Hey Winsome, thanks for putting the links for RDEAN. I am sure they can also be of resourceful help for us who'd like extra stuff for research / bible study. See, I cannot remember the reference, but I am reminded of a scripture that says those who truly believe will continue to think of spiritual things. Yeah, Yeah, I am sure that RDEAN does, otherwise why would he post on WoW??

re: post #9
If you do not have a Bible, RDEAN, you may find it helpful when you are reading this blog to go to a website that has quick search tools for Scripture, such as www.bible.com
Another good one can be found on the bookstore website: www.theservantsbookstore.com
The link is on the left hand side of the Home page: "Bible Search Tools" under the heading, "Spiritual Helps."

"If Christains are not Jews, then why do Christians quote so much what “God” did for the Jews. Didn’t he do anything for the Christians?"

Regardless of which covenant one is under, in a general sense, God deals with His covenant people in consistent ways.

It would seem that VS has stated the implied meaning of the original post in response #3. She has quoted a very biblical concept, in that: "Bad company corrupts good morals." I can remember my youth in the early 70's when relatives from both sides would come to our house for the holidays. I usually spent more time with those from my Mom's side. It was a lot of fun when my mom's sister and her brother (Andree's dad.....and still my fave uncle) would bring their samples of condensed-milk fudge, and my sibs and I would be the lucky, sweet-toothed judges. But I am fortunate to remember good family influences.
The apostle Peter, at the time of his experience with Jesus, was simply a young follower of Christ. He really learned his lesson of being strong in the faith later in life....at a time when he was persecuted for it. I reckon the point of the essay is to challenge us to make a strong, christian stand for our faith and for what is right.....even through the transition of the calendar.

Though this would challenge your juvenile Neo- Darwinian pieties, you ought to understand that serious Christians accept that Cod chose the Jewish people for his Revelation and that Jesus Christ came not to abrogate but to fulfill the Jewish Law.

#6: I can find absolutely no reference whatever to Jews anywhere in this post

"post-exile Israelites"

----Those aren't Jews????

Be careful, because the tendency will be for them to change you, and not for you to change them (Deut.7:1-4)

----Change who? Who is being talked about?

In Michael Holley's book about the N.E. Patriots, he remarks about how Scott Pioli, head of player personnel, almost didn't hire Anthony Pleasant, a black player from the deep South who went to Tennessee State, a black college. Pleasant had good physical skills but had a deep southern accent and seemed not too bright with no sign of leadership quality.

When Pleasant became a Patriot, he remarked to the black players as follows: Do you hear the white guys calling themselves 'honkies'? No. So why do we call each other 'niggas'? When are we going to grow up? There ain't nothing positive about that word at all. From now on we ain't going to use that word no more. Pleasant got immediate results and by so doing helped both players and the team. He was, also, a superb athlete and Patriots team player.

Pleasant conspicuously read the Bible and discussed religion when he got a chance on a bus or plane and was instrumental in converting Pioli, a hard edged Eastern secularist to evangelical religion.

Like Andree, I often fail in standing up for the faith in the face of living in a withering secular society, though there are Christians with backbone, like Pleasant, who give us distinct inspiration.

John M, from the first paragraph,

"Christmas is past but there’s still New Years day, with relatives from the other side of the family. And you know how you get when you’re with your mother. It’s as if the last 20 years never happened — your conversion, your marriage, motherhood, sanctification, are all a parenthesis, and you become twelve again. Even your accent reverts."

I guess I'm not really seeing where she's talking about family instead of friends. Maybe you all know more about Andree's backstory than I do.

Rdean, in all candor, I can find absolutely no reference whatever to Jews anywhere in this post. Have you had enough caffeine today?
