Rants! & Raves! 1.4
Just four days into the new year, how many Rants! could we have? Okay, probably a few…therefore I give you the first Rants! & Raves! of 2008.
[Closes eyes; holds breath....] In a daring experiment, I will post today’s edition without a review of the rules…

Rave: Yesterday God gave me several gifts, which would not be understood by others. He even surprised me with a free meal last night in a restaurant. When my husband went to pay, we were informed by the host that the restaurant owner said the tab was on him. We are acquaintances with the owners, but not close friends, so it was quite a surprise. It just tickled me.
Rant: The furnace is on the fritz in my daughter’s townhouse that they bought only a couple of months ago. They did have an inspector before they bought. This looks to cost them several hundred dollars. An unpleasant lesson for them and as a parent that is always not fun to see.

Rave: After several years, I have finally found a good doctor again.

Rant: My cat has decided that my office chair is hers. I have to shove her out every time I want to use the computer.
Rave: She’s doesn’t sit on my keyboard and change my settings as much. Plus she has gotten all fat and fluffy with the cold weather and is nice to pet.

Rant: Callie (the kitten in my avatar) wants her wet food at 6:30 and I could have slept later.
Rave: She did sleep under the covers last night and kept my feet warm. Still very cold here.

Rant: Those who keep saying that Hillary is finished after her Iowa rejection.
Other than the fact that it is still way early, she is a senator. She will be in government just forever. Like Ted Kennedy.

Sure it still gets wild and woolly sometimes, but compared to back when (how long has it been anyway, Lynn?), it’s quite a different place.

All the fun we have been having on this blog! I second KevinB above.

Several new things that God is teaching me all at once and in a short time. Some of it thanks to people on this blog.

I’m leaving on Monday to vist my elderly parents for ten days, and then our daughter, SIL, and granddaughter (age 9 months).
Rant
My husband can’t go along this time.

Rave: Georgia wins the Sugar Bowl (and BIG!)
Rant: The BCS system locking the two of the hottest teams (UGA and USC) out of the championship game. At least two of the teams above them (VT and OU) weren’t quite as good as advertised. We’ll see what this means in the championship game, when a cream-puff schedule (facing the Ohio “gauntlet” of Akron, Kent, and Youngstown State) Little-10 Team faces off against an LSU team with an overrated defense…

Rant: The incredibly inefficient process of signing in at the caucus last night. As I’ve never been a fan of sports or rock music, I have little experience of being in a crowd so dense that you literally are squeezed on all sides and can only move as the crowd moves (except perhaps once or twice in a crowded subway car during a visit to some big city).
Rave: So many people turning out to participate in the caucus, evidently much higher turnout than the organizers had expected or allowed for in their placement of the sign-in tables.
Semi-shameless plug: I described the experience in my blog, paulinege.wordpress.com
(After all, a few people did ask me to remind them to visit again.)

THE WORKERS HAVE SEIZED THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION!
ahem.
Rave: A healthy, objectively beautiful niece. Seriously, there are good looking babies, and then there’s Peyton.
Rant: Roger Clemens. The amazing chemical man’s denials are getting awfully tired. I can’t wait for the libel lawsuit filed by McNamee.

Just recieved a new life insurance policy after two months of jumping through hoops!
Rant:
It includes a letter saying I haven’t consulted a doctor or received medical treatment since applying. Which I have – for back pain. So here I go again…

The BCS system locking the two of the hottest teams (UGA and USC) out of the championship game.
The one thing the BCS does not like is losses to vastly inferior opponents, no matter when it happens. This applies even to USC (a loss to Stanford, a forty point dog) and Georgia (a loss to South Carolina, another big dog). Especially when those big losses are to in-conference patsies.

Are you kidding? Most of us saw this coming a mile away! What’s the matter with these knuckleheads?

Lester, lest we forget it, South Carolina began the season something like 6-1 (and in the top ten at one point), and they finished the season bowl eligible. And Georgia is certainly a better team now than they were the second week of the season (SC was an underdog, but I don’t think they were that big of an underdog — certainly not 40 points — at the time). I’m no USC (the Cal version) fan by any stretch, but I don’t think too many schools, especially the “elite” schools of the Little-10 (so faithfully represented by their #2 team, Illinois), would be lining up to play them at this point.
Of course, I still remember at least one person saying that Hawaii would have “no problem” (I believe that is an exact quote) against Georgia and that Colt Brennan would pick apart Georgia’s defense. Remember that? The BCS was responsible, btw, for pitting that “vastly inferior” opponent against Georgia in a prime time game. Guess the BCS makes all sort of mistakes…

Here is the exact quote, posted on December 3rd, at 11:40 am: “Georgia and its fans should stop whining. Hawaii could, and should, really put a beating on them.”
