Yes, it would be nice to have a recipe! There's a double frying or baking or whatever they do.

Believe it or not, the best I've had -- and they were approved by those in the know from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic -- were prepared by a Chinese restaurant. You might want to see if your local Chinese restaurant makes them.

NJ lawyer Yes I have! Without a doubt, a supreme dish.

WIGLAF, me neither. When I try at home, they're pithy, starchy, and without a trace of etheric delicacy.

I've had plantains the way Costa Ricans make them. Yes, they are delicious. I can't figure out how to do it. Perhaps the trouble is getting my hands on some good plantains. Maybe a 51st stater could chime in with some help here?

Getting back to the original question...
JUST A FEW EXCESSIVE EXPECTATIONS B.O. WILL NOT MEET
- HOPE for Ecomonic Properity: he will finish the job of destroying our economy by
+ raising taxes
+ using "global warming" as an excuse to add unnecessary and prohibitively restrictions and requirements (BTW, per NASA readings the earth's temp had remained steady for a decade or so and THE EARTH IS NOW COOLING)
+ shunting much needed economic resources to further wealth redistribution and
+ HOPE for safety and world peace by opening the doors to Islamofascist terrorism while insisting on having "dialogue" with them like Neville Chamberlain with Hitler -- instead of fighting them like Winston Churchill.
- HOPE for Reduced racial tension
- CHANGE to better the lot of the little man (proletariat for those of you Che Obama supporters)
+ statistically, the gap widens between the Haves and the Have-Nots during Dempocratic administrations
- HOPE for honesty and reduced corruptionGetting back to the original question...

"Take a poll in the US over Tony Blair vs Gordon Brown, and the most common response would be “Who?” "

That either proves that the US is more important to the world, by way of popular consensus, or that the average American is less informed about world politics than the average Briton (or both!).

And if so, what kinds of “excessive expectations” do you think he’ll face?

Let's not fool ourselves about the 51st state -- unfortunately it isn't Britain. There's no doubt that Barrak's biggest primary challenge on the way to the nomination, if not the election, is the state of Israel.

That's a "two for one" state. One state is Jewish Israel populated by Israelis there and Jews here with a bond to the dreams and realities of Israel. The other state is Christian Israel populated by apocalyptics here with a messianic agenda that terrifies politicians and makes even Jews nervous.

Barrak seems to be winning the primary. Jews have asked him to show himself a Mensch and tell them how much he loves Israel, the idea and justice of Israel, the romantic thrill of Jewish settlements, the premises of Zionism, and how little he cares about the paradoxes that shadow Israel's determination to defend itself as it sees fit, and how slightly he regards the cost to American reputation overseas. Barrak has gone down on his knees to answer the kishke question: Convince me that you love me so that if you ever hurt me, I'll know it won't matter, you didn't mean to. Obama is telling Jews in as many ways as he has fingers and toes how strongly he supports Israel. Even the warmonger Martin Peretz is praising Obama's "exhilarating experience with American Jews" and with their worries and dreams.

The general election will be tougher. Christian Israel will try to make hash of any Obama reference to a problem in the middle east in order to accuse him of saying something bad about Israel. Christian Israel will have us all tied up in knots. He'll just have to make the best of it, if he can.
