Great quote. Here’s where my age gives me an advantage. It’s Errol Flynn.

Congrats, kBells! You will love your new service.

Hey Make it Man and Cameron, thanks for the Gravatar advice yesterday. We shall see if I can pull it off.
Travis Birkenstock, sorry that was not me you described yesterday. She sounds fun though. A burnette you say? Hey, I think it was Lynn! Oh and yeah, welcome to our cold. We think this is freezing and we are in the very dead of winter. The waves were not so hot yesterday, which was good because I was stuck in my study trying to make deadlines.

ABC News is reporting that Edwards will be dropping out of the race.
Report comment to moderator
He might as well drop out. He’s been totally eclipsed by the other two, and didn’t even win his own state.
I feel for him, but I don’t think I’d keep spending so much time and money if I were in his shoes.
Report comment to moderator
Edwards has never seemed genuine enough to be presidential, but he’s definitely veep material. I don’t know that Hillary would take him, but I’m pretty sure that Obama would. The real question is: who will he endorse? Smart money is on Obama.

Hey Everybody – I know I’m too early for rants and raves this week, but just wanted to rave now because I’ll be out of the net until Monday. Not that I’ll be missed, but I’ll miss all of you.
Rave – I’m going to the Writing For The Soul Writers Conference in Colorado Springs and I’m soooo looking forward to it.

Why are so many pregnant teens named Chastity?
Report comment to moderator
Hi all…
Here’s another early rave:
I have only one more project to go, and I’ll be caught up! I had so many things to do this month that I had to make a long list and schedule it out. I didn’t think I was going to get through it. I finished the DSL/Phone wiring project last night, and amazingly it all worked (this time). I spent all Sunday afternoon getting things put in place (crouching under under trusses and over ceiling joists in the attic, running wires back and forth – I’m still sore from that!) only to have it all not work… But I reinstalled the splitter last night (much easier this time because all of the plywood I installed to step on) and it all came together. Whoo hoo! Now I can return the punchdown tool and get my deposit back!
Now if I can just finish these two turnings in time for the birthday on Friday….

Interesting question, stubob.
I have one of my own: They are?
And another:
Who should have names like Charity and Grace?

Edwards played a role in the race that evangelicals should emulate: he advanced policy positions that other candidates had to respond to. He was far and away the candidate with ideas. So while he didn’t catch fire, he had an important impact.
And that’s a model for all kinds of evangelical who enter the political sphere: ideas really can shape the contour of the political process.
Report comment to moderator
Stubob, I’ve wondered the same thing.
Klasko, Enjoy the conference! I’d like to go to a writing conference this year, but it’s not in the budget (at least until I get one of these books published).
Report comment to moderator
Klasko — have fun at the conference! This year, I am going to my very first writers conference as a participant (I’ve been as faculty): Mt. Hermon in March.
Can’t wait to be a learner! I think I’m going to take the fiction track.

So, Lynn. I’m looking for a roommate at Mt Hermon . . .
Economy, though.
Report comment to moderator
Wow, Michelle, that means I’ll get to meet you! We should do coffee.
I already have a roommate, though…We were so excited that we booked it way back when the doubles were still available. Sorry!
Report comment to moderator
I’ll wear my American flag hat and you can find me. I like to sit near the windows on the east side of the dining room.
Several years ago at Mt. Hermon a guy joined me at the breakfast table and when we started chatting I realized I knew his voice. He turned out to be the announcer for Creation Update, my husband’s favorite radio program which we listen to on the Internet every Tuesday night. We shared lots of Reasons to Believe stories over the next several days and I inadvertantly set him up in a lot of interesting conversations with other breakfasting conferees. Lots of fun.
Many creative and unusual people attend Mt. Hermon Christian Writer’s Conference and once they get past the “I’ve got to find a publisher,” angst and relax, it’s a rich, rich time. Clever ideas, great vocabularies, lots of laughter and tales of extraordinary experiences with God. I’m looking forward to it.

I’m sorry to be hogging WVs today, but I’ve just read something in Oswald Chamber’s My Utmost for His Highest which is puzzling me:
God never speaks to us in dramatic ways, but in ways that are easy to misunderstand. Then we say, “I wonder if that is God’s voice?” Isaiah said that the Lord spoke to him “with a strong hand,” that is, by the pressure of his circumstances (Isaiah 8:11). Without the sovereign hand of God Himself, nothing touches our lives. Do we discern His hand at work, or do we see things as mere occurrences?
Get into the habit of saying, “Speak, Lord,” and life will become a romance (1 Samuel 3:9). Every time circumstances press in on you, say, “Speak, Lord,” and make time to listen. Chastening is more than a means of discipline— it is meant to bring me to the point of saying, “Speak, Lord.”
Think back to a time when God spoke to you. Do you remember what He said? Was it Luke 11:13 , or was it 1 Thessalonians 5:23? As we listen, our ears become more sensitive, and like Jesus, we will hear God all the time.
Should I tell my “Eli” what God has shown to me? This is where the dilemma of obedience hits us. We disobey God by becoming amateur providences and thinking, “I must shield ’Eli,’ ” who represents the best people we know.
God did not tell Samuel to tell Eli— he had to decide that for himself. God’s message to you may hurt your “Eli,” but trying to prevent suffering in another’s life will prove to be an obstruction between your soul and God. It is at your own risk that you prevent someone’s right hand being cut off or right eye being plucked out (see Matthew 5:29-30 ).
Never ask another person’s advice about anything God makes you decide before Him. If you ask advice, you will almost always side with Satan. “. . . I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood . . .” (Galatians 1:16 ).

M comments–I’m surprised by that last paragraph. Proverbs tells us in a multitude of advisers there is wisdom. But it also makes me think that I can get in the way of the things God is doing in someone’s life if I interpret their behavior through my own point of view, rather than trusting God is at work in ways I don’t understand.
Food for thought here, and much to argue with.
Report comment to moderator
A person could read that and become an isolationist rather quickly. Interesting thoughts for the day though. I am sure when it was time to begin speaking to the gentiles, had he sought advisers, we would not be part of the Family. But there is also very clear and true guidance in a plethora of life steps to be had from the mouths of those who have gone before. Hmm, I shall enjoy this, thanks Michelle.

Michelle,
I would guess that it means that if you have a clear sense that God is directing you in a particular way, trying to get confirmation from someone else indicates a lack of trust. I don’t think it means that God doesn’t sometimes use the advice of wise people as a way of directing us. As far as how that would affect my giving advice to someone else, I don’t think it would, unless the person specifically mentioned having a clear sense of God’s direction already, but was looking for some kind of confirmation. In that case I would encourage the person to go ahead with whatever it was, unless I thought it was clearly contrary to Scripture.

Thanks all of you who prayed yesterday for my friend. I can now tell you that he and his wife saw a councellor and are working very hard to save their marriage. Would you mind praying for them again?
I am all for convincing people to stay and work it out

Does anyone know the proper way to use “google” in a sentence?
As in “I googled “mouse” and got Mickey.”
Or, is it “I Googled “mouse” and got Mickey.”
I realize it would be, “Check out Google for that information.” But when I google google, I get . . . the google home page.

Michelle – since you are using the name of a registered trademark, shouldn’t you spell it with the upper case G as in the trademark?
Report comment to moderator
When used as a verb, I generally see it lowercase. We don’t capitalize kleenex usually, for example, even though that’s a noun.

Above is mine-I forgot to log him out!

I believe the name Google is a play on the word googol, which is the number 1 followed by 100 zeroes, which is not to be confused with a googolplex, which is 10 to the googol power.
So, “google,” with a small g, isn’t a word at all. I say it should always be capitalized.
Not that I know much about such things, but my mother was a writer.

Re: the Oswald Chambers quote-
While in Bible college, my friend, Marilyn, was planning to spend the next school year abroad. She sensed the Holy Spirit telling her that she was to have a very difficult year ahead.
At least a couple other ladies had a message from God for her, confirming this. However, they added their advice that she shouldn’t go.
Marilyn knew that God wanted her to go anyway, but be prepared spiritually for a difficult year.
It was indeed a very tough year, but one in which she learned much from the Lord about perseverence & trust.

I’ve seen the word “google” in lowercase.
(Sorry, Stubob.)

OK, fine. It’s been a slow WMB day for me and this was the eruditest I could get. Then, you squash me with a single sentence.
Perhaps tomorrow there will be something I actually know about. Otherwise, I’m left texting TomBob about the evils of his cell phone (see Ivory Towers thread today).

I’m in the market for wireless internet service from a major carrier (personal use). It cannot be tied to cable TV or a phone company (because I have neither). If you have it, and are willing share the info:
1. Who is the carrier?
2. What is the monthly fee?
3. How long is the service agreement?
Yes, I’m still in Baton Rouge, but I plan to leave Sunday or Monday for home. I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed again! I’m going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans on Saturday. We’re going to one of the biggest parades of the season. Oh, and I’m bringing home a huge King Cake for my fellow workers. I hope I get the prize out of the cake (a little plastic baby – a symbol for good luck).
In regards to my voice, I finally have an appointment with a speech therapist. The first opening is March 5th! Well, what’s another month of not being able to talk when it’s been 6 months already?
Report comment to moderator
Anlir,
I don’t have such a service, but our boarder suggested checking with your cell phone carrier (I think I remember you have one–if not, disregard). They sell network cards to provide service in your apartment or wherever. I know AT&T and Sprint market them.

For the second time today, the above is mine.

Anlir! I’m happy to see you back! (I know you’re not happy with my ex-gay article, but I’ve still missed having you around!)

Yeah Anlir, the sooner you’re back home, the better. I never thought about not being able to talk on the phone! How do you do business? How do you order pizza? That is on beyond frustrating. At least there is text-messaging.
I know I’m answering one of your comments from another thread, but I forgot which one:) Anyway, parying you find you voice with or without doctors.
