In our “Have It Your Way” mentality, this is a tough concept to grasp, but it is so like God to have unmeasurable patience with us, with His Creation.
We are like the whining child being cuddled by her mother in an emergency waiting room – wanting to run and play, wanting a candy bar, wanting to be anywhere else, but the reality is that they are waiting for the doctor because the child is sick, dying from a disease – sin – and the medicine is Christ on the Cross.
It is a bitter medicine because we have to admit our illness…but we would rather play.
Yet the mother continues to hold and cuddle and encourage and discipline until the medicine takes hold and we are healed.

Our legacy of liberty:

I have always had the grace to handle the elephants that come my way. You get lots of support w/ elephants from loved ones. Many people pray for you and minister to you. I’m only just now after forty years walking with God beginning to learn the patience to deal with the gnats.

Deb, what do you mean by Elephants? As a Bama fan and a republican I don’t have a problem with elephants.
Report comment to moderator
Hi, all.
I have been very sick and very busy and very unlucky, an inexpressibly horrible combination.
Hence, like a modern-day Rip Van Winkle, I am not up on current events here on WMB.
Being sick when not busy is not so bad.
Being busy when not sick is fine.
But being very sick AND very busy at the SAME time is TERRIBLE.
And then throw an enormous dollop of ill-luck in on top of all that.
Ill luck as in:
Badly wrenched knee from unadvisably hopping off a tractor (unadvisable because, in a fit of exuberance at the thought of supper, I hopped off like I used to thirty or forty years ago – instead of slowly and carefully and deliberately crawling off the thing),
Wrecked machinery,
Utterly obstinate grown and nearly grown up children who stupidly continue to do what I DO, instead of what I SAY,
Catastrophic and simultaneous failure of well pump AND septic system during visit of brother-in-law and his one hundred and fifty three children and his indescribable and absolutely unique WIFE – a sort of harpee or banshee that would make the fiercest Viking drop his axe, turn pale as a ghost and frantically scamper for his longship,
Snake-bite in an embarrasing place on my carcass that I cannot see without the use of a complex system of mirrors and a flashlight.
That sort of thing.
And then, in the middle of it all, my wife abandoned me, too. She went to cook at some ‘disadvantaged’ childrens camp for over a week – and left me to starve. Which I think is a direct violation of our marriage oath, which I am pretty sure had her say something about keeping me properly fed (and de-loused) for the duration of my days.
So you see I have an excellent excuse for my absence.
Anyway, how is Lynn Vincent? And all of you?
Well, I hear sirens wailing and helicopters overhead and dogs clucking and chickens howling outside once again, so I will have to check back here later, if we don’t have a tornado which carries me to Oz or something like that.
I hope not, as I am pretty sure that I would make an absolutely TERRIBLE Dorothy, both in terms of dress AND temperment.

Were Christopher Taylor and random name booted?

Not that I’ve been on this blog very much at all since last December, Saw, but didn’t Random say he would be taking a sabbatical at the beginning of the year from posting on a Christian blog?

Welcome Back Drill!!! We’ve missed our DrillBits! So glad you’re back.

Drill,
Sorry to hear of your ills!! Hope things are looking up.
Sawgunner,
I think Random’s sabbatical was meant to last for 6 months, so he might be back soon.
You can always check in on him at his blog here.

KBells, so sorry that you are a Bama fan. I know you can’t help it and I certainly didn’t mean to offend! BTW, I watched the episode of Mary Tyler Moore last night when the elephant did away with Chuckles the Clown. Elephants can attack w/o warning and cause much harm.
Maybe I should have said rhinos? Would that have been better

Yes, Deb, I know we haven’t had a good season…in a while… in a decade or so, but I believe if you’re going to be a fan in the good times you have to be a fan in the bad times. It doesn’t help that I’m married to an Auburn fan. We struggle for the soul of the child daily. At the moment he goes around saying “Roll Eagle”.

Dang, Drill, I thought I had problems. Like right now, I don’t know what to wear to Bible school. All my fellow workers are like 18 years old and I’m very aware that a bad fashions statement would be much more noticeable in size 14 than it would in size 4.

Drill, Glad to hear from you. We’ve been wondering and asking ourselves, “Where is Drill?” You’ve missed some golden opportunities. I hope you have the strength to catch up.

Please keep me in prayer this week. I received some sad and glad news. My uncle who is a WWII veteran will not live through the week. He and my Aunt helped raise me when I was little. He is a believer and told his family that he is looking forward to going home to be with Jesus and getting the opportunity to see his brother, my mom and grandmother. He is the last of my uncles. I will miss him and I will especially miss his humor. I will miss you Uncle Dubby.

Maybe we could follow KBELLS lead and make fun of ourselves over our insignificant problems. Like mine right now is trying to decide whether to have a banana or an orange juice for my 10:00 snack. I also had to clean up cat puke from the floor this morning.

Well, dang. I posted as Joe was and now feel badly about making light of our problems. I’m sorry, Joe. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

[I was writing as Joe posted, and see it now that I'm doing preview. I'm going to post anyway, in response to Drill's post. I hope no one thinks I'm being inappropriately light. But humor does help us get through life, and we appreciate Drill for that.]
Drill,
I can relate to the knee part. Four years ago I made the mistake of jumping off the deck into the back yard, rather than going to the other side of the deck where the stairs were. After all, it was only two or three feet down, and I easily jumped that distance every year off the back of a school bus in elementary school when we had emergency training – and the ground was a lot further away back then.
I realized in midair that it might not have been a good idea, as there might be rocks or a hole under the mass of dead leaves. But I came down solidly and thought, well, that’s a relief. Then I kept on going down, as my left knee (injured in a bicycle accident when I was 22, and was looking at street signs so I didn’t get lost three blocks from my new home again, instead of looking at my landlady’s granddaughter on the bike in front of me which had just stopped) decided to let me know I was an idiot to think I could do at 42 what I did easily at 8.
I was in too much pain to yell loudly enough for anyone to hear me, so I had to crawl around the deck, up the steps, and into the house. Normally my husband would no doubt have taken care of me, probably insisted on taking me to the emergency room – but he had just come home the night before after having major surgery, and I was supposed to be taking care of him. So I hobbled around with a cane for a few weeks, until I could merely limp around without the cane.
Now I know not to try to act like I’m young and limber. When the rest of the adults sit on the floor with the kids at church, I grab a chair. (I made the mistake of sitting on the floor last week, I forget why, and had to have someone help me get up.)

Drill,
Glad you are back. Sounds like a good excuse for being gone. The worst one is that wife of yours abandoning you.
Joe, Our prayers go out for you. What comfort our Savior brings to us in these times. What comfort in knowing loved ones will be with Jesus.

Drill, It’s good to hear from you. We were wondering. Now if Llama and AJISUUN will just check in. We haven’t heard from Christopher Taylor in some time.
KBells, I’m with you about Auburn. I hate Tigers of any stripe. Problem is, you’re also a Bama fan. I couldn’t imagine an intelligent person being a Bama fan, but any of it’s better than Clemson. (I recently voted to call a Clemson guy as pastor!) Almost as bad as a Georgia fan.
GO GAMECOCKS!
Joe B. I’ll be praying for you. Two of my wife’s brothers were WW II veterans. It’s sad to see them go.
Mommy, you have exactly one minute to decide. Choose the banana. The juce will be gone as soon as you drink it. No help at all.
GO!

Yeah, Chas, but it’s actually orange-pineapple – my FAVORITE! Or, I could have both. Got caught up in an ad hoc meeting so have to decide RIGHT NOW.

Well, today is the big day at least as far as Democrats go. It’s like the last day of school before summer.
I suspect the Clinton camp is nervous/worried. Is it the end of a long ride? Will a miracle occur and she pull it out a win in MT and SD? She has summoned her campaign staff to New York tonight for an important speech. It must be difficult to prepare for two speeches and not knowing for certain which one you will be giving. “You got any Xanax?” is probably the question of the day in Clinton land.
I suspect the Obama camp is anxious/excited. Does Obama carry a list in his pocket of the Super Delegates who will put him over the top after the polls close tonight? Will he be able to claim the nomination tonight? Is this really the end?
For regular folk, we wonder if it will finally be over tonight. Six months of primaries is a long time and we’re kinda tired. We’d like it to end so we can have a few months off to enjoy the summer.
Personally, I am thrilled no matter who wins. I doubt I will get to bed before 1 a.m.

Welcome back Drill! Sorry you’ve been going through a rough patch and I hope it’s passed. The thing about older knees, though, is that they never seem to really get well once injured. I know from experience.
Mommy, if it’s not too late to suggest, eat the banana and save the juice to have with lunch.
Joe: My prayers are with you and your family. The hard part about becoming your family’s older generation is living without the love and wisdom of those you always counted on.

KBELLS–
Your church could just go with the VBS fashion style that our church has. We all wear neon green T-shirts about a size too big (which means nobody has to worry about style)!

I had the juice; it was great. The banana will keep until tomorrow. I have a Snapple Peach Ice Tea (diet) to drink with lunch. As Jack Sparrow (CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow) would say, “No worries, then.”

UBS, a Swiss bank for which McCain’s Lobbyist Campaign Co-Chair Phil Gramm lobbied, is now under investigation for alleged use of overseas tax havens to hide assets of its wealthy clients from U.S. authorities — while in office, Gramm also supported these tax havens after 9/11, which hampered the government’s ability to track Osama bin Laden’s financial network before 9/11.
John McCain doesn’t vet his lobbyists/staff very well.

Kimberly, a lot of them were wearing the neon green tee shirts, but they were wearing them with capris and we really don’t want to get into another capri discussion on here. Are y’all doing Outrigger Island. They put me in with three year olds and we’re just in “keep them alive till their mother comes” mode in there.

Chas, when my husband and I were dating he was CEC and I was Baptist. He offered to convert to Baptist if I would convert to Auburn. I ask my pastor, a fellow Baptist fan, about it and he said it wouldn’t be worth it.

Who would have guessed the Bush administration would politicize scientific research on climate change by appointing a 24 year old campaign worker with no college education to run the NASA Public Affairs Office? Of course they did. His name was George C. Deutsch.
NASA’s Inspector General has reviewed the Bushie’s work.
“Our investigation,” the report said, “found that during the fall of 2004 through early 2006, the NASA Headquarters Office of Public Affairs managed the topic of climate change in a manner that reduced, marginalized or mischaracterized climate change science made available to the general public.”
The report said most evidence supported contentions that politics was “inextricably interwoven” into operations at the public affairs office in that period and that the pattern was inconsistent with the statutory responsibility to communicate findings widely, “especially on a topic that has worldwide scientific interest.”

KBELLS: Three-year olds can be tough little cookies, can’t they? I’ve done children’s church and seen five year olds go crawling around under chairs to avoid you. At least you’ll get your exercise ….
We’re doing a program from Answers in Genesis, centered around the gospel and around (gasp!) creation.

Please pray for my little girl. She is so sick right now with a very high fever, and just lethargic. Her little face is gray, and she just lies around, bless her heart. As my fourth, I know what to look for as far as whether she should go to an ER, but she is borderline on seeing a doctor. Problem is, the dr is an hour away (which would cost how much in gas to get there???), and she has no insurance…I know it sounds terrible to deliberate about taking a child to the doctor for those reasons, but…I’m sure some of you can relate. Thanks, ya’ll.
Blessings….

Said a prayer for your daughter. It’s a shame that money should be an obstacle to getting medical treatment. Keep an eye on her and encourage fluid intake.

Chas,
I’m back from Cabo. Weather was great, fishing was fair, eating fish and real Mexican food was fantastic (still lost 6 pounds), only spent $57 on stuff including 2 bottles of Vanilla (the good kind), a Cabo hat and t-shirt, special smoked ancho chili powder and a large bottle of Tequila that my wife gave a way to the lady who watched the Doxie Dog while we were away.
Daughter surprisingly had a great time on the beach eating fish tacos for lunch every day and she did ride in one of those parafoil, small gasoline engine airplane things that landed right on the beach. She said she wanted to scare her mother to death from a great height but, I must admit, that it looked like a fine time too and I might need to get one just to fly around looking cool and keeping my wife on the…..eeerrrrr…. edge.
My wife had a good time too and thanked me for not ruining her vacation BY BUYING A TIME SHARE OR A BOAT OR ONE OF THOSE PARAFOIL THINGS
Sorry to hear about your uncle Joe B. Prayers are with you.

Momoffour – My prayers are with you, too.
We didn’t have insurance for much of our daughters’ childhoods. We found that doctors & hospitals were very willing to help with a payment schedule.
Beware of dehydration, which can be dangerous. My older daughter had to be hospitalized at age 2 due to that. She’d had a high fever & diarrhea, & I couldn’t get her to drink cuz her throat hurt.
Can you call a friend to go with you to the doctor, to hold your hand, so to speak?

Anlir – Newsflash! You’ll still get to know the results even if you go to bed early. They won’t keep them from you the next morning. And you’ll get a good rest, too!
(Can you tell I’m past the age of staying up late?)

Joe B, my sympathies and prayers. You know your Uncle Dubby will always be with you.
MomofFour, I hope your little one is faring better now at the end of the day. NJ has a program that even if the parents aren’t covered, the children can get health care. I don’t know what state you’re in, but you might want to look into that.
