Bye-bye, Bill … and Hil?
According to NBC and ABC News, Bill Clinton began a speech in South Dakota today saying (video here):
“I want to say also that this may be the last day I’m ever involved in a campaign of this kind. I thought I was out of politics, ’til Hillary decided to run. But it has been, one of the greatest honors of my life to go around and campaign for her for president.”
Does this signal the beginning of the end for Hillary Clinton? The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder offers some other telling clues here and here. Of course, Clinton aides deny that she’ll drop out tomorrow.
Meanwhile, USA Today reports: “Hillary Clinton has sent out a fundraising pitch called “The last two races,” asking people to contribute $5 to help her get out the vote tomorrow in South Dakota and Montana.

Does this mean he won’t campaign for Obama?

Vintage Bill Clinton. Note all the use of personal pronounds referring to himself.
A polical cartoon that circulated ten years ago caught this theme. The puch line reversed the famous words of Nathan Hale and had Clinton saying, “I regret that I only have one country to give for my life.”

It is not bye-bye to Hillary it is only so long.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out Hillary hopes Obama loses so she can run again in 2012.
She is too ornery to go away quietly.
But it has to be especially galling for Hillary to lose to a man most people had never heard of until a few years ago.

A few years ago my husband predicted that one day Hillary would be appalled to find herself the has- been, old fogey to a younger, more liberal opponent. I didn’t expect to see it so soon.

What is the definition of “this kind?” It’s too bad he didn’t say “any” instead of “this.” I’m sure the definition of “any” would have been up for speculation as well, though. Hey, anyone who can argue the definition of “is” should have his words subject to careful analysis.

Well, I’m not ready to call it yet. I know the blogosphere is on fire with people calling it. Not me. Until I hear the words “But now we must come together for the good of the Democratic Party and give our full support to Senator Obama…”
While the Clinton’s may be many things, they are loyal Democrats, and they will support the nominee. They will both be given a speaking role at the Convention, and they will both enthusiastically endorse the nominee. They will be given the royal treatment, and then they will be quietly ushered out to make room for the coronation of Obama. They will return to the platform after his acceptance speech in a show of unity. Whether it’s the Democrats or the Republicans – that’s how it’s done.

LOLOLOL, Anlir. You’re to young to remember convention of the past, aren’t you! Unfortunately for everyone, that is NOT how it’s routinely done.

I think the Clintons are only loyal to the the “CLINTONS!”

To borrow a line from the country song from a few years back (”The Highwayman” which featured Willy Waylon Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash):
“But I’ll be back again and again and again and again..”

The Theodore White of our day will no doubt chronicle what a vast liability Bill was to his wife’s campaign.
Hannity mentioned the possibility of a long-suppressed video/audio of Michelle Obama harping about “whities”. I wonder if that clip–WHICH MAY NOT EXIST– isnt the secret weapon the Clintonistas have ready to detonate should it become necessary to do so?

Rich Lowry wrote in an op-ed today, regarding Bill Clinton:
“For a man blessed with so much talent, fame and riches, Clinton has always had an unparalleled ability to see himself as beset by cosmic unfairness.”

Sawgunner: If the Clintons had control over that alleged video, it’d already be out … holding it back would make no sense if showing it might persuade the remaining voters and the superdelegates to nominate HRC.
The rumor I’ve heard is that Republicans have it and want Obama to get the nomination so they can use it against him.
I don’t think it exists, myself. I think some are hoping that just starting a whisper campaign alluding to it will be enough to hurt him in the general election.

To Steve and Sawgunner
I had the rumor about Michelle Obama myself. Normally I don’t go in for conspiracy type rumors except:
1) It certainly would not be out of character for Ms. Obama to say that.
2) Remember a few days ago when Barack told the media to stay away from Michelle?
3) The person who would originally have that video would be the Rev. Wright. After Obama threw him overboard Wright might seek some revenge or financial gain.
