Lost in the snow, a father relies on his faith
A man lost in the snow with his three kids says he relied on his faith and stayed strong for his children’s sake, the Associated Press reports.
Frederick Dominguez and the children, who vanished while looking for a Christmas tree, were rescued Wednesday by a helicopter from a snowy ravine, just as another storm was bearing down in the foothill region about 100 miles north of Sacramento.
“You just want your kids to be safe and you’re just praying, `God, keep my kids alive,’” Dominguez told reporters . . .
Dominguez described three harrowing nights in the wild as he tried to keep his children from panicking and succumbing to the numbing cold. [His son] Joshua needed constant reassurance. “I said, `Son, I would tell you what I bought you for Christmas if I thought we weren’t going to make it,’” Dominguez recalled. “My kids were relying on me, and I’m scared, but you can’t tell them you’re scared.”
The family told reporters they used humor and songs from church to lift their spirits.

And, of course, praise the Lord!

Church songs can indeed be a huge lift when needed.
BTW, there are few states in the union that get more snow than California.

The MSM only reluctantly pointed out that the mom and dad are divorced.
When I learned that he was a divorced Dad I had nightmare visions of this stupid act being intentional as a way of ending both his and the childrens’ lives.
Memorandum to Dominguez: there’s a lot to be said for getting a tree from a lot, nucklehead!

Yes, they are divorced and yes, they love their children and hopefully they all have real relationships with the Lord. Getting a wild tree with the kids is an excellent way to spend time together. It is recommended you know the area but sounds like they went prepared, handled the situation well, nobody dead or injured. Wonderful ending. May they continue to seek to honor God with their lives. And thanks to God for His presence with them and giving wisdom to the searchers. I, too, had a momentary thought of this being a retaliatory thing, glad it wasn’t.

I’m usually annoyed at how intrusive the media gets, but it was wonderful to watch the mother as she received the phone call that they had been found alive and well.
I knew from the first report I heard that the mother’s last name was different than the father’s and children’s, but it never occurred to me that it might be retaliation for divorce. Perhaps because the mother never acted as if she thought that was a possibility.

I didn’t think of retaliation, but it’s sad that some did.
Here was a man who was just trying to do something nice with his kids, make some nice memories, and in a way, that’s what he got, though I think he would have preferred the Currier and Ives version. I heard he’s buying a fake tree now.

NJLawyer,
I hope not. The outdoor experience is family wonderful. My thought of retaliation probably drifted in from not only my own selfish motives that infiltrate my life but because of news story after news story of people inflicting pain on those they once “loved”.

My dad always said that a “brave” man is the guy who would last a few moments longer than you when the sh**-storm hits. People who aren’t scared of anything are not brave, they are crazy.
As a 7 Purple Heart combat veteran, I believed him.

Agreed NJL, how jaded we’ve become to automatically think of what’s sadly has become the typical headline. This Dad did well.
If you’ve never chased a tree, it’s a wonderful time of family togetherness—braving the cold, drinking cocoa and participating in the hunt with extreme prejudice for your chosen tree. I’ve not seen many people on such outings in the selected cutting areas not having a good time. It’s sorta like a WalMart of trees (cause they’re cheap) with all sorts of families and mechanisms to cut/haul a soon to be dead tree that will give it’s last for the happiness of that family and which is immortalized in their photos.

Lots of people take their kids to cut down a Christmas tree –
We don’t know why this happened, why the LORD allowed this father and his sons to go through this trial, but we can KNOW THIS……God had and has a plan, which isn’t always revealed. Who knows how this has all ‘played out’ with this family, OR what future plans, God has for this to remind them all what happened in 2007, looking for a Christmas tree. God works in mysterious ways –
Merry CHRISTMAS!
