I thought this is why the liturgical churches move (from the congregations perspective) the book containing the scripture readings from the right (liturgically South) to the left (liturgically North) at the reading of the gospel. The people rise at the reading of the gospel, in part, to signify their readiness to take the gospel to the unreached. The gospel moving from the "South" to the "North" recounts the direction of the missiionary movement of the gospel in the early church.
