#31 I think Noonan has a valid point. Lets look at Bush's domestic efforts: budget busting Great Society projects like free prescriptions for retirees. The horrific unconstitutional NCLB (Thank you Sen Kennedy and Sen McCain!) No vetos whatsoever of any of the various Big Govt Conservative pork projects.

We dont need a GOP, we need a Grand New Party. One that would follow up on the Goldwater/Reagan vision: lower taxes, abolition of Dept of Ed, Dept of Energy. Greater reliance on consumer choice and free markets to "solve" crises in healthcare, energy etc. Let the state's re-assume responsibility for all the functions the constitution doesnt explicitly enumerate to the Federal govt. With his main preoccupation being fighting a war against fanatical Jihadis, President Bush has been content to let domestic issues like spending and taxes be the exclusive purview of Congress
Its no wonder that Reaganites like Noonan are disappointed

I have noticed that WV traffic has lessened of late.
I have been really busy entertaining guests and getting back to normal and starting a new painting class.

But, a few times that I have been available, I've gone on WV only to find that there was some argument that I was not at all interested in, or some discussion on a subject for which I didn't have any real contribution.

I enjoy WV, and believe the traffic will pick up. But, more threads have spread people out more. I thought this was done intentionally. There are more forums than there used to be.

Still, I think the traffic will pick up.

I liked the movie quotes. They kept things light.

Our internet connection was down for a few days and we lost contact with the world. :( But, wow, we were so free!

Whirled News is one of my new favorites. I get to talk about a brand new topic and it's ok! I hope it doesn't go anywhere.

Lynn- I read regularly, but post rarely. Even if the discussions are cooling, how is the traffic? I read some posts completely, but skim others. I enjoy the Friday Poem, though I rarely comment on it either. I find that if I comment I spend too much time here checking to see if anyone has responded to my comment. (Vanity, vanity.) And someone usually says what I was going to say, but better.

MakeItMan- Thanks for the StrongBad link. My teen boys find him hysterical, and were very impressed when they found me watching it. Quite humorous. They also showed me that there are extras hiding at the end, so scan around for hot spots if you didn't already. (Whisper quiet hamster wheel)

I know there are a lot of Peggy Noonan fans on WoW.

So what does everyone think of her column today, where she says President Bush "destroyed the Republican Party"?

I think with the new sidebar with a listing of all the latest blog entries, that the commenting may pick up. It has made navigating so much easier. Now I can see at a glance what I want to look at, and perhaps contribute to.

I agree. There seems to be too much to read & try to keep up with. I sometimes spend too long on the Front Page before I even hit the blog.

I've even been thinking of "giving up" the blog (& the Front Page), cuz it's just too time-consuming trying to keep up.

Too many posts. I'd say limit the blog to 10 posts per day. One per hour or so. Pass the posts around to the other contributors so that only the best topics make the cut. Once a topic is bumped to the next page the commenting slows down.

The Friday poem thing doesn't get a lot of traffic.

Plus I noticed that the blog has settled into just a few dozen people who hang around all day. It seems to to have turned into a nice little club that is hard to break into.

Some feel like they have something to contribute to every topic. There aren't really a whole lot of new commentors.
