Kimberly

Women have been repeatedly identified as key players in the development of emerging (or struggling) economies. E.g. the development of micro-loan programs was originally centered on women's groups in Bangladesh. In Africa the issues of women's education/schooling is vital for the advancement of health concerns.

Understandably, such an emphasis on women can create tension in traditional cultures, and in religiously shaped societies. Thus, while helping women can be a significant step towards improving prospects in society, it also must be done with nuance, subtlety and consideration. That's why it's such a big problem.

WIGLAF,

By starting the Anti Global Consensus where the only thing on the list is - Stop talking about the facts of the problems we do not agree on in the first place and do something to fix them instead?

What the The Copenhagen Consensus is doing is presenting a series of facts. We know these are facts because there is a consensus. Consensus equals facts. The question is how do we stop global consensus?

John M. - except for global warming; that should probably be broadened to "global climate changes" as too much change in either direction would likely cause major disturbances.

I don't know if these are in order of importance or not but I say "conflicts" should go straight to the top of the list. How many people were killed in wars the last century or killed by their own government? Hundreds of millions (think WWI, WWII, Stalin, Red China, etc.) Air pollution is a longer-term issue but if everyone is killed off in wars no one will be alive to get lung cancer in 20 years anyway.

Looks like a list of the same things that have troubled mankind since the dawn of history.

The group's name sounds like the title of a spy novel. What kind of group names themselve a "Consensus"?
