Rush doesn't understand independent voters, and makes the mistake of thinking they are like he is, ideological, but less so.

In recent elections, the most powerful Republican weapon has been accusing the Democratic candidate of flip-flopping. Gore "reinvented" himself and Kerry went wind surfing and voted for some version of a bill before he voted against another version of it. This line of attack is designed to influence independents, not the Republican base, who of course are convinced that the Democrats are rigidly consistent socialists.

McCain's problem is that he has run so far to the right that he's actually flip-flopped. It's not bad enough (yet) to tarnish his image as a straight-talker, but it's bad enough that he won't be able to accuse his opponent of inconsistency.

Independents don't vote against Republicans because they find them too conservative. Regardless of the Republican candidate's ideology, they vote for Republicans because of their dislike of the personality of the Democrats.

MIM, I believe his brother David is younger than Rush. I also totally agree with your post #6

Chas, my friend, you are not alone. I too admire Mr. Limbaugh and have been a ditto-head since 1990.

Mega Dittos. I’ve never quite understood the hatred for Rush… I think he’s bombastic, I think he’s arrogant, I think he’s self-centered. But I also think he’s entertaining, informed, and usually right.

Yeah. I listen to him in the car sometimes, but don't admit to many people that I like him. He's irreverent and does not represent a Christian view. And I do feel slightly irritated that he's right so often. Which is probably most of the reason people hate him. Somebody that arrogant doesn't deserve to be right!

Make it Man #6. I concur with your assessmt. I dont tune up Rush that much anymore. I still devour my National Review and HUMAN EVENTS when they come in the mail. EL-Rushbo has many imitators and would-be usurpers. I particularly like Michael Medved when he has "Disagreemt Day". You can't beat those callers. And I love Laura Ingraham.
Michael Savage or Mark Levin? Not so much

Llama,

So was Rush the youngest in the family? Or third in the birth order? He just seems like the baby of the family to me. I don't know why, but they seem to land on their feet and make good later in life, while the rest of us "responsible" older siblings struggle along...

Chas at #9: SteveG. I don’s see how you can draw that conclusion from anything anyone, anywhere, has said.

Well, Rush is saying that losing the votes of moderates and liberals would cost McCain the election. The conservative vote alone would not be enough to win over the Democratic candidate (Rush is saying.)

However, losing the conservative vote is apparently, as Rush tells it, survivable.

Ergo, the moderate/liberal wing of the R party must be significantly larger than the conservative.

#3 RRBAR,

Thinking me a liberal is a hoot. The reason I say that Rush is an egomaniac is because I have known him for many years. My sister in law actually worked for him for many years as well. We have enough Rush stories to write a book - a funny one at that.

The rest of his family is great. He was sort of the black sheep who wasn't going amount to much because he knew everything, when he didn't. He was always too smart for his britches and couldn't get motivated to be anything because he was already better than what ever he was going to be. I haven't seen him for awhile but I'm sure he hasn't changed.

Yes, he is way more right more than he is wrong today and he found his true calling. The liberals hate him for it. God put Rush on earth for the liberals to hate more than Bush. Put any capital letter before ush and the whack job specialists will hate them too it no doubt.

SteveG. I don's see how you can draw that conclusion from anything anyone, anywhere, has said. If there was a conservative anywhere in sight, we would see.
As Rush says, "Name the top ten moderates in history."
