Too soon?
It seems France will hear wedding bells in the near future: French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his girlfriend, model-turned-singer Carla Bruni, are expected to wed early next month. Although mostly mum on the subject, Sarkozy told reporters at a news conference, “There is a strong chance that you will learn about it after it’s already done.”
Sarkozy met Bruni shortly after his wife, Cécilia, divorced him three months ago. Some–especially the French–are wondering at the speed of the relationship, which may explain in part why Sarkozy’s approval rating has dropped. Do you think Sarkozy, as the leader of a world power, is acting a bit foolish in his personal life, or do circumstances require him to cut to the chase?

It’s none of my business.

The French are a world power? Stop the presses!
I’m certain Sarko was dating his current wife while married to his prior wife. A bit reminiscent of a former NYC Mayor, no?

Kyle A,
I tend to feel the same, but not because this is about his private life. If I were a French citizen I think this would have significance for me, because it would tell something about the character of the man leading my country. It’s been over 30 years since I did a report on the French form of government for French class, so I don’t remember how their President is selected. But when it comes to voting for our president, I do take into consideration how a candidate deals with the matter of marriage vows.

It appears they have already married this past weekend. Who cares?
Most people read the news on line.

Maybe it’s not a mistake. It could work.
It does seem sudden, but they aren’t kids.
His fiance looks suspiciously like his first wife. Perhaps he’s trying to fill the void she left?
His fiance’s ring looks a lot like the engagement ring he gave his wife.
He might have learned from his mistakes and perhaps he won’t repeat them.
He might have been terribly lonely in his first marriage and wants companionship and intimacy immediately.
Maybe he doesn’t like being single after being married.
I hope it works out for them.
