American Airlines takes all its planes to the shop at the same time
Was anyone here scheduled for one of those 1,000 flights today that got cancelled by American Airlines? Want to complain, vent, and share stories of your pain and frustration without hurting yourself or your loved ones? I’d love to send you to a “Suggestion Box” for American, but I can’t. So instead, post your problems here. Me, I always fly Delta.

My best friend is currently in labor. I had booked this flight for this week a month ago. Then they rescheduled me and then cancelled that as well. Tonight I spoke to someone who said I had a confirmed flight on tomorrow’s 757 but when you go to print your ticket, it’s not confirmed so now I have to go there in person tomorrow. I’ve seen others talking about how advance warning would be nice etc. I think it’d be nice if they kept their planes in working condition continually, realize they’re ruining people’s vacations, trips, etc. and actually be a professional organization. That lady that they condemned weeks ago for being tacky at their award program, well maybe she just wasn’t so tacky after all.

Remember that it is much better to be on the ground working a problem than it is to be in the air wishing you were on the ground.
The Navy used to have a flying safety poster that read “If it’s not right on the ground it will only get worse in the air.” The photo was of an airplane canopy on the ground next to the hole the plane made.

I will NEVER, EVER, EVER fly American again.
When you get to the airport two hours early, and they (American) take so long fooling around with passengers not even flying out that day, that it gets me to the checkout counter too late to check my baggage through, and have to carry it to the gate, whereupon the silly TRS boys confiscate all the tools I put in my BAGGAGE (over $200 worth) so I wouldn’t have any PROBLEMS, and then tell me I could MAIL my stuff back home when they’re already calling my NAME over the INTERCOM, then I think American can stuff all their stupid problems in a really dark place and keep their stupid flights to themselves since they are so INCOMPETENT!
Now let me tell you how I REALLY feel…

My husband was stuck in Jacksonville yesterday and when he realized American had grounded all the planes they flew out of that city, he called his company reservation person and told her to put him on any other airline to get out of town.
American kept telling him to reschedule for the next day (today), he just had to spend the night. But he pointed out it would cost just as much money for his company to pay for him to spend the night as to buy a new ticket on another plane. Not to mention he had a full day of meetings today.
He also was suspicious they wouldn’t fly today either, which, of course, is exactly what happened. He flew home on Delta.
He got in at 1:15 this morning and was at work at 7:15–for nine hours of meetings. He’s exhausted but neither one of us can believe any company would do such a stupid thing–talk about ruining your reputation.
My husband, however, points out this is all a political ploy based on the FAA being in bed with the airlines for so long. Rather than do right by its customers and risk the wrath of Congress, American chose this route. Pun intended. Amazing.

This stems from the cozy relationship the FAA had with several carriers.
The govt was stupid enough to come out and say “several airlines are under investigation for safety violations” but then declined to name the violators.
Do those regulated by an agcy have any “privacy rights”? Is not the announcemt of an “investigation” likely to hurt airline stock price?

ZZ needs to come and tell us whose fault this is.

i’ll do it for him. deregulation and self-regulation. Of course that’s Bush’s fault.

Watch. The market will balance itself…. as those who like better service fly with someone else. I, like others, will only fly on Delta.

I fly Southwest when I can, but have been happy with Delta as well, I think. (It’s hard to remember who all is on my “never fly them again” list, but I don’t think Delta is.)

I like Southwest too, Cheryl. I usually can’t afford to fly Delta. My most recent experience with Delta wasn’t a good one, having a flight delayed, getting bumped b/c Delta grossly overbooked a flight, this happening as an entire terminal at the Atlanta airport was shut down due to someone cutting a power cable, and ultimately having to rent a car and drive 3 hours to be late to a meeting. The “Delta Dollars” that the airline provided as compensation, btw, were virtually useless since so many restrictions were placed on them.
BTW, I heard someone say once that Delta stands for “Doesn’t Ever Leave The Airport.”

Denver got their fuel act together midweek this week so that we could land on time instead of being rerouted to a near city for fuel. It was thrilling.

Chas, you know very well that this is all George Bush’s fault!
Also, since some of the people Delta inconvenienced were probably African-American, that means they are racists!

I don’t know, I’ve always flown American. I like them, I’ve never had any problems, and I don’t think I’d fly anything else.
That said, there’s always the little known magical phrase, “240 me.”
