A quote from kid’s author Remy Charlip:
A man was locked out of his house and couldn’t get out. However, he knew he would. He hit the wood until his hands were sore. He sawed the wood in half. Two halves make a whole. He shouted through the hole until his voice was hoarse. He jumped on the horse, rode through the would and got home safely.

From my earlier post yesterday.
Ever stopped to consider all the “wink wink” laws we have? And how winking at some laws sends such a bad message to kids? Sure its wrong to hire illegals, but (wink wink) I’m getting a huge deal on this new roof, yard landscape etc.
Gals should not be sent off into combat. Keep them in purely support roles where they won’t face frontline battle. But wait a minute! This war truly has no front line. Truck drivers, MPs, vehicle parts clerks like Jessica Lynch.. they’re all on de facto frontlines! But lets maintain the fiction of having jobs restricted for women’s safety (wink wink)
And my favorite is: If you hold your primary in advance of Davenport Iowa or Dixville Notch NH we won’t count your votes! (wink wink) But wait! I need those votes now, so lets rescend the earlier rule we were so danged adamant about.

What I really want to know is if KBells son has hit the road or have his plans changed on reflection.

NJ, As of last night he had reconsidered California and North Carolina but was now thinking about going to Texas or Florida. I might not should have gotten him that state map puzzle.

KBells, it’s never a mistake to get a kid interested in maps.

New facts about the FLDS case in Texas:
1. 15 of the “underage” mother have now been proven to be adults
2. The 3rd District Court of Appeals has ruled in the cases of 38 mothers that the state should not have removed their chidlren from their homes
I have been writing about the case on my blog, if anyone is interested to follow it. Most of the big news agencies are keeping up-to-date, as well.

Kimberly, I haven’t been on much in the last couple of days (class all day Wed; catching up on work yesterday); I didn’t see your “virtual victory dance” until this morning. I’m not sure if using Google to determine the candidates is fair play, though! Actually, I had wanted to vote for Keyes a while back, but didn’t think he was going to qualify anywhere. Then, a day or so before the election, when I was looking over the ballots, I was pleased to see his name. I got to be one of about only 2000 people to vote for him (Fox News’ online coverage of the results didn’t even have his name listed!).

TJ, thanks for voting for Alan Keyes.

KBells, my brothers used to run away regularly. They usually weren’t gone long even when they were older. One time when they were a lot older than your son, they ran away and stayed over night in a big abandoned barn just down the road. My folks knew they were there. I’m not sure if they saw them or one of the neighbors talked. At any rate if being hungry doesn’t drive you home, the mosquitoes will, sooner or later.

All of us kid’s decided to run away at one time or another. My mother would throws some cloths and toys in a grocery bag, we would go across the street to play with a friend and forget why we were mad or get so many conflicting directions to Grandma house that we’d give up. So, when my younger sister declared she had had enough and was leaving, my mother did what she usually did and handed her her stuff and opened the door. After awhile though she began to realize that this one wasn’t coming back. My brother and I had to go get her. She was a good half a mile down the road.

I ran away once – and never went back. Actually my Dad sat my twin and I down right before we graduated from High School and asked if we wanted to go to college. We said sure, you bet. He said that he though we should go to college too and recommended we get a job since he wasn’t going to pay for it – and he didn’t.
He also said that once HS was over, we couldn’t live at home any more either but he expected us to come home and visit our momma at least a least a year as good boys would want to do.
I asked my Dad if Mom knew that we were being thrown out of the house and he said with a smile on his face ‘I’m telling her you both must have ran away from home together’
We never went back. My younger brother did live at home during the summer while he was at college but he did pay his own way to school.
I told my wife I was going to do the same with our daughter as my Dad did with me. A smile came over my wife’s face and she said ‘Good, then we can shoot you dead and not feel bad about it when the jury let’s us off.’
Wimin!!!!

KBells it might be time for a re-reading of the Runaway Bunny.
I just got back from my dad’s. He has cancer. He sees another doctor next week and we will go from there.

Kim, I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad. I’ll pray for him and for wisdom for his doctors.

The Runaway Bunny was/is my favorite childhood book. I got my mom another copy for Mother’s Day a few years ago. She read it to me again just last summer (I’m 31, btw) before we moved away.
Kim,
Praying for your dad.

It was reported today that the total deficit per year going forward forever, just for the entitlement programs of Social Security and Medicare was approximately 9% of GDP or about 1.29 Trillion dollars per year. The entire US budget this year is $3 Trillion. So this represents an additional 43% increase in Government spending to save these programs, not including the $800 million in non entitlement additional spending proposed by Obama. Adding Obama’s hope for change spending brings the total to $2 trillion in additional government spending next year or an increase of 66%.
To balance the budget and pick up the the estimated existing 400 billion tax shortfall for next year already projected before any more additional spending, taxes will have to go up an additional 13% So the entire socialist tax increase to do what they say they will do next year requires a total tax increase of 79%.
Now, since only half of Americans currently pay any tax at all, the real tax increase for those that do pay taxes today is 168%. So look at what you paid last year and multiply it by 2.68 to get where the socialists are taking you on your wish, hopes, dreams and prayers.
The both entire rounds of the Bush tax cuts, not just for the rich but for everyone) is only $130 billion per year. So the idea that rescinding the Bush tax cuts for only the rich and giving it to the middle class instead will somehow pay for any of this is …eeerrr…..insane…depending on what is is but, we expect that from socialists and know their economic prowess and ability to add is limited at best.

John McSame threw Evangelical Pastor Rod Parsley’s endorsement under the Flip-Flop Express. Wonder why McCain attracts these weirdo religious fanatics?

TJ– I’m not sure if using Google to determine the candidates is fair play, though!
I just wanted to know my options (didn’t even know he was still running).
But I will eat a virtual boiled peanut to compensate.
I live in the Midwest, so I am generally miles away from any real boiled peanuts.

You been eating magic mushrooms in your grass, Llama?
McCain SOUGHT Parsley’s endorsement. And he introduced Parsley by saying: “I am very honored today to have one of the truly great leaders in America today. A moral compass, a spiritual guide, Pastor Rod Parsley.” (crowd cheers) “I want to say, thank you for being here. I want to thank you, Rod, for your kind introduction. For your leadership and your guidance, I am very grateful you’re here. And I want to assure you, he [Parsley] should be talking, not me.”
Insane. Both of them. Does McCain vet any of these religious wackos?

Does McCain vet any of these religious wackos?
Of course he does. Why, he was a member of Parsley’s church for 20 years. He’s been a faithful giver, including one gift of over $20K. Parsley led him to Jesus, married John and Cindy, baptized their children, and…..
wait a sec. Perhaps I have the wrong candidate in mind.

Did McSame have a religious marriage? He had an affair with an heiress now his current one while married to to the first one. You know. The one who stayed true all those years while waiting for him to return from the POW camp. Guess she let herself go or something.

Kim, I’m sorry to hear about your dad. Am praying for you both and your stepmom.
Llama, I know a woman who regularly tells her teenaged boys that they’ve got until their 18th birthday to get it together and learn to support themselves because they are out of her house. I couldn’t do it, but she seems bent on it. (She’s also African-American.)
KBells, keep us informed.

Hey ya’ll! Haven’t been around in a while. I’m sure I was sorely missed…I’m not sure what’s been going on with everyone, but several of you have been on my mind these last few weeks. I hope all has been well here!! The past few weeks have been incredibly hectic for our family. It will considerably slow down by the end of next week, praise the Lord! I’ve also been given the possibility of some work from home, which I am praying about.
Just wanted to check in and say hello!

#25 NJLawyer,
I’m not sure what race has to do with it but my dad put 3 boys through college on $60 total (having given us each $20 to buy our first beers at college).
I told my dad the bible says to take care of your children and honor your parents – not the other way around.
There is no reason a healthy normal average child can’t leave home at 18 and easily make their own way in the world. It was that way for centuries.
I can see where coddled children with little; confidence, education, good character attributes and self esteem would easily fail at doing so though.

Am almost ready for China: house and baggage in order. Considering how overwhelmingly tired I have been, it’s a supernatural feat.
Thank you all for praying.
I get homesick because I love my home and family and husband. I do ask for prayer on that front, please.
Also,
Today was my son’s last day of High School!
He made a presentation and then it was over!
We all went to see Indiana Jones.
Later, we took him to dinner to the restaurant of his choice: Olive Garden. (Not my favorite, but this wasn’t about me.)
After dinner, we upgraded him to a nice cell phone and then bought him Asics (sp.) for his training.
He is working towards his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL. He views graduating H.S. as one obstacle conquered!
