Arcadia,

Please follow through accordingly, and consider killing off anyone who doesn't fit your qualifications at some particular time. Then consider the company you'll keep by equating blastocysts with brain dead peole.

Take (more) care,

Who cares about an embryo? I Do!

I also care about those who currently don't have the 'capacity to reason' including blastocysts, brain dead people and Arcadia

Third, human beings, unlike the other animals, are possessed of the ... capacities of reason and free will by their nature. It is because they have these capacities that they are due full moral respect. But since these capacities are natural, humans have them from the time that they exist and for as long as they exist...

Is he seriously contending that a blastocyst or a brain dead person has the capacity to reason and has free will???

Utter garbage.

Great Q&A
I love to learn from a good, thinking apologist.
The author seems to be an excellent educator.

I found this post to be insightful and mind-broadening.

Thank you.

Dualistic metaphysics, in which many Christians are tempted to attribute humanity to some extracorporeal, extraphysical substance, the soul for instance, comes back to bite the hand that feeds this notion. When did it arrive? When was it imparted? What of twins? Better to consider embryos as so much like us when we were that age that we should shudder to think of using them for any other purpose than their own existence.

What's special about this body, even in its most formative stages, is that it's the one related to our parents. And it's the one to which God decided to enter a dynamic relationship. That's enough. Or at least it ought to be.
