Christian,

I can think of three or four, if you give me a day or two I can come back with an answer. I have some research to catch up on, and a few other items.

If you're interested check back on Monday. I'm interested in your 'term paper' - The USA/CANADA idea sounds good.

I will post on this thread which is posted every day but Sunday.

Hello, friends. I'm taking Law class at college. We have to do a term paper on anything we would like. Do you people have any interesting suggestions for what a Christian can do a term paper on? Are there areas in law (USA/Canada) that a Christian would find interesting to write on?

A thought from a pastor friend from Texas:

Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord

The first half of Ps. 33:12 says: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Regarding the blessed nation, this verse is often quoted as our American heritage and as a desire & prayer for our country now; but if we are honest with Scripture and loyal to it, believers will see it is really misquoting the Scriptures to use it regarding America. Why?

First, America does not have the living God as its God and is therefore not blessed; secondly, the second half of the verse identifies the nation in view- the elect people of God, the church of Jesus Christ, and not some earthly nation.

I feel very deeply that we ought to be extremely careful and discerning in these matters in the use of the Word; such a verse does not apply to America or any physical nation, but only to the people of God. I don't even use or sing the glib phrase anymore that is so traditional and so popular- "God bless America", because the phrase is now an abomination to the very God it sings about. The wicked take it on their druken lips at sporting events, while they hold a beer bottle and then continue to get drunk.

It ought to make us wonder what God thinks and feels when Americans sing it as a national ritual, all the while have no thought or intention of honoring Jesus Christ in any way? I wonder if the Lord would have us turn God bless America around to say- "America, bless God"; America, instead of asking God to bless you while you continue in your blatant wickedness, why don't you bless God by turning from your idols to serve the living God? If that happened, then it would have some reality.

America, why don't you bless God, by turning from your evils? That would be the most patriotic act anyone could ever do on Independence Day-- become fully and eternally dependent on the living God. No, I am not an Independence Day scrooge, just a Christian first, then an American who is grateful for God's mercies and blessings.

Cheryl,
Thank you for the story. You should finish it. As I reflected that our pastor is a single man, unlike Curtis, I remembered a Mark Heard song that has always reminded me of our pastor and his love for the word.

WELL-WORN PAGES
by Mark Heard.

Sitting with a Bible in his hand
He thumbs the well -worn pages like before
The evening young and he an aged man
He seeks to understand his Maker more

Sitting in the dark in frayed attire
He feels the chill of winter coming in
He throws another log into the fire
And looks into his Bible once again

He learned to love the pages as a boy
And sought to keep his faith alive and strong
And in the face of threats to rob his joy
The years had somehow left him with a song

A rough and shaky finger scans the lines
And well he knows the old familiar words
He thinks of all the times they've met his eyes
It's still the goodest news he's ever heard.

Peter L,

Yes he is eligible, and I don't doubt he is an American citizen. I also agree about the changing religions thing. As I've said before, as a child you don't usually get a say on what religion you are. Your parents decide that. What my issues are is why does BO continue to insist that the Daily Kos forgeries are legitimate, as his website clearly does. And second, why not release the originals and remove all doubt. Even if the religon line says Muslim, big deal, as I said, at that point he wouldn't have had a say in it. And third, and most importantly to me, this speaks to BO's credibility. He has not been honest about it. He's backed forgeries as legit, while knowing they weren't, and continues to be less than up front on this. If he is not gonna be honest and up-front with something like this, how can he be trusted to be honest and up-front on anything else. This looks like just one more thing, along with past and present associates, public financing, Iraq, NAFTA, 2nd amendment, that he continues to be questionable on. There are a whole lot of small things out there that lead one to question his integrity. His dishonesty and flip-flopping needs to be pointed out and probed before his fitness for the office of the POTUS can be determined. That's the issue, and all these things raise legit questions that deserve truthful answers.

Oh, I thought it was for some.

Anyway, I was just catching up on the comics and came across today’s “Shoe”. In it, an editor is writing the day’s commentary: “The one truly striking difference between Congress and day care is, day care has adult supervision.”
