Sen. Kennedy diagnosed with malignant brain tumor
The Associated Press reports:
A cancerous brain tumor caused the seizure Sen. Edward M. Kennedy suffered over the weekend, doctors said Tuesday in a grim diagnosis for one of American politics’ most enduring figures. “He remains in good spirits and full of energy,” the doctors for the 76-year-old Massachusetts Democrat said in a statement.
They said tests conducted after the seizure showed a tumor in Kennedy’s left parietal lobe. Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma, they said.
His treatment will be decided after more tests but the usual course includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.
Our prayers go out to Sen. Kennedy and his family. May God give him strength and comfort as he battles this horrible disease.

It’s not what we were meant for. Any of us.
Pray him strength.

“May God give him strength and comfort as he battles this horrible disease.”
Amen.
Cancer is a horrible, vicious, evil disease. Too many people I know personally are afflicted by it.

This is an unhappy diagnosis. I hope his mind stays with him as long as possible. I pray the course of treatment is successful.

I’m surprised that his alcoholism didn’t get him first.
Much as I heartily disagree with his political views, I wouldn’t wish this disease on anyone.
I wish him well, and pray that God have mercy on him.

I, too am sorry about Ted Kennedy.
NJL, I have known two people with brain cancer. They didn’t survive long, a few months, but it didn’t affect their minds (mental capability).
I understand treatment is difficult.

I hope it doesn’t affect his mind. It’ll give him time with his family. That’s better than my mother’s Alzheimers.

From what I understand, from a “comfort” level, it’s about the best cancer to die from, if one must have terminal cancer. (It isn’t very painful.) I know someone who died of it, and that’s what her husband said, that it was bearable for her.

May God give comfort and healing to him and his family.

From Amy Carmichael:
No wound? No scar?
Yet, as the Master shall the servant be,
And pierced are the feet that follow Me;
But thine are whole. Can he have followed far
Who has nor wound nor scar?
That popped into my head when I read SG’s comment and thought I’d share it.
I pray that Senator Kennedy will see the Master in all His glory.

Not that it matters much, but it’s my understanding that malignancy in a brain tumor is almost a non-issue. That is, any brain tumor is deadly, not because it’s malignant but because any growth is devastating inside the skull. Even so, I agree that this is very sad.

Mommy, my sister had a benign (?) brain tumor a few decades ago (30+ years). She had an operation that left her deaf in one ear and little control on one side of her face. But it was not devistating. She is still around.

Our prayers go out to him for a full recovery at best, and at least, comfort and peace physically and spiritually.

My nephew died of a brain tumor–a glioblastoma. It was quick-growing and he suffered little.
All that I have read is that he has a glioma. Without knowing what kind of glioma, one cannot predict the outcome.
My heart goes out to him and to his family. Nobody should ever go through any kind of cancer. May God strengthen them all.

I wish him well and many years of happiness.

May Ted and his family find comfort in the God of us all at this most difficult time.

Three good comments before a gratuitous insult in #4. I’m impressed.
My prayers also with his family. He has lived a good, long life (especially considering how young his brothers were cut down) and is surrounded by a loving family. I will hope for his recovery, and for grace to accept the end of life if that is what must be instead.

May he rest in the comfort his Church offers, and the promise of Resurrection life.

My brother was 28 when he passed away from a multiforma glioblastoma. And then years later, my aunt died from the same form of cancer. They say it isn’t genetic, but it still strikes me as odd that it afflicted both my brother and aunt.
My heart goes out to the senator. I do hope that in some way his high profile case will result in more research.

Regardless of the Senator’s politics, we are to pray for him and his family during this difficult time. In fact all true believers in Christ are to obey the scriptures and pray for their government leaders regardless of whether we agree with them or not.

I pray for Sen. Kennedy and for the whole Kennedy family. I pray that they will all draw nearer to God during the days of his upcoming ordeal and if any of them are not saved that they will be. May the Lord give them all comfort.

Without doubt, Ted knows the path through these darkening waters.
As the greatest senator of the Century, he’s higher in our political pantheon than most of our presidents.

Citing The senator’s alcoholism and my disagreement with his political views is an insult?
This “insult” is hardly comparable to the not only gratuitous, but downright vicious and degrading insults that have been heaped upon the late conservative Christians named upon this blog…

I pray that Ted Kennedy will find comfort and knowledge in our Savior. I hope he doesn’t suffer.
My dear friends brother passed away from brain cancer just a few years ago. Very sad.

We had a wonderful lady in our church who had an internal form of melanoma what settled in her brain. She was such a wonderful sister. It was very painful for her. But before she passed away, she addressed our congregation and quoted the book of Job. “though He slay me, yet shall I praise Him. (Job 13:15)

I heard on the news this evening that Kennedy will not be giving the commencement speech this weekend (I think the school was Wellesley), but Obama agreed to make the speech for him. That’s nice.
