One thing I never understood about Ted Turner was his hatred of religion contrasted with his love for truth, at least when it came to movie making. He took great pains to achieve historical accuracy in movies such as Gettysburg.

But even more enigmatic was his Bible series on Abraham, David, Samson, Moses, etc., which were far more accurate and honest than any Christian production. Perhaps he was unrestrained about presenting the Bible like it is, taboos and all, and in the end produced a far more accurate product.

So I don't know what this recent turn about means for him, but it seems he is at least moving in the right direction. Bravo!

I understand that Jane Fondna has made a commitment to Christ. I also understand that she has chosen some of the wrong people for mentor. That is crucial for spiritual growth.
I believe Ted Turner was a Christian who turned against Christianity when his (sister ??) died.

My father left his church for many years when his son (my 13 yr old brother) was killed.

It's hard to imagine the things that go through a person's mind in times of severe crises.
Maybe we should pray for Ted Turner.

God works in mysterious ways and we can easily see it every day. This is but one, if shocking yet amazing, example. Jane Fonda must be frowning about right now.

I think he has made some progress! God calls people in all sorts of ways at all times of their lives. If he hadn't changed in some way, he would have given the money to another group.

Considering our own fallen condition, which seems to return on a regular basis and requires ongoing repentance, we should consider any temporary, or perhaps permanent, improvement in Turner's attitude a positive. Everyone's heart can use, and thankfully receives, a little softening on occasion—why should his be different or why should his heart remain permanently fossilized.

One hopes he has made some progress since this report made news -

March 7, 2001: CNN founder Ted Turner, in town for a retirement party for anchor Bernard Shaw, left the staff stunned after meeting with them at the network’s Washington bureau. It was Ash Wednesday and a number of those present still had a smudge on their forehead. ‘What are you?’ asked Turner, ‘a bunch of Jesus freaks? You ought to be working for Fox.’ Turner, it may be remembered, stirred controversy a decade ago when he said Christianity is, quote, ‘for losers.’ He apologized for that, but as recently as last August criticized Christianity for being, quote, ‘very intolerant.’
