Trap (near DC) a while back, and I thought I was going to lose my wife to him. He was a good (I wouldn’t say great.) singer, a great showman and (though not known for it) great guitar picker, in the Merle Travis style.
It appears we’re going to have a weird basketball season coming up. If Appalachian State beating Michigan was something in football, already:
Gardner-Webb 84, No 20 Kentucky 68.
Gardner-Webb is a small (4000) school down the mountain from here. A Baptist school near Shelby, NC.
Now,
UNC-Greensboro 83, Georgia Tech 74.
This isn’t supposed to happen.
These are supposed to be easy games before serious conference play.

But yesterday on the the Rocky Ride Ahead thread, I was attacked personally by name after my posts. I knew they would too because they have no self control, no shame and can never be satisfied. So today, I answered their attacks to prove my point once again that they can never be believed or trusted when it comes to your life or money.
So go to yesterdays thread and see my responses to a few of these lefties.

Anyone who questions what it will be like in America if the left wins the presidency and retains control of the house and senate only need to do a little historical research and see what it was like the last time this happened. It was 30 years ago and The President was Jimmy Carter. Iran was holding US citizens hostage for 444 days and the Surrender Monkeys wouldn’t do anything about it, gasoline was higher than it is today inflation adjusted, unemployment was 11%, interest rates were 20%, we were caught in economic stagflation and the country was on on the ropes teetering on the the edge of the abyss.
I rest my case based on historical fact but I am disappointed and shocked, shocked I say, that it only took 30 years for Americans to forget what Socialists do to you when they are in power and have complete control over the country.
It just shows you how poor Americans are in history, how forgetful Americans are and how ignorant and stupid they can be. I for one am not looking forward to it – not one little bit.
But thankfully, Praise God, I am much better prepared this time, and you are too. Better prepared to defend myself, my family, friends and religion today – when the left tries once again to steal all my money, make my friends miserable, destitute and spiritually broken, secularize, diminish, define down, and marginalize my country, culture, society and God, take away our liberty and freedoms and get us all killed in the end.
Yep, is it something to be thankful for but I suggest it wouldn’t hurt to ask God to provide you with the strength of character needed to succeed against all things horrible – with His gracious kindness and love. You won’t make it without Him.
Meditate on that.

Llama reminds me of Glenn Beck, who said that a vote for the Democrats is a vote for the terrorists. He also said that if Hillary Clinton wins that it’s the end of the United States. This is what passes for conservative thought these days. It’s based on fear – they’re trying to scare people into voting for them.
I am so gonna laugh at these people when the Democrats take over the White House!
The world didn’t end when Clinton was in the White House, and it didn’t end with Bush in there either.
People who claim it’s the end of the world because the other party wins are just being melodramatic in the extreme.

Anlir,
I will remind you that Republicans controlled the House and the Senate of the federal government when Clinton was President and that presidents have little if any power of note to do anything. Truman realized this quite famously. Power lies in the legislature where responsibility can be found but responsibility is a matter of character. Do you remember what Truman said about being President and what he was allowed by law to do? Not much. History is a great thing.
I also never said that a vote for the Democrats is a vote for terrorists nor did I say that if Hillary wins it is the end of the USA. This is totally false and a lie and you can not comprehend what is written because you assume things that are not there.
You lefties just have to learn to stop lying about the facts. It just gets you in trouble when others point them out and makes you look like the…..eerrr ….. liars you are.
I am also not trying to scare anyone. If anything, I am trying to remove all fear by pointing out what facts actually happened the last time the lefties were in complete control of the federal government and remind the sane people that we are better prepared this time to survive it – should the improbable happen.
I also know that we have 12 months to get the facts out, point out the lies by grilling the left on their many failures and weaknesses, remind people what socialists, socialism, isolationism, economic prosperity, freedom and liberty and military surrender means to them personally. I also know that the left has had horrible record this last year trying their best at running government, failing horribly. I also know it is quite likely they will really mess up the next year since they have a potent track record snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and not being able to do anything in government much less anything well.
I also know that the Lefty’s political candidate for president this time is likely to be much worse than the last real US traitor they ran 3 years ago and was so easily defeated once Americans had the facts, thought things through and made a wise choice.
This time will be much easier and I am completely convinced this is so. It is the left that is afraid of everything including their own shadows – mas well, they should be. Its pretty hard to see them except in shadows so it is best to look for them there
God can help you with this fibbing problem you have too. Ask and you shall receive
We are praying it will be Hillary and God does answer our prayers.

Planted questions and planted audiences are nothing new in US poltics. Karl Rove pioneered it and if imitation is flattery, the Republicans should be pleased.
llama,
much amused. Compare the US economy today and financial situation today to the EU and Canada. The US is under a load of debt, its currency is falling and it would fall further except for the refusal of the Chinese banks to liquidate their US assets, well paying manufacturing jobs are going off shore, people still lack basic health care and there is no money to replace an aging infrastructure since the US is rebuilind Iraq which they destroyed.
Meanwhile the EU has managed to absorb almost all of the east with little reprecussions. A million poles immigrated to the UK and noone noticed. The Irish have a lower unemployed rate than America and some Irish Americans are moving home. The Netherlands and Scandanavia not only have low debt and unemployment, they managaed to maintain the best social welfare net available.
In Canada, after 10 years of Liberal rule, the debt to GDP ratio is the lowest in the G7, the dollar is higher than the US dollar, the federal government has produced a surplus the last 12 years, and tax cuts have produced a lower corporate rate.
You can compare the present to the Carter era but at the time Amreica was doing better than the rest of the world absorbing OPEC oil shock and worldwide inflation. Today the economies of the world are in the middle of a 10-15 year period of sustained growth (the longest since the 50s) and America has been stuck in neutral while the rest of the First World passed them by.

That Canada sure is an economic powerhouse even if only half a cold, French pipsqueak iceberg. Nothing personal, but the USA sneezes once and your tiny iceberg melts in seconds. Our sneeze gives global warming new Canadian meaning.
You can can thank the USA for warming up your place too – with our global warming thing we have going on. We are are only thinking of you. Pretty soon it will be warm enough, long enough, where you can grow some of your own crops to feed yourself.
Don’t come here beret in hand when the next ice age comes though, we probably will be having a hard time ourselves taking care of our own socialists even if they are way less frozen than you and don’t speak French a lick. I’m sure you understand, we have to take care of our own wounded first, unless you come as an illegal alien of course.
Come to America as soon as you can before we are overrun with Mexicans and America loses it’s American thing, only America had. There won’t ever, no not ever, be a better time for Canadians to come into our welcoming and grateful arms, Canadian dollar in hand to buy great stuff cheap. With the Canadian dollar on fire you can finally afford it. After several hundred years of waiting – you certainly deserve a chance to come to the best place on earth and splurge for once – even if for a visit and you have to eventually go back to your frozen wasteland you call home.
Sadly, we Americans can’t come to Canada anymore, not that it was one of our most lusted after vacation spots in the first place with that Frenchy smelling, iceberg thing you got too much of.
We won’t be buying Canadian goods of any kind anymore either, except your oil of course, since the real dollar, the US kind, melted down. Hope you and Canada had not counted on being an exporter to the good old USA. Our stuff was always way better than yours and now it is much, much, heck, way much cheaper too. We have to save every penny we can now a days, so us splurging on Canadian stuff is out of the question. You remember what it was like for you all these years and we weren’t mad at you when you couldn’t afford to buy our stuff for 200 years. Once again, nothing personal.
You will have to sell your stuff in France or possibly to your buddies in Iran. With Antarctica melting like Canada, also thanks to us, who knows, there might be someone who will live there eventually and want to buy some of your well thought of, if expensive, winter wear. Until then, you can always dump it on the Russians. They love being dumped on by socialists – especially the nationalist kind like yourselves. Us Americans get that ego, pride in country thing you wear so well now that you are rich – even though we are poor. We used to be the best at it.
We will still let you come here to get well on our way more decent health care than what you can get at home – when you are really sick and need it. No waiting here – even for you rich guys from a frozen foreign country.
Now is the time for all Canadians to get really sick too, if they can, since our way better health care is now way, way, way cheaper than your pitiful socialist kind, by a country mile. Americans have a big heart for anyone sick and in need. You don’t even have to be a friend in need but it does help to be an illegal alien. Here is a hint. If you are sick don’t just come here to get well and pay for it yourself. Just slip across the border illegally and we will pay what ever it costs to get you well again and then pay to send you home too! How’s that for US hospitality?
But, if you are not sick and want to come here on holiday, bring a passport – we don’t trust people from little France, our old ally, like we used to. You know, before you started harboring Islamofascists that want Americans dead (probably you too), who refused to help us in need and became insane socialists of course. sadly, we are going a little left here lately too. So we really don’t blame you too much for your insanity. Socialism is a Sneaky Pete sickness that is difficult to spot before it is way too late to do much about it – and survive.
Our mental health care is the very best, way better than yours, just like always, and much more affordable for you now too – of course. But, even the best mental health care in the world can’t cure even a mild dose of socialism once it tales a firm hold like it did in Canada.
I would suggest electroshock treatments instead – somewhere near Niagara Falls. This shocking cure only lasts a few years but electricity is way cheaper here than in Frosty the Snow Man land.
I’m just funnin’ with ya really, no kidding, come on down and have a the best time of your life. We would enjoy having you to no end. You won’t regret it and we would be oh so pleased to have you all, all at once if necessary. No problem at all mates. How many can there be of you anyway? We need to do a test run before the next Ice Age comes anyway to make sure our Canadian rescue plan is in top notch shape.
Please bring a few Mounties with ya, we got plenty of floozies that love those ramrod red uniformed men on horseback and don’t forget that fine BC Bud you have every reason to be proud of and something even poor socialists in America can still afford even if they have to sell children to get it

At the rate Llama is going, he’s going to have a coronary by next November when a Democrat is elected to the White House and increase their majorities in the House and Senate.
If he’s calling people “traitors” and “liars” now, what will he resort to then?
Incivility only leads to more incivility, and eventually to violence.

Well. it looks like TJ won the college football contest again, since he only missed the TN vs AR game. So what happens to the BCS (which should be called “Badly Chosen Sham”) standings now? How can anyone but a computer have a one loss team higher rated than unbeaten Kansas, especially after the way KU handled the OSU team on OSU’s home turf?

I think Llama is being sarcastic in post 39. He should know that Canada does grow some food (wheat and fruits) as well as some livestock. As for things made in Canada, don’t the Big 3 American automakers all have plants in Canada?
If Llama wants to make a little cash, he could sell his wool to Canada for winter wear. After all, how much does someone in AZ need wool for warmth? Oh, I forgot. 60° feels cold down there.
Oh, and Llama, I grew up in Arizona and remember all the Canadian retirees spending the winter there. Don’t be too harsh on them as they spend their money in your state, propping up the economy. If you don’t watch out, they may decide to winter in Forida or Texas instead.

I have to stay away from Best Buy, which is like every guys dreamland!
They have the complete series for “Northern Exposure”, one of my all time favorite shows. I just drooled over it.

By the way, I’m watching “Arcade Fire” on “Austin City Limits” at the moment – awesome concert!

Wow, another puppy! They are so cute. Now I have two real dogs and two digital puppies. The digital ones are easier to take care of by a long shot.
BTW, I noticed that the movie “Bella” is going gangbusters at the box office. I guess that shows how starved everyone is for decent movies. I think we will go (we go to a movie about once every two years or so).

llama post 39,
but of course the market appears to consider the Canadian economy in better shape than the U.S. economy: the U.S. dollar is falling against the Canadian dollar.
The core of ther U.S. economy appears to be seriously ailing, and the last seven years seem to have seen an acelleration of this phenomenon.
Quite simply the following would not seem to be supportable:
1) a large trade deficit
2) the longterm movement of our employment away from actual production and into provision of services
3) the continuing acceleration of our personal expenditures in excess of our incomes
- noting that it is consumer spending which appears to have supported the economy during the last 7 years or so
4) the continuing consumption by perhaps 5% of the world population consuming perhaps 25% of the world’s resources
We would seem to be hurtling towards a brutal collision here and it would seem our leaders want it to finally happen on someone else’s watch.

You got it. It was tongue in cheek. Some lefties can’t tale a joke. The second half of my Canadian post went into WMB vapor somewhere. It was the really funny part where I told them to make sure to get real sick real quick, if they are going to get sick, right now – so they can come to America and to get well cheaply before they die waiting for their horrible socialist medicine to kill them while they wait for it.
I told them of they come across the border in the dead of night as an illegal alien we will cure them ‘Toot Suite’ for free and send them home at no cost to them. That’s what I call free Canadian Health Care!
In AZ we used to say if you see an out of state or out of country license plate in the winter time, remember it well, since you don’t ever want to live there. We used to get all kind of Canadian Snow birds in AZ 20 years ago, but it got too expensive for them and they stopped coming pretty much 15 years ago. Now with the dollar sliding in the abyss, we hope they come back and enjoy the Great American Desert – something as far away from icebergs as you can get. At least they speak English and we don’t don’t have to pay their socialist freight like we do the Mexicans.
You have to hand it to the Mexicans though. They have manages to transfer their entire; working economy, expensive government social welfare and education programs as well as their criminals and penitentiary system to the USA at no cost to them.

I will say it again, I am glad that Llama is here for the next election. I know I will check the blog everyday just for his take on things. I’ve been laughing outloud throughout this thread. We can always use a good laugh in election season!
One thing I did notice in Anlir’s post was this:
“The world didn’t end when Clinton was in the White House, AND IT DIDN’T END WITH BUSH IN THERE EITHER.” (emphasis added)
What an admission! And Anlir shouldn’t be SOOOO certain about a Democrat in the White House. Sure, it’s possible, but the Democratically-controlled Congress — elected last year to get things done, remember how you told us that would happen — well, a funny thing happened on the way to the White House: they now have a lower poll rating than President Bush. They haven’t done anything. I think the election is up in the air. I’m thinking, Anlir, don’t start counting those chickens.
(Canadians gave us hockey. That’s a good thing.)

I saw Joe Carter link to this study which found that that more than a third of former high-school American Football said they have had sexual relations with other men.
Even if true, which I suspect it is, that doesn’t mean that 1/3 of these football players are gay or bisexual. As I write in the following post: “I think they are better understood as heterosexuals who have partook in homosexual behavior.” There are probably more of them and they are certainly in the double digits of any given population, than there are “real” homosexual, who are probably about 3% of the population.

Cameron:
Thanks a lot. I went to watch football too. I came back and messed with it some more. I may have it. I’m not sure what I did. I may have clicked on “Choose another gravitar for the selected email or add another one“. I avoided that yesterday because I didn’t want another. Anyhow, I kept messing with it and got a statement that says: Gravatar creation complete! It says I have a gravitar in my account, whatever that means. I still don’t know how it gets to the blog.
We’ll see what happens.
I copied your email address in case I need help.
I still don’t know how you people found those in their database, but that isn’t what I wanted. It would be interesting to peruse it though.

I used to like Canadians until NJL said they gave us ice hockey. Our preacher preached on forgiveness today. I don’t know if I can handle that.
I see Lynn is back. I thought we were going to have the weekend free from supervision. This means we’re going to have to go back to being nice.
That means I can’t talk about football today.
I rated my Avitar “G”. I just hope the picture doesn’t scare the children. Maybe it should have been “PG”. Do we have young folks here? I have no indication that it will come up.

Today is Veteran’s Day
I forgot to put out my flag (until now).
In church this morning, they had all the veterans stand just before singing America (”My country ’tis of thee.) It’s an old custom, happens every year and you take it for granted. But it’s a useful and necessary thing. Kinda like asking the blessing before each meal; same words, same thing. But it needs to be done.

Again you amuse me llama
American oil companies were crying and whining in the Canadian business papers just recently. The Premier of Alberta decided to raise the royalty rates to 16% in two years. They threaten to take their rigs home and sulk for a while but when this was greeted with derision and laughter, they beg to be allowed to stay.
My dad still remembers when the Candian dollar was worth $1.25 US and merchants refused to accept US dollars. Of course that has little comparision to the days when it took US$4 to buy CD$1 in the early 1800s. I realize that for an old timer such as yourself math is fairly difficult but I would say for a large portion of the US dollar’s history its been a monetary midget. The last 40 years of US dollar superiourity are only an exception.
Shopping in the US for durable goods these days is quite difficult since your one and only retailler has decided Chinese goods are better than American made goods. In fact, now with the decline of the US dollar, I would think it easier to find US goods in Canada than in the US. Perhaps this will spark some guilt-ridden liberals from New England to shop in Canada.
Those New England tourists are always friendly remarking what a wonderful country we have and how they hate to go home. Some actually just stay. American immigration is up 42% since the 2004 election. Some came up to get married, adopt kids and stayed. Others have a conscious and refuse to kill for oil. Most of these immigrants are well educated professionals and our country thanks for providing us with their expertise free of charge.
We thank you for the high quality California produce you have sent us over the years. Its now cheaper than ever. Friends from Buffalo used to do their weekly grocery shopping in Canada since the produce was better and fresher than the California produce that is marked for domestic consumption. Not only was the produce better than Buffalo, but similar to Detroit and other border cities, the medicine is better and cheaper in Canada. Americans without insurance will frequently cross the bridge to give birth. At first it was a cheap attempt to gain citizenship and a health card but federal rules demand permanent residence for this.
We’ve been welcoming American refugees for the last 200 years but we don’t give out health cards this easy.
As for all those hardworking Mexicans taking up llama’s pasture, its Americans overruning them since the Mexican-American war. One of the first wars of empire.

Usually I spend Remembrance Day in school, but today I was free to take my daughter to the memorial. Since it was Sunday, a large group was gathered. Veterans led by the bagpipes came in along with present day soldiers and cadets. Quite the Canadian small town atmosphere.
Remembrance Day used to be a school holiday but since the students didn’t gather at the memorial as they were supposed to, the holiday was cancelled and the teachers have an assembly in the gym. We had an assembly in the gym on Friday. The school choir sang two spiritual/peace type songs one in Latin and the other was about “Christian” peace. The short Arab girl with the hajib in the front row was proudly filmed by her mother. An other Canadian moment. Islam has no musical tradition so I was surprised to see her there.

Chas, hockey is one of the few games I actually watch. At least they move, unlike golf or even baseball. Of course, I will never understand why they like curling so much.

Is that little black spot my avitar? Anyhow, it made the little blue man with a jumprope disappear, and it’s the best I’m ever going to look.

Curling — chess on ice, the only “sport” where the individuals can be out of shape and overweight and where the true cost of the sport is the endless rounds you must buy at pub.

Chas,
If it’s any consolation, I’ve never seen an image at gravatar. I just put “daffodil” or “turtle” into any search engine and right-click on whatever picture I like.
I have no idea why yours is so small, though.

you need to resize the gravitar to fit. My own, front cover of 1984, was much larger than the size allowed so I had to shrink it. Unfortunately, this led to an inability to read the TV screens in the cover esp. the phrase WAR IS PEACE

Thank you from EYG
I’ll have to post this again tomorrow. EYG is a real person! I had the privilege of meeting her in the flesh tonight, and she asked me to please give y’all a report.
The viewing was absolutely packed out, hundreds of people. The line was so long that instead of having everyone go through the line, they eventually opened the auditorium and let everyone in, and had the widow (EYG’s sister) speak to everyone and thank people.
She said, and EYG reiterated later, that this week she has seen the church in action–offering to mow the lawn, baby-sit the girls, loving them in real, practical ways. She said her dad was worried about her being “all alone” but after seeing her church, he knows she is not alone. EYG said to say that if every church can be as real and as loving as this church has been, the world would be changed. She said prayers have really held them up this week, that they’ve had supernatural strength on very little sleep.
Anyway, thank you for your prayers. I’m sure EYG will eventually give you some kind of report herself, but for now, thank you from her.

Thanks for the report, EYG. Your sharing it reminds me to pray again, as the need for peace, wisdom and strength will continue as the shock wears off and life returns to a new normal for EYG’s sister and her family. Thank God for all the churches who week after week repond to those around them in this fashion.
