HRW- Excellent point. I wish the GOP had as much sense instead of doing short term fixes that could have negative long term effects!

We just moved into an “fixer-upper” home, and used the money to buy a few much-needed tools.
The cash was a blessing, and our house is a little better for it.

We actually got one at our address that had someone else’s name on it. After 8 years living in this house, I’d never seen this name before. No one listed in the phone book with that last name, so I found our local IRS office and turned it in. Was worried that perhaps ours had gone elsewhere, but thanks for the above link; looks like we’ll be among the last to get ours.

Government efficiency. There’s an appropriate oxymoron.

I’m amused — the american gov’t borrows money from the Chinese to give to Americans so they can purchase cheap goods made in china — who’s economy is being stimulated? Also when did the Republican party adopt Kenysian economic principles?

OK, regarding the $2,600 vet bill — not that I’m feeling defensive here, but here’s the deal: this is a young, very lively dog (under 2 years old, and I’d had her all of 3 months) who became very suddenly lethargic and then violently ill (2 words, projectile vomiting) over a weekend (of course, when else to they get that sick?). Quite honestly, I figured we’d get some antibiotics and be on our way, but noooo, 3 days of hospitalization (if I’d had a gun, I may have just used it on myself after I saw the estimate!)

Pet insurance is going to become a necessity for many of us. But that being said, I completely agree that pet owners need to learn how to say ‘no’ in this day and age of human-quality, sophisticated medical care that’s now available for our pets.

Ellie, my beloved shaggy dog of many years whom I adopted from the city shelter — healthy all her life — was diagnosed with lymphoma in January and I chose not to treat. She was nearly 14 years old, the treatment would only buy her time, not a cure. I had her euthanized 2 weeks later. I miss her terribly still, but I don’t regret the decision. But only the owner can make that call. And it ain’t ever easy.

My husband is self-employed, so the day after we got our $1200.stimulus check, we had an ES 1040 tax payment due within a few days for $1190.00. That’s what we did with the stimulus check!!

Scott, that’s a good problem to have. Seriously, why is there a cap on so-called stimulus. You can spend cash just as well as anyone else, imho.

Wow. I was surprised that no one on the blog (that i briefly skimmed over) mentioned that they went on vacation. I thought there would be a lot more. Now i feel a twinge of guilt-but just a twinge. We took our 4 kids on a long overdue trip to see the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Colorado via Big Thompson Canyon and Estes Park, coming from Kentucky. Possibly the last one as a complete fam with the 4 kids…2 in college 2 in high school. Tough to schedule as life gets more complicated. Highlight of the trip was driving up to the Continental Divide and looking at the majestic mountains that “melt like wax” in the presence of the Lord. It was a Rocky Mountain high and humbling at the same time. Trusting that we made a memory that will be cherished for a lifetime.

If you file over here, I would think you’d qualify, since I doubt your income is over the limit! That’s the only restriction I’ve heard placed on it. But you do have to file. If you did, check out the site listed above for clarification (when the internet is behaving!)

I haven’t figured out yet if I qualify for one. Missionaries make too much money, you know. Just kidding. Since all of my income is exempted as foreign earned income, I don’t know if I qualify. I have received the notices, but I think I’ll just be pleasantly surprised if I get one and go on as normal if I don’t. Since I go on furlough next year and will need a car, I will probably put it into my car fund if I get it.
