Good morning!
Today’s quote is from some ancient guy: “Mix a little foolishness with your prudence: It’s good to be silly at the right moment.”

Justus331 is two years younger than my son. I tend to want to correct anyone thay young when he starts mixing in foolishness. “Get with it guys!”

Happy balated birthday, Justus331.

But ya gotta laugh, Chas. And I suspect Justus331 is a happy guy because he does. I hope I never get so old in spirit that I don’t want to be silly.
I just read that there is a report on high schools, that 50% of the kids don’t graduate, Detroit is like 70%. I can’t think of no better reason that this to kick the public school system in the derriere.

I of course haven’t been around much so my post here might be like beating a dead horse, but I have to share some observations.
Since this whole thing with Obama and his pastor I am sensing that “white” people are feeling a little “betrayed” for lack of a better word. Here are open minded people who haven’t judged people by the color of their skin, who have acknowledged past injustices, and who have done what they felt was right and they are finding out that it hasn’t been received in the manner they thought it would be. I am hearing some of the most “liberal” people I know changing their tune. It is sad to see or hear the hurt these people are feeling.
I hope I am making sense and expressing my true thoughts although as I read back over my post I am beginning to doubt it. My job selling cars to the secondary market has opened my eyes to a lot of things I never knew before. Some of it good and some of it bad. I was gratified last night when I was able to send a (black) woman home in a new car last night instead of a used one. She was thrilled. She and her sister both hugged me. Of course it was a marathon closing and we were all three punch-drunk at 9 pm!!!

Kim,
Who would have guessed the White Knight in shining armor was really Darth Vader just like the rest of his political ilk.
Kinky Friedman said it best last night when asked what he though about politics by Bill O’Reilly. Kinky thought for a long time and said well, there are a lot of them doing it thus the poly and they are all blood sucking parasites ……
Best laugh I have had for a long time.

I think Rdean left us over this as well. Post 47 of this thread was the last I’ve seen of him.

I am saddened by the whole mess. There are no easy answers.

Here is another problem I need help with. By new boss is a really nice guy. Perhaps too nice to some degree. He has hired an 18 yr old girl who claims to be married to a 31 yr old man who is in prison. She claims they have custody of her 14 yr old brother who she calls her son (confusion?) and that she also has a 3 yr old son. She talks about the 14 yr old quite a bit but doesn’t mention the 3 yr old as much. She is able to be at work at 9 am every day and stay late every night and has worked 6 days a week for the past 3 weeks she has been there. (We other mothers have to go home to our children at some point). She tells of a doctor putting her on fertility drugs so that she could have a second child. (Has she been fertile long enough to be infertile at 18?). She constantly talks about struggling for money while there is over 400 thousand dollars in her husbands account. But he can’t write a check the prison guards won’t let him. She claims to be deaf in her left ear, which is why she talks so loud although that is the ear she holds the phone to. She is rough and crude and has ticked off almost as many customers as she has not. The other night she had on a dress and I had to ask her to put her leg down. She was sitting in a chair with one leg pulled up knee to chin. I had Chloe with me and had to ask her not to us the F-word in front of my child. I also had to ask her not to talk about her conjugal visits to prison. She has alienated all 12 of us in our department except Jason. She is a project for him and he is bound and determined to be right about her. In the mean time I am feeling like I want to jump out of my skin any time I have to be around her and hear her talking to customers. Even the men I work with are over the drama and want her gone. I know a lot of you are going to defend her and say I should “take her under my wing” and help her. Believe me I have already tried, but she is perfect and knows what she is doing. She is New School and the rest of us are Old School. Have any of you been in a similar type situation and how have you handled it?

#12 KBELLS,
I was hoping Lynn banned RDean or calling Llamas racists. Coming from him we took at as a compliment
If he left because the shine came off of Obama then he is pretty thin skinned and needs to go back to preschool. He is wrong about everything else and it doesn’t bother him in the least. Why would him being wrong about a crooked, parasite, whack job, Marxist politician like Obama make him leave?

Donato left and returned as rdean. Don’t be surprised if someone else appears with the exact same voice. I made a practice of not reading his posts, anyway. Too many words and not enough thought. It’s nice having the poster’s name at the top of the post.
The proof will be when someone with a handle you’ve never seen starts talking about “mystical creation,” particularly on threads having nothing to do with mysticism or Creation.
Anlir, OTOH, is generally thoughtful, though he got pretty cranky there at the end. Perhaps his presuppositions were threatened and he got defensive.

What the dialog of the past week has proven is that there are at least two hot button issues that bring out a lot of heat. Race and politics.
If we want a nice safe blog, just eliminate any posts about race or politics. If any commenter dislikes the heat, they should abstain from entering into these discussions.
Debate can be a contact sports. In contact sports you get a lot of knicks, bruises, and sometimes gaping wounds. It is not for the weak of heart.
I engage according to my ability to withstand pain. There are a few who may not be as diplomatic as I’d like, who are quick to weild a sword, or who just use dirty tactics. It comes with the territory.
It’s not hard to give up when you experience a pile on, or a sucker punch. My cautionary words are, develop eyes in the back of your head, temper you words with softness, and don’t take it personally, after all you really don’t any of the people on this blog “personally.”
There are some voices that I ignore. Others that I will engage. When I sense the conversation is over because it has turned into a merry-go-round, I excuse myself and get on with my life. As long as there is a semblance of sanity, diplomacy, courtesy and respect I stay in the conversation. When it ceases, I go elsewhere.

I was particularly bothered by this part of RDean’s final post.
“Eventually, the secular will have to take a stand against religious intrusion and that’s when I expect to see actual violence.”
I’m not sure if it was a threat or a prediction.

Hi VS. I just now saw your post from a few days ago on the music thread. Oh dear, I think my words came across the wrong way. I was mentioning how my husband “let me” listen to some music he didn’t like; to you, it seemed a sign of him being very dominating. In some ways, at some times, he is. And actually, I am glad for it in a sense–that I have a husband that wants to accept his role as leader in our home. That day months ago that you alluded to that I vented was in fact a very hurtful day. And I won’t pretend that there haven’t been other hard days like it. But I know that hubby is only human. (Besides, I’m not exempt from any fault–I certainly know how to push his buttons and have done it before.)
Anyway, we’ve been through a lot this past month with losing baby #5, regular craziness of our family and ministry life, serious issues at our home church, and trying to figure out our finances on his income with the rising prices of everything! This past Sunday, when I was so sick, he did something very kind for me, something that made him go out of his way to show his concern for me. I praise the Lord for that! All this to say, hubby “letting me” listen to bluegrass is not, in my opinion, a sign of over-domination.
Blessings!

Garden question–
This is the first year I’ve done peas. I checked on them this morning, and several of the plants had popped out of the ground, but had a sprout on them. This is probably a stupid question, but do I stick them back in, or leave them the way they are?

Kim, I’ve been where you are at work, too. I’ve tried to help girls like that, but with no real success. I ended up nodding a lot. I have a feeling she won’t last too long no matter what anyone does.
RDean lived in his own little world. If he comes back, that’s great. Some of his stuff made me laugh, probably not for the reasons he hoped, but it made me laugh.
I agree with Metanoia’s post in its entirety. One would have hoped that the liberals among us had the same views, but that was not to be. We’ve all been hit on the head a time or two; just go away and come back another day.

JNL, Metanoi: I’ve learned, over the years, not to take such things personally. We don’t really know each other to the point where we can be offended by a remark posted in haste, which most of these are. It isn’t a personal thing.
Momoffour: leave the peas alone, they know what they’re doing.
Kim: Somebody else may have better advice, but mine is to avoid this woman as much as possible. There isn’t much you can do. I could say you might be a good influence, but she calls you “Old School”. It may not be immediately apparent, but she is insulting you in her own mind. She is obviously the enlightened one.
A young woman at work once said to my wife, “You’re Old School and proud of it.”
This woman might be changed, but I doubt that you can do it. You must have professional contact with her, but keep Chloe away. And keep it business.
Big rave for preview. You can’t imagine what I almost posted.

The quote sounds like something Benjamin Franklin would have said.

I am thinking the quote is a paraphrase of the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:1 “Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you do bear with me.”

Our phone blew up last week and we went several days without noticing no telemarketers were calling. Then daughter pointed out she had called and let it ring but the machine never picked up. Now we have the twenty five year old rotary phone plugged in. It is nice, I can hear the person on the other end. Nobody gets to take the phone to the other room to hide or lose. I like it. It is comfortable to have the rotary phone back. I hope it stays.

11 Students Plotted To Kill Third-Grade Teacher
Student Had Job To Clean Blood, Says Teacher’s Relative
April 1, 2008
WAYCROSS, Ga. — Eleven students got together and plotted to kill their teacher, even going so far as to bring handcuffs and a knife to school, Waycross police said.
One of the teacher’s relatives said each child at Center Elementary School in Waycross had a job to do, including one assigned to wipe up the blood.
The plot unraveled over the weekend when a student tipped off police, Local 6 reported.
School officials said they never imagined that some of the 8- and 9-year-olds boys and girls at the school would think of bringing physical harm to a teacher, WJXT reported.

Mumsee,
Unfortunately, the Do Not Call list is not perfect. I still get calls, but I don’t think as many as I would without it. Because I don’t have anyone else to answer the phone when I don’t feel like it, I opted to also have caller ID. Now I glance to see who’s calling and, if it says “out of area” or “800 service,” I either let it go to the machine in the other room & erase it later or [more fun] click on the answer button then immediately hit the disconnect button. Yes, I realize it’s probably a robo-call and not a real person, but I still feel as if I have some control. I will answer if it says “private call,” because one of my girlfriends has caller ID blocking and I know it’s probably her.
Side note: my phone system is the kind that has everything in the hand set. I have several instruments because that’s how the set came, so I don’t have to search around or try to remember where I left it. The handsets also beep at me when their batteries are dying and that acts as a locater.

Kayvee,
Charities and political surveys and such are exempt from the DNC (hmmm…) list. Anybody else can be reported and theoretically you get money for the violations.

Oh, yeah–and companies you’ve done business with in the past as well as currently (grrr, AT&T) are exempt.

Thank you all a thousand times for the nice birthday wishes!!!! Although I had to work a transitional shift (12-8), my wife Helen and I celebrated it on Tuesday, my day off. It was relaxing, and quite fun.
Chas, my brother: You are a good and decent man. I always value your posts. NJLawyer is right, I AM a happy guy, because of what Jesus has done in my heart those 26+ years ago. That is why sometimes I come across as silly. Well, that, and my affection for British sitcoms, hahaahaaha. No reason anyone of any age can’t be silly at times. I just have a knack to find the silliness in life’s experience. I call it a godly gift.
Keep smiling, Chas…….it makes people wonder what in the world you’re up to next.
Mwahahahahahaa………
