Distinctions with dignity
“The Church does not feel authorized to change the will of its founder Jesus Christ,” said Monsignor Angelo Amato, speaking last Friday in response to recent renegade ordinations of women to the priesthood. The
In these times, when dignity is taken to be synonymous with radical equality, the clamor of women to possess every last benefit bequeathed on a man need not even be argued from Scripture; the right is thought to be “self-evident.”
Not to everyone, I should confess. When I became a Christian, one of the first things my brother said was, “You realize, don’t you, that this means you’ll have to submit to your husband.” Whether he was being snotty or instructive doesn’t matter. It didn’t bother me at all. “Look, I just stepped down from being “god” to being a creature. I figure I can come down one more inch.”
It’s God’s prerogative to make distinctions among people, and he does it throughout the Bible. Out of all mankind, He chose the Israelites. Out of the Israelites, only the Levites were allowed to be priests. Out of the Levites, only the Kohathites were allowed to care for the sanctuary. But even they might not touch the sacred articles, but only Aaron and his sons.
Speaking for myself, I’m just so glad to be included anywhere in God’s kingdom. I would rather be a doorkeeper there than the CEO anywhere else, wouldn’t you?

Oh yes.
God has given blessings to the earth as a whole: sunshine and rain, families, sleep, food and water, and much more. The beauties of His good earth and the joys of human love.
But how much richer it is when we know it comes from our Father. And when our loving Father says, “This is what I require,” it is not burdensome. Every day we see around us the results in the lives of those who do not follow His way. For countless people, personal choices at odds with God’s law bring misery for themselves and for others. On the topic of this thread, the feminists I’ve known (even the “evangelical feminists”–I have known several fairly well) are not contented people. They are coveting what God has not given, and what would not make them happy if God did give it. The longer they remain grasping and justifying, the angrier and more discontent they grow. They think their problem is with “the church,” which is bad enough as it is Christ’s body, but their real problem is with the Head.
Let me be a doorkeeper if that is God’s position for me. Let me be a woman with a limited role in the church (and a different role in the family). Let me be single (and childless and sexually pure). Let me have less financially than others in my circle. As long as I have His smile, all these other things are mere details.

Beautifully said, Cheryl.
God gives us each a role to play, & wants us to live accordingly. We are the ones who decide to “rate” those roles, not God. He says we are all equal in Christ Jesus.

Tragic that this post would only elicit five comments.
Tragic, too, that none are men (unless I’ve miss ID’ed Magwah).
The great Jacobian wrestling match pitting creature against Creator. Not a good place to be. Far better to yield to the hand of the One who will wield you nimbly than with a bum hip.
