Sawgunner,

Your timing on Berenson is incorrect. She was arrested, tried and convicted in Peru in the mid 90's for her involvement with Tupac Amaru.

Didnt Puerto Rican "separatists" even attack the Congress when Truman was in office?
I have to agree that there is a huge gap between pre and post 9/11 policy and outlook.
A young lefty American named Lori Berenson was arrested for terroristic activity in Peru. This was after "You're eithr with us or against us" and at the high water mark of all the other 9/11 harsh rhetoric.
This president has done nothing to get Lori Berenson freed. Nor should he. We presumably need every ally we can get in this global anti terror crusade.
The pardons for the PR terrorist cop-killers? Just an example of the slime and sleeze the Clintons will bring back to the WH.
Go Barack!

Chas and Arcadia..

With respect to "old news"...With the potential of a second Clinton presidency in the offing, I don't think we can look past the Clintons' long history of trading national security for influence, campaign cash, and votes. FALN is not the only example of the Clintons' winking at criminality in order to advance themselves politically. There is also Chinagate, which involved not only campaign cash from illegal donors on four continents, but also the compromise of sensitive weapons technology and the sellout of Taiwan to Red China.

"Old news" is important in evaluating any person for any position -- from your babysitter to your latest hire to your president. What a person has done before indicates what he or she will do in the future.

Interestingly, the "old news" technique was one frequently used by the Clinton administration's spin doctors to dismiss, minimize, or trivialize the accumulating weight of related, incriminating incidents.

I think Burlingame's question is a legitimate one.

This is not old news for Debra Burlingame whose brother was the pilot of the plane that crashed into the Pentagon.

Interesting that the FBI was appalled about this Clinton decision:

It was within that context that the FBI gave its position on the FALN clemencies -- which the White House succeeded in keeping out of news coverage but ultimately failed to suppress -- stating that "the release of these individuals will psychologically and operationally enhance the ongoing violent and criminal activities of terrorist groups, not only in Puerto Rico, but throughout the world." The White House spun the clemencies as a sign of the president's universal commitment to "peace and reconciliation" just one year after Osama bin Laden told his followers that the United States is a "paper tiger" that can be attacked with impunity.

Arcadia, it would be the height of naivete to think Bill won't loom large in a Hillary presidency. One shudders to predict what their next combined stunt might be.

The one I loved was Hillary's brother taking a six-figure consulting fee for arranging a pardon from Hillary's husband. But it's OK now, since he says he returned the money...

One of the victims was decapitated. They found bombs and C-4. Pre 9/11 or Post 9/11, these were-are dangerous people. To equate these pardons with fundraising is beyond the pale. They're murderers, plain and simple.
