New New York governor comes clean
A week after Eliot Spitzer’s ongoing fling with a prostitute was found out, his successor David Paterson, who was sworn in yesterday, has confessed that both he and his wife have had extramarital affairs. “This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point,” Paterson told New York’s Daily News. “But I went to counseling and we decided we wanted to make it work. Michelle is well aware of what went on.”
The Patersons should be praised for admitting to their past indiscretions and for staying together and working out their problems. One has to wonder, though, whether in another time or place they would’ve had to go public with their confession. It’s no doubt the press or a future political opponent would have dug up these skeletons in his closet at some point.

I think this information was already circulating, and they just decided to nip it all in the bud.

No suprise. There are swingers conventions in both Las Vegas and Florida every year. One sex club alone has members in 38 states and 20 countries overseas. People just like sex and tittilation. They may beg for forgiveness on Sunday morning, but Saturday night, they are begging for something entirely different.

I don’t think the Patersons were “swingers.” He admits he cheated because he thought his marriage was over. They evidently forgave each other and have worked through it. From what I saw yesterday, they have two nice kids.
I think they did the right thing by just admitting to this rather than try to hide it. This way it is what it is. What they’ve done is far different than what Spitzer did. Spitzer didn’t have an affair, and he engaged in other criminal activity as well.

Did he need to confess for his wife too?

I’m struggling with estimating the relevance of this admission. My meter is not calibrated that low.

Jeeze!!! I was so hoping he could make it one whole day before someone busted his mythical, if little, black, blind, bubble. The dreaded triple B’s

The story about Patterson was circulating in Albany (I saw it referenced as the phenomenon of the “Capitol Family” – i.e. a legislator’s second “family” kept in the Capitol while he’s away form home).
