Barbara Walters says this year’s White House Christmas card is the most religious in her memory. I think what she meant to say, however, is that it is the most Christian card in her memory. After all, atheists and Muslims can be religious in how they hold to their beliefs, but I’m quite sure their Christmas cards would not cite Nehemiah 9:6 (”You alone are the LORD.” …).
As compared to the politically correct cards the Clintons produced during their tenure, however, I’d have to agree that this year’s card is highly Christian. But it’s not so different from cards the Bushes have created in the past. So on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being classified as “highly Christian,” I’d give this card an eight. How would you rank it?

Is this the silliest blog post worldmagblog has ever posted?

Did anyone read some of the comments? They need Lynn and her scepter really bad.

What a shock! Christians believe Jesus is God and the Creator of the universe! Christians believe we should enjoy the world around us! I’m not sure which is most shocking. I will have to think about it.

I’ll play along. I give it a 7.
And I give this post a 5 in silliness. No, RN, it’s not the silliest post ever on WMB.

While the quote from the Bushes, “May the joy of all creation fill your heart this blessed season,” may be read in a couple of ways. I don’t think it should be offensive in any way. It must be hard to celebrate a Christian holiday as a Christian and yet find something generic enough to not offend anyone. What a challenge! One that would no doubt amazed the founders of this nation. Jon Rowe, don’t bother.

I think what Barbara Walters meant to say was, “Hey, I got a Christmas card from the President.” Shameless name dropping:)

I get many different kinds of Christmas cards; some very religious, and some not religious at all. None of them offend me. I simply smile inside with gratitude for the connections in my life that made someone include me in their well wishes.
Gratitude is one of the first steps on the road to happiness.

I, for one:
1) Don’t think this post is silly – we have to talk about something, after all.
2) Agree 100% with Pastor Joel. Give the overworked offensive meter a break for a while.
3) Congratulate BaBa WaWa for getting a Presidential Christmas card.
4) Wonder exactly what is the “joy of all creation?” It reminds me of other nebulous, non-things like Mother Earth and Father Time.

Remember that it is largely the leftist secular media that is keeping faith up front and center while reporting on the Republicans. They want to frame our faith in the people’s minds to make it a wedge issue.
Did Senator Obama ever get grilled much for conveying his sense of mission to be “an instrument of God?” Addressing an evangelical church in South Carolina on October 7, 2007, Obama added, “I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth.”
Was this Democrat candidate ever called a threat to the U.S. Constitution? Has anyone accused him of being more of a theocrat than a Democrat?
Not to my knowledge. It seemed to me that he pretty much got a free ride–a ride that a Republican would have paid dearly for without end.

Nice card, definitely religious, not definitely Christian. If it were sent out at any other time of year, and one did not know the religion of the person who sent it, I think it would be uncertain whether there was anything “Christian” about it.
I like humorous cards myself. But I suppose that wouldn’t go over well for an official card from the POTUS.

“The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.”Romans 8:19 All of creation waits to be made new and sinless according to the bible. While the card sentiment is innocuous for anyone, Christians can certainly read the joy of all creation as being centered in Christ. At the same time, it is not something that everyone would naturally think of. Much of what Christ says in the NT is related to things that those who knew the OT would know. Some grasped that and many did not. If the Clintons had written this, it would not be an issue most likely.

I really like the art work on the cover, though the image on that site was a bit blurred.

KI, So what are you saying is the “joy of all creation?” Based on your quote from Romans, I would take it to be all believers (”sons [plural] of God to be revealed). If so, then the card doesn’t make sense. I also don’t see the transition from that verse to “all of creation waits to be made new and sinless.” BTW, I am a Bible-believing Christian, so I am not doubting or mocking your comments, just trying to follow them. blessings.

JM,
They blurred it out so people wouldn’t be offended by the content.
Kidding, of course.

I tried reading a few of the latest and earliest of the 650 or so comments on that site. What sad, sad little people those posters must be, pouring vitriol and hatred into every word. I think they all should be forced to watch every version of Dicken’s Christmas Carol ever produced, maybe then they’ll learn a little about kindness and charity.
If that doesn’t do it, they should have to watch all the Lifetime made-for-tv Christmas

whoops, I left off the last word: movies
Lynn: when’s that preview window coming?

Well, this is OBVIOUSLY just an evil attempt by Bush to force everybody in America to go out and blow up abortion clinics.
The only cards allowed by the White House should say “Happy non-specific winter holiday and/or solstice”

It is much ado about a small thing. If that’s what the Bush’s want to send, it’s their choice. It wouldn’t be what I would choose, but everyone has their own idea of what’s a nice card. There’s no accounting for taste when it comes to greeting cards, that’s for sure. I’ve seen some pretty awful ones.

Happy ChanuKwanzaRamadanMas.
Ne. 9:6 is not “super-Christian”. A Jew could quote it – no problem. It’s in the Old Testament.
“Super-Christian” would be quoting 2Cor. 5:20 or something like that.
As an aside, I went to look up Ne. 9:6 to make sure that “Ne.” was the correct abbreviation, but I accidentally went to Ne. 5:6, which I doubt the president would want to quote, considering the lack of fiscal conservatism we’ve seen in the last 7 years.

Amen, TRR.
Have you seen what this administration has spent on document shredding?? Six times what was spent in 2000.
As for the card: It’s a yawner; in no way is it offensive. Way too religious for anyone I know, but considering it was paid for by the Republican National Committee, it seems about right. They’ve lost the fiscal conservatives. They are desperate to hang on the the evangelicals, and this is enough to accomplish that.
