Rant:
Ditto the above.

Rant:
People who post really long URLs which ruin threads so you have to scroooooollllll back and forth to read them.

PEOPLE! LOOK HERE!

www.tinyurl.com

You can make the longest URL (website link for those not internet savvy) into a really short URL. Just cut and paste your endless URL in the form at the above site, and it will make it very small.

Lynn,

Sad as it is, I'm not sure I remember my first published work with my name on it--unless you count two letters to the editor published in the Phoenix paper when I was 14-16. After that, my early published work for a long time didn't have my name on it (book reviews in Moody magazine, book covers, press releases, etc.). Somewhere in there I got some stuff with my name on it, but then I managed to do something few people do: I got a book published before I ever published a full-length article with my name on it.

Oh yeah, I had published pieces in my college yearbook and newspaper, but that didn't really seem to count as real publishing.

Anyway, I probably rivaled your enthusiasm when I got my first book contract, and I'll probably be swinging from the chandeliers if and when I publish one book I'm working on that really has my passion in it (a different book from the one that is a step or two from a contract). There's nothing quite like having a publisher decide that one's work is worthy of print.

Klasko,
Congratulations! That's great.

:-)
My Art teacher asked me to be his T.A. (teaching assistant). He also said he thought I had talent.
His comment was 100% unsolicited, so it was a great affirmation and encouragement.

:-(
Now that guests are gone, my husband and I are tightening our belts and losing holiday weight. The idea of dieting (even though thats not what we're doing) makes me a little food crazy.

:-)
It looks like it was only a 2 lbs. holiday weight gain for me!

:-)
I like splitting an entree at a restaurant. It saves money, and it's kind of a togetherness thing.

:-(
It's been a long time since I've taken a walk. I was too preoccupied. I hope to start soon. It was raining today, though.

Katie, it gets MUCH easier after that first year. Like you, I felt like I had to grade everything, and it just snowballs. I remember one Friday night that first year, I was so exhausted that I lay on my living room floor for just a few seconds, and the next thing I knew it was about 3 in the morning.
