I know this isn’t the answer, but it sure reminded me of a Veggie Tales “Silly Song” about a hairbrush. I just love VT – I see they have a “Pirates” movie coming out soon.

Movie quote; I have no idea, but I can’t wait to find out. I’m going to google, but I won’t tell.
Report comment to moderator
Since the reference is probably to a small tree stand, sometimes called the brush, and not a piece of grooming equipment, my guess is that the movie is about some nature lover, or a Tarzan-esque feature. But I could be wrong.

So I was catching up on my print edition of World Magzine last night, reading the article about Wanda Kohn, the Daniel of the Year, when I came across this sentence, eleven paragraphs in:
“That pro-life center is one of thousands throughout the country with low-paid directors and unpaid volunteer counselors: Those directors and volunteers are WORLD’S Daniels of the Year for 2007.”
Excuse me, but are you talking about me? Do you mean other posters around here, as well as StuBob’s wife?
I was pretty taken aback (though, I did note Wanda’s haircolor is similar to mine–after a mistake at the hairdressers–and I probably could photo shop in my own picture . . . ), but if this is true, I thank you.
And if this is my acceptance speech, I do have several things to say.
There is joy in doing service to the King, and I serve the kingdom of God in this ministry with humility and awe. The pleasure, folks, is mine–and that of my volunteering peers. To be used by God to set the captives free from sin and guilt; to speak words of encouragement to men and women in crisis situations; to provide physical, spiritual and emotional help–is an honor.
Twenty-one years of association with PCC volunteers has taught me a great deal about how to communicate, how to listen, and how to comfort. I’ve learned about faith and trusting the Holy Spirit speaks in unusual ways. But I’ve also been on the receiving end of mercy from these same people, and I, personally, am immensely grateful for this ministry.
I spent ten minutes on Tuesday’s hotline consoling a woman who needs to confront a young man pushing his girlfriend for abortion. She started in tears: “This sucks.”
By the end, she knew what to say, what to do, but still fretted over the young man’s future if he says no to this pregnancy. I reminded her the Chinese character for crisis is the same one for opportunity. We don’t know what God is doing in another person’s life and we don’t know what effect our words and prayers will have on another.
But what looks like a crisis today, could be the turning point for that young man, if he accepts the challenge. She was heartened by the Holy Spirit’s words.
Mary’s situation could have been considered a crisis pregnancy–and yet the result of that pregnancy changed the world, history, the universe, forever. Thanks be to God.
Everyday, there is joy in serving the King.

I thought EYG might get a kick out of this: While talking to a very nice man about a job, I was getting Chloe ready to go play with a friend, packed for a night with her dad, and myself ready to leave. Suddenly I realized I had locked my keys in my house. I looked in the back window and they were right there on the kitchen table. I found out how easy it is to break in my house and send Chloe through the window to get the keys and come out the front door. Erma Bombeck where are you to write the really good stuff for us now. Can you imagine the perspective she would have on our lives now????

This senate report that was issued today (the complete report isn’t even posted yet), looks to be a very good compilation of information on why there is no consensus on global warming. It’s amazing what the IPCC/UN has been able to get away with until recently. Get the U.S. out of the U.N.!

I’m glad someone else guessed the quote first. I probably would have thought painter/artist and guessed something like “Pollock” or “Lust for Life.” Or, maybe I would have thought it to be a quote from someone like Peter Singer.

It does not exactly “provide a meaning” for living, but I think that sociobiology does provide clues to much of human behavior. As we are such complex creatures (either as God’s creatures or as evolved beings), we feel and demonstrate strong feelings about “our children” whether we are actually genetically related or think of ourselves as related.
Both the story RDEAN linked to and my experience this morning with taking my granddaughter to her preschool this morning relate to this point.
Whether the young man who “found” his birth mom as a co-worked is really genetically related to her (and I assume it’s true)or not, she and he are experiencing the connection of parent and child.
Whether or not my granddaughter and I are genetically related (and we are not), we are experiencing the connection of grandparent and grandchild. Before we left for the preschool she browsed through a photograph album and looked at pictures of her Mommy when she was pregnant and then looked at pictures of herself as an infant, sometimes saying “I” and sometimes saying “she” as she contemplated herself as a baby.
My daughter told me that RG has been having difficulties at pre-school the last couple of days, hitting other children and otherwise misbehaving. The Mommmies’ theory is that she is not getting enough sleep. (She has stopped taking naps at pre-school.) They are encouraging her to get to bed earlier.
She seemed in a good mood this morning, skipping on her way to the school.

CHRONICLES OF CYBERIA #11F
Dreary Wheel Full Employment (this chapter finally drags to a close–be afraid–there’s more Cyberia, but I will get it in by the end of the year.)
Though it will probably take a while, especially as the manufacturing priorities of the DrearyWheel system are busywork rather than busy busy workers, eventually everyone who possibly wants a free bicycle in Cyberia will have one or two or three. What then?
The plan is to start shipping DrearyWheel bicycles to other countries. The Cyberians think they’ll probably start with China and India. It’s time for them to be undercut. For their own good. Kind of the kindest cut.

Don’t little boys play cowboys and indians anymore? My youngest son turns five soon, and we held a party for him last week. The two weeks prior to his party, I searched all the stores in 3 surrounding cities for some sort of cowboy thing to put on his cake (he loves cowboys and says he wants to be a bull-rider when he grows up!) I went in every store you would imagine. A whole bunch of junk, but nothing to do with cowboys, etc. I finally found something in a tractor supply store. I think it’s a sad thing when little boys don’t play cowboys and indians anymore!!
Have a blessed Christmas!

I assume boys do still play at being cowboys and at being Indians (which may or may not involve cowboys fighting Indians), since our Wal-Mart carries both cowboy and Indian items this time of year. Not a lot, but they have cowboy hats and Indian bow and “arrows” (with suction cups instead of points).
Stuff to put on top of cakes is another matter. My impression is that boys are less likely to care what’s on top of the cake (unless they particularly love SpongeBob or some other cartoon character) than what’s under the candles, and of course what’s inside the wrapping paper. The cake topper stuff tends to be aimed more at girls from what I’ve seen.

Well, things are winding down at the office. I think at least half of the employees are taking tomorrow off, and we’re closed on Monday and Tuesday. Next week it will be a ghost town around the office. A lot of people are using up their vacation days before the end of the year.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m avoiding the kitchen at work because it’s covered in food, candy, and every edible item imaginable. We get so much stuff sent to us, it’s ridiculous. Plus people have been bringing in food from home all week. If I have to look at another cheese ball, sausage ball, or cookie tray I think I’m gonna hurl. I’m ready for it to be over.
Next Wednesday, I’m tearing down all the Christmas decorations and the tree. It’s been up nearly a month now, so it’s time to go.
Really, I’m in a good mood still. This Saturday night is the big party, and then Tuesday will be a quiet day. Gonna see a movie this weekend – lots of choices. Gotta go to the grocery store tonight for the last time. I’m sure it will be crazy!

Condolensces! I have been doing too many locking-keys-out type things lately.
Today’s clumsy spectacular was a first. Somehow, I punched a hole through the bottom of a styrofoam cup full of Raspberry Spiced Tea, and made a huge mess in a restaurant/gift shop. It took me a good while to realize what had happened.
The girls who worked there were so sweet. One cleaned up the mess, the other got me a new cup of tea. They were more concerned about my feelings than the mess.
Do I happen to know this nice man you were speaking to at the time?

Yes, I have had a fried turkey before and it was delicious! It can be dangerous to cook if you aren’t careful or don’t know what you’re doing.
While I haven’t punched a hole in my cup, I have on a few occasions, accidentally dumped my to-go drink over at the register before. I was mortified of course. They took it in stride.

Kim,
I have done the locked-out thing too. It happened twice at the car wash. Once was my fault and the other time was their fault. That’s why I now keep spares of the keys to my house, the truck, and the office. All have come in handy on more than one occasion.

Fried turkey is delicious. My son-in-law has prepared it a few times, since we bought him a cooker for it. I was mored than dismayed when he did it one year on our wooden deck and the grease over-ran the pot. He wasn’t repentant enough, either.
As far as cowboys and Indians, as friend of ours reminds us that when his ancestors came by ship his other ancestors were here to wave to them. I would imagine their are a lot of Indian/Caucasians who can identify. Or Native American/Caucasian. He prefers Indian and thinks the whole PC is silly. He doesn’t mind being an Elder, though and getting the perks that go with it.
As a little girl my mom made each of my brothers wonderful coonskin caps. As an after thought she made me an Indian head dress with a feather. I was not happy, but what could I do? That fur (from a muskrat my dad caught, I’m sure) was sure cool. Cowboys and Indians was a great pastime for us, until Tarzan came along. I never did get brave enough to drop out of the tree on the rope and wheel my brothers rigged up.

KI,
Vision Forum has real coonskin caps, or at least they used to; they probably still do. The cap is rabbit fur, with a coon tail. The fur color of the cap varies (some have white in them, which I didn’t particularly like). A few years ago I got them for my nephews for Christmas, and got myself one too.
I love real fur, and I have a collection of stuffed coons (not real). One of the coons wears the cap. Last year I wore it to an annual spring party one lady in our church hosts where we’re supposed to wear a hat. I’m not a hat person, and don’t own any. I won the “most creative hat” award, as I expected I would. (But I felt a little silly anyway.)
Actually, a number of years ago I was counseling at a camp that had “hat day” on Fridays. You were supposed to make your own hat. Of course it was really for the kids, but some of the counselors got incvolved too, and I went prepared. I took a raccoon puppet (flat body because it was a puppet) and a belt, and I fastened the belt around my chin and had an instant coonskin cap.

No. I Haven’t gotten the pickup yet. I may have to get a loan. I’ve got a few other things to take care of also.
I might as well admit defeat and figure I’m in the doghouse. I haven’t gotten my sweetie anything at all. She wants clothes. We’ve been over that scenario a million times. If she can’t find something that fits, is the right color and style, goes with something she has, and is the right price, how am I supposed to find it?!! Despite all that, I went shopping with her this evening and found the perfect angel tree topper for her best friend, and she tried on a few things, but didn’t come home with anything. I have officially begun Christmas shopping–and there were no crowds. I try to patronize local independent merchants and find better service and reasonable prices in general. I went to the basement skateboard shop across the draw bridge and had the owner hand-build my son a very nice board. I’ve been there before. It was just the two of us after I let a grumpy lady and her two teen sons interrupt my sale just to get them out of there, and we talked a while about kids and parents and vintage skateboards. He had a funny story about this dad who came in and had looked at all the boards and decided on one. He took it off the shelf and it came with an instructional DVD. The sale was off when the dad noticed there was a cute little red cartoon character with devil horns on the DVD package. I explained about this blog. We laughed about how different people can be. This new skateboard has a red and white design on the bottom of the deck, and green around the top edge where the sandpaper grippy tape doesn’t cover. Very Christmasy. Son will love it.
I walked up to the auto parts store where I know the owner. It was quiet in there. People are not working on their cars this week, he said. My wife is going to be thrilled with her new Rain-X wiper blades! She better be. Three blades were almost $60!! Very romantic
I picked up Gymnastics Barbie at the toy store for my son. He wants to give it to his sister on Christmas. She will be thrilled! I’m not a Barbie fan, and swore I would never… but, what the heck. He wants to gift it, and she will love it.
I still have my wife’s spa trip to arrange, but I can do that over the phone. Looks like I’m ready for Christmas! Now if I can just get through Winter Solstice! I need firewood and dancing nymphs!!
Tomorrow night the kids are going to Grandma and Grandpa’s for the night and wife and I will go to dinner and see a movie. “Into The Wild” I think. We’ve been wanting to see it. If you have written a review, I missed it.

I thought you might enjoy the silent debate. They do better than I would left to stare into a camera. There is a whole series with different candidates. If you google Silent Debates you will find them. Here is Biden and Thompson with Anderson Cooper silently moderating. These may be more enlightening than having the candidates speak. Seriously!
Have you thought of buying your wife new wiper blades? It shows you take her safety seriously. It also shows that you know very well that you cannot pick out clothes for her that she is willing to wear. I fully sympathize. One other thing I have to find is a pair of “fuzzy fish jammies” for my daughter to give my wife. That’s what I get for asking the kids what they want to gift. I’m learning. “Here kid! Give your mommy this lace teddy. I will–err–she will love it!” Where in the world will I find fuzzy fish jammies? I bet they are in a mall and I don’t like malls. Sacrifice, I know….

Sounds like tomorrow night is a “date” for you and your wife.

I love The Office. I haven’t seen the British version. I didn’t know there was such a thing. My wife buys various shows in seasons for her ipod. She watches them while she exercises at the gym. I’m not a tv watcher, but I enjoyed it a lot. Dwight is the bomb! What a well developed character!
Yes, I have a hot date. I love dates with my wife. Wish I had more of them! I do know what the movie is about. We both want to see it before it goes to video, and it’s playing at a small theater nearby. I also want to see Golden Compass. Tough call.

Oxymoron alert!
“there are positive signs as well – for instance, the success that former Vice President Al Gore has had in raising awareness about what he calls the climate crisis”
So. Are the global warming alarmists scientists or priests? There IS no consensus on the issue of global warming OR anthropogenic global warming. See the report I link above. It seems to me that Alan Boyle himself can’t make proper distinction between science and religion, science and politics, science and coercion, and science and rhetoric.
“I don’t understand why Gore doesn’t run for president,” Druyan said. “I really feel that he would be one candidate who probably the majority of the people in the country would embrace.”
She’s clearly delusional.
Courting religious believers and establishing the Baptist Church as the Federal church are two very different things. Druyan can shut up about that comparison. If she cares about the constitution she should vote for Ron Paul. NO federal funding for stem cell research of ANY KIND. It’s unconstitutional.
Alas, in order to get the government back to the constitution would probably be like making an apple pie from scratch (sans creating the universe!).
