NRLC to endorse Thompson
According to reports, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson will pick up on Tuesday the endorsement of the National Right to Life Committee. Jonathan Martin over at Politico reports that “some rivals and neutral observers are already puzzled at the decision. One supporter of another Republican hopeful called the move ‘a typical Washington insider deal.’” Will this surprise announcement be enough to revive the flagging Thompson campaign?

No, I don’t think it will. Fred Thompson is pretty much dead in the water, IMO. This was a huge miscalculation by NRLC.

The problem, besides Fred’s late entry, and laid-back demeanor, is that the huge block, to which abortion is theissue, dilly-dallyed around with liberal Huckabee, and even actively tried to portay Fred as not truly being pro-life.
They should have looked at the total package, rather than be infatuated by someone who denounces what we hate most with a smooth tongue, but has no conservative philosophy.
There was a point when Thompson was nipping at Giuliani’s heels. That is when the endorsements should have came out.
They waited too long, and now they’re stuck with Giuliani. In fact, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if this was a case where they did this “in retalliation” of Robertson’s endorsing Rudy.
I think it’s too late to change things much, but we’ll see.

Abortion is THE issue to a very small number of people, actually.
And how exactly is Huckabee “liberal”?
This post is proof that many of these so-called evangelicals couldn’t care less about the issue. All they care about is power.

I know I just read somewhere that abortion is more of an issue than the mainstream media wants us to believe, I just don’t remember where it was on the net, but I’ll say Fox or the Portland Press Herald.
So, on the one hand we have “so-called evangelicals” caring only about power and on the other — dare I say it — Hillary Clinton caring only about power. Now, there’s a choice.

That’s why I’m for Obama.

Wait, Huckabee is disqualified from being endorsed by a pro-life lobby because he’s not a fiscal conservative? Mr_Meaner, that seems very poor logic indeed.
Report comment to moderator
No poor logic would be a conservative endorsing a flaming liberal because he is pro-life.

By that standard, there has been no more liberal president in history than George Bush.
You see actually, liberals can be quite fiscally responsible. Despite our reputation for taxing and spending the largest accumulations of debt in American history have all occurred under Republican presidents.
But it does give lie to the notion that abortion is the issue evangelicals care about. They’d rather have a candidate they think is right on issues like taxes and the war and are willing to water down support for their abortion position. That’s pretty darn telling. One might say damning.

Ah, thanks for that correction. I agree that would be poor logic indeed (though I don’t think Huckabee constitutes a “flaming liberal”).

You said a mouthful there, my friend.

Not so much.
We have been promised by the alleged “baby killers” running on our side that they will do the only thing that pro-lifers (who respect the constitution)should care about. And that is nominate strict constructionists to the SCOTUS.
The only SCOTUS justices anxious to retire are the lefties.
It’s going to be pretty funny when, after all of this screeching, Roe V Wade will be overturned under Giuliani.
If we could just take out that hobbit RP, it would be in the bag.

Poor Huckabee! The guy can’t seem to get a break. Here is a guy who’s always been anti-choice, yet he can’t get the endorsement of the NRLC. Yet, Fred, who did represent a pro-choice group and is “states rights” on the issue is apparently going to get the nod.
Yet again, it looks like it’s politics over principle.

No one for President.

Anlir,
Fred’s representation of a pro choice group consisted of his moving a folder (containing the work done by someone else in the huge firm he was a part of) from the inbox to the outbox on his desk.
He has voted pro-life 100% of the time that any vote relating to the issue came up.
“and is “states rights” on the issue is apparently going to get the nod.”
Well, that makes sense, since that is the only constitutional way to limit or outlaw abortion.
This position is as pro-life as current law allows.

Interesting, Make it Man. I wonder if the pro-choice group is aware that Thompson didn’t really do the job they hired him for. He merely moved a file folder. Sounds like grounds for a suit for inadequate representation and deceptive lawyering.

Dude,
I wouldn’t say anything..but this is like the 10th time you’ve called me Make It Man.
It doesn’t bother me, but I don’t know if MIM wants to be associated with a lot of what I say.
(just saying)
They hired the firm he was employed by…not him.
Unless you’re calling him a liar, because that is what he has repeatedly said.

So sorry Mr. Meaner – you’ll have to forgive me. I’m hopped up on Nyquil at the moment
I didn’t mean to call you MIM. Please don’t be insulted – it’s an honest mistake.

It’s too bad Alan Keyes gets little, if any, media coverage. I have not heard anyone speak as passionately on behalf of the unborn as Dr. Keyes. As of Nov. 12, 2007, Alabama, California, Florida, New Hampshire, Georgia, West Virginia and Utah will have Alan Keyes on the ballot for the Presidential primary. I count myself “lucky” to be a Georgian.

No problem.
MIM seems like a nice guy.
I just wouldn’t want to sully your opinion of him by something I might say.
Not that I’m in the habit of….
I can’t even finish that sentence.

I’m not sure what the appeal is with Fred. All the charisma of a valium pill. Nice guy though. And he must have something goin’ on to land a gal like Jeri.
Ea one of you regulars here could I’m sure meet with and convince a young woman to carry her baby to term. You could offer a spare bedroom, baby wipes, diapers etc. YOU really could fight abortion all by yourself. YOU really could band together with likeminded folks and decrease the slaughter of innocent unborn.
None of you regulars here could fight and defeat or neutralize fanatic fighters from the “irreconcilable wing” of Islam fundamentalism. You might be able to witness to one muslim but by yourself or banded together you could not defeat the terrorists of jihadistan, that great borderless entity whose citizens now live throughout the world.
Defeat of the jihadis requires a military and a president who can fund and direct their operations.
The preceding argument is the one advanced by many proLifers who have decided to go with DragQueen Giuliani.
