Happy Fourth of July!
Today’s quote is from a patriotic movie: “It seems it always happens. Whenever we get too high-hat and too sophisticated for flag-waving, some thug nation decides we’re a push-over all ready to be blackjacked. And it isn’t long before we’re looking up, mighty anxiously, to be sure the flag’s still waving over us.”

The quote is from Yankee Doodle Dandy. James Cagney. A fun movie.

Our legacy of liberty:
This quote is from a distant relative of mine:
“When tyrants ask you to yield one jot of your liberty, and you consent thereto, it is the first link forged in the chain that will eventually hold you in bondage.” Sam Houston (1793 – 1863), soldier, Tennessee Congressman, Presidet of Texas.

Joel- Are you saying that since 9/11 we are succumbing to tyranny?
Hope everyone enjoys the day off. Remember to clean up your picnic site and leave it cleaner than when you arrived. Be careful with the fireworks, especially in dry areas. And please, if you are shooting them off at your house, be sure to pick up the big leftover pieces that litter the streets and neighbors’ yards!

Interesting Jefferson quote, Joel Mark! (Actually, all your quotes are good for the day.)
Happy Fourth of July — it’s not just a picnic or a trip to the shore. Take a minute, salute the flag, and thank God for all we have. Have a great day.

“A democracy will survive until people discover that they can vote themselves benefits from the national treasury.” Unknown
We went to the parade today.

Joel, I love your quotes. The one from Sam Houston should be remembered by everyone, VERY TRUE, it hits the mark.
Thomas Jefferson quote made so long ago fits the ticket in this election year. I wonder what Jefferson would say today, so many years later?

Speaking of B’days. Even though some just continue to call it a mere distraction, the Obama birth cert. questions linger. The one on Daily Kos has now been proven a fraud. When will BO admit to the fraud, and release the real one? And why has he gone along with the forgery? What doesn’t he want seen?

Victoria,
Your gonna love it! But Steve won’t.

Inquiring minds want to know how Peter Leavitt did in the morning foot race. A good time? Personal best? or fun run with the family?
Around here, the parade went off ok. The kids floats were pretty fun. Even had a roller-skating gorilla.
Our patriotic speaker — the chief of police — alas, was not very inspiring. Mostly “thank you for being here” A beat officer, not an administrator, obviously.
We’ve been doing touch-up painting then off to the beach.

For those of you who pray, Sunday night I’m having dinner with the lady with “terminal” breast cancer who has so far opted to avoid surgery, thinking that somehow at this point her “natural” treatments will kick in and cure her (though they haven’t done so in the couple of years so far).
She’s usually fairly open with me in person. Could you all please pray that I’d say whatever God would have me say, and otherwise keep my mouth shut? That I’d love her well and possibly (if it’s appropriate) find out whatever is behind her rejection of surgery and possibly take her a step or two toward reality? I may be one of the people with the best shot at this, because I have built a relationship of trust through the years, and I think her pride is less likely to get in the way with me than with some other people close to her. (It’s hard for her to “admit” that the natural treatment has failed; I think her pride is involved since she was so sure she was making the right choice, to leave the lumps and just do the rather extreme “natural” things, diet and cleansing agents and all that.)

Another thing, Obama became a Kenyan citizen on December 12, 1963, five months AFTER he was born in Hawaii?

Look, I am in no way an Obama supporter, but I still cannot see what difference his religion on the birth certificate says. As long as he was born on American soil, with at least one American parent, he is eligible and qualified to run for POTUS constitutionally. If he wants to change religions, it is his business.
Report comment to moderator
Peter his religion on the Birth Certificate isn’t the issue.
Report comment to moderator
Oh, I thought it was for some.
Anyway, I was just catching up on the comics and came across today’s “Shoe”. In it, an editor is writing the day’s commentary: “The one truly striking difference between Congress and day care is, day care has adult supervision.”
Classic.

Peter L,
Yes he is eligible, and I don’t doubt he is an American citizen. I also agree about the changing religions thing. As I’ve said before, as a child you don’t usually get a say on what religion you are. Your parents decide that. What my issues are is why does BO continue to insist that the Daily Kos forgeries are legitimate, as his website clearly does. And second, why not release the originals and remove all doubt. Even if the religon line says Muslim, big deal, as I said, at that point he wouldn’t have had a say in it. And third, and most importantly to me, this speaks to BO’s credibility. He has not been honest about it. He’s backed forgeries as legit, while knowing they weren’t, and continues to be less than up front on this. If he is not gonna be honest and up-front with something like this, how can he be trusted to be honest and up-front on anything else. This looks like just one more thing, along with past and present associates, public financing, Iraq, NAFTA, 2nd amendment, that he continues to be questionable on. There are a whole lot of small things out there that lead one to question his integrity. His dishonesty and flip-flopping needs to be pointed out and probed before his fitness for the office of the POTUS can be determined. That’s the issue, and all these things raise legit questions that deserve truthful answers.

Without a proper Birth Certificate how do we know where anyone is born?

Cheryl,
Thank you for the story. You should finish it. As I reflected that our pastor is a single man, unlike Curtis, I remembered a Mark Heard song that has always reminded me of our pastor and his love for the word.

Hello, friends. I’m taking Law class at college. We have to do a term paper on anything we would like. Do you people have any interesting suggestions for what a Christian can do a term paper on? Are there areas in law (USA/Canada) that a Christian would find interesting to write on?
Report comment to moderator
Christian,
I can think of three or four, if you give me a day or two I can come back with an answer. I have some research to catch up on, and a few other items.
If you’re interested check back on Monday. I’m interested in your ‘term paper’ – The USA/CANADA idea sounds good.
I will post on this thread which is posted every day but Sunday.
