Good morning!
Today’s quote is from literature: “Sir, I perceive by the Book in my hand, that I am condemned to die, and after that to come to Judgment, and I find that I am not willing to do the first, nor able to do the second.”

Pilgrim’s Progress?
Report comment to moderator
Pilgrim’s Progress sounds right, though my guess would have been A Man for All Seasons, about Thomas More (it has some of the intellecutal word play associated with him in it).

Here’s a movie quote I saw a clip of yesterday. I thought I might submit to Lynn, but I’ll post it here for folks to guess (it’s pretty easy).
“The children of the night. What music they make!”

BTW, if I’m right with the quote, I’d like a nice digital cinnamon roll this morning…

TJ – Dracula? (Sad commentary if I get this right, but it was a scary book.)
Report comment to moderator
It is the “old man in rags” from Pilgrim’s Progress.
So, TJ, you sort of win, even though you question-marked your answer.
Report comment to moderator
FP, I almost always question-mark my answers if I am not 100% sure (about 95% this time). But, I’m willing to share my roll if you want!
NJL — Dracula is correct!

NJL — As a family project, all 5 of us read Dracula. We had garlic every night for a month!
Very scary book.

TJ wins! Pilgrim’s Progress is correct. Please enjoy your digital cinnamon rolls…

They only come in half-dozens.
(BTW, are you torturing me because you know I’m on low-carb diet?!)
Report comment to moderator
I can’t eat all 6: NJL gets one for guessing the movie, FP gets one for being more specific, and LV can have one if she wants to cheat on her diet!!!

Good morning everybody. What are you all doing? Smells like cinnamon rolls. Wow, they sure look good. I like cinnamon rolls.

On yesterday’s Whirled Views, I posted several links to reviews on Frank Schaeffer’s new book Crazy For God.
After sleeping on it, I begin to wonder at the value of airing all the dirty laundry of the family. Not only is he stealing their reputation, he’s dishonored them. Broke two commandments with one blow so to speak. The dubious value of this betrayal is a rapid descent from the pedestal we put the Schaeffers on…
Then of course, certain extended family members have called these assertions into question. (Os Guiness) Or have carefully crafted statements which avoid agreeing or disagreeing with Frank. (Udo Middleman)
Still other reviewers loved the book. These are usually former or disaffected christians and agnostics. They delight in seeing the glory stripped from the Schaeffers and laugh at their pitiful humanity. Left wing blogs have made much of the book, and have crowed in glee. I imagine this is where Night Train ran upon the information about it, and then linked to the John Whitehead review that started the subject.
I’m torn between outrage at their tarnished reputation on the one hand and gratitude for exposing the humanity on the other. If I were assured at the truthfulness of it, I may not be so outraged. Apparently it’s difficult to separate truth from fiction in Franks book (although some parts are outright fabrication). This is probably the greatest weakness which Frank admits to in the introductory parts of the book.
Not sure I’ll read it after all this…

Oh! No, I couldn’t, it is hers. She is probably sitting at her desk now, the light buttery cinnamony aroma wafting up to her nostrils. Her eyes glancing down seeing the lightly browned roll with little raisins and walnut pieces peeking out as the melted brown sugar slowly drips down onto the plate. Her associates all peering around the cubicles, trying to discover who was blessed with the vaguely yeasty smelling dish complete with carmelized sugar topping.. no, but thanks for offering. I will be okay. Not to worry.. thanks, really, thanks.

ok, mumsee, don’t say i didn’t offer…

Apparently I spoke too soon about using good sense. Al Sharpton got involved and the Golf Channel has suspended the woman who made the lynching comment about Tiger Woods. Woods knows her and said he wasn’t offended, but other people had to butt in and say it was racially motivated and offensive.
Haven’t we all said things we wish we hadn’t?
Report comment to moderator
There’s a lot of things Al Sharpton has said that I wish he hadn’t. So how often does he do this? Almost as often as he opens his mouth.

TJ,
Thanks, I won’t. I will say that due to the direction of parts of this discussion I have pulled out the ingredients and begun the long but wonderful task of making homemade cinnamon raisin walnut rolls with the brown sugar sticky topping. Sometimes one eats the way one shouldn’t. There will be plenty, you all are welcome to stop by for a roll and a cup of tea.

Oh Mumsee what kind of tea? I love real tea.

Oooohhh.. I want one.
I bet I make some this weekend too.

How come Whirled Views 1.10 isn’t visible in the regular place today?

It’s too bad that I just finished lunch, topped off with warm homemade apple crisp. I had to add just a dollop of ice cream too. Then I had to nibble on a couple of the spiced nuts I had just taken out of the oven. I had to make sure they tasted ok, didn’t I? Way to full for cinnamon rolls. Good thing I can’t smell them over all the other smells!

Speaking of warm apple crisp with jus a dollop of ice cream, what about some rhubarb crisp? My hubbie makes a mean dutch oven rhubarb blackberry cobbler..

Mumsee, your post at 14 had me drooling on my keyboard.
After lunch today, we finished off the cake I made for my MiL’s birthday last night – chocolate with peanut butter chips and chocolate chips mixed in, topped with ice cream. It was better last night when it was still warm enough to melt the ice cream, but still yummy today.
Now, what should I make for supper…

Dispatches from the GWOT:
FBI Wiretaps Dropped Due to Unpaid Bills
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 5:11 p.m. ET
WASHINGTON (AP) — Telephone companies have cut off FBI wiretaps used to eavesdrop on suspected criminals because of the bureau’s repeated failures to pay phone bills on time.
A Justice Department audit released Thursday blamed the lost connections on the FBI’s lax oversight of money used in undercover investigations. In one office alone, unpaid costs for wiretaps from one phone company totaled $66,000.
In at least one case, a wiretap used in a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act investigation ”was halted due to untimely payment,” the audit found. FISA wiretaps are used in the government’s most sensitive and secretive criminal and intelligence investigations, and allow eavesdropping on suspected terrorists or spies.
”We also found that late payments have resulted in telecommunications carriers actually disconnecting phone lines established to deliver surveillance results to the FBI, resulting in lost evidence,” according to the audit by Inspector General Glenn A. Fine.
More than half of 990 bills to pay for telecommunication surveillance in five unidentified FBI field offices were not paid on time, the report shows.
What is worse, an anti-terrorism so incompetent that it can’t pay its phone bills, or a Telecom Corp with the chutzpah to cut off a terrorism surveillance line?

I wasn’t aware of that KI – thanks for that interesting bit of info. That’s neat you and her can share this interesting place.

Hi. everyone!
I won’t be around much for the next couple of weeks, but did want to stop in and say “hi” while I’m next to a computer. I’m visiting my elderly parents for 10 days or so and then heading off to visit my daughter, sil, and granddaughter. I’ll say “hi” when I get the chance, and then will have more opportunity to be here again after January 25th.

TJ- Thanks for the cinnamon roll (see Lighter Side thread). But I am trying to cut down on carbs, so I will only take half of one. Give the other half to mumsee, since she still thinks I stole some cookies last year.

Gasoline costs forty cents less at Sams Club in Spartanburg, SC than on I-95 in Fla. ($2.78.9 vs $3.18.9. You can get Shell farther up I-26 for $2.86.9) It’ $3.09.9 in Hendersonville, about the same as Orlando.
I waved at EYG, but she didn’t wave back.
Don’t believe those signs on I-95 in Fl about selling fruit and pecans at rediculously low prices.

Just make sure to clean it all out by Friday, or it gets thrown in the garbage!

Which shows that, typical of WoW evvies, you’ve got some serious deficiencies when it comes to basic reading skills. I didn’t post the link the the Whitehead piece; Jon Rowe did.

Welcome back Chas, hope you had a good visit, vacation, whatever you went south for.
Hi Janie, enjoy the family.
KI, blackberries are supposed to be growing on the edge of my property but I suspect they are too close to the neighbors crop fields, they are not thriving. But I planted them along with blueberries (not in the same place) and raspberries and strawberries as I do like to eat berries.

MUMSEE #23: mmmmmmm…..rhubarb/blackberry cobbler sounds like heaven for ya taste buds. As a cook, I reckon anything cooked in a dutch oven turns out superior moreso than foods cooked in other ways.
Victoria #24: only 20 tons of wipeout, huh? Maybe I should have written a tax check for a few more tonnage…. mwahahahahaha
Janie #30: May you experince peace and goodwill amongst your family, and alot of laughs along the way! I’ll pray for a safe journey, that you will return to us refreshed, invigorated, joyful…….and a panful of banana bread. teeheeheeheee
