All those ads
Per the post, below, on the Super Bowl, here’s a decent review of the advertisements, and you can watch them all here. My favorite: the talking coffee stain. My least favorite (there were many): the talking baby. Talking babies and talking animals were awesome in, like, 1990.

You’re right that talking babies have largely jumped the shark (as has the term, “jumped the shark”). But, the spitting up takes the first baby commercial to an entirely new level of awesomeness.

Loved the Frist/Carville Coke ad. I also thought the talking baby was cute. It’s the squirrels who’ve jumped the shark.

At the dentist this morning, they/we were talking about the ads. The only one I remembered was the squirrels. I gather the ads were the only thing anyone south and west of the Hudson cared about.

I didn’t see all of them and don’t plan to. Of the ones I saw, I thought the talking baby ones were the best. How could a talking baby be out of style?
I also liked the Coca Cola ad with the competing balloons. Charlie Brown won!

Hasn’t the competing ballon ad been on television before? I thought I saw that weeks ago.
Kbells, I liked the Carville/Frist ad as well. It was somewhat clever (seeing grown men still doing the “jinx” is a bit much, though). It also highlighted, I think, the difference in soft drink demographics: Pepsi was pushing Justin Timberlake mp3s, Coke has politicians that no one under age 25 or so has probably even heard of. A stark difference, imho.
Still having Carville and Frist cozying up over a Coke made me all warm inside. Kind of like seeing George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton together on those Katrina relief ads. Nice to see those with political differences getting along. Sorta the opposite of seeing Kayne (”George Bush hates black people”) West and Mike Myers (he of the “This guy’s having a meltdown on live TV; please get me out of here!” look) together…

My favorite each year usually turns out to be a Budweiser Clydesdale one, and this year was no different. I loved the take on the “Rocky” movies, complete with the music and the dalmatian in the Burgess Meredith role.
I also liked the coke balloon one. The Audi “Godfather” ad was memorable, but I think a lot of people didn’t get the joke of his car’s horsepower in the bed instead of his horse’s head.

I was a fan of the Audi ad early on, but that’s just because my current automotive object de lust is the R8.
Overall, I was kinda disappointed overall. The only one (besides the car porn) that stands out to me the next day was the Tide ad with the talking stain.

#2 son had this to say: “I really liked that commercial where the Giants won. Oh, wait….that was the game! HAHAHAHA!”

On FoxNews last night some ladies were evaluating the best and worst ads. One of them mentioned the Victoria’s Secret ad. She was right. Simple, PG rated, cheap to make, and timed appropriately. In the fourth quarter, a sexy lady in nighty says “Now let the real game begin.” Then “Happy Valentines Day”. 100% of the men got the message.
