Rants! & Raves! 7.18
Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly chance to sound off about the week past. Remember the rules:
1. A Rave! is something that happened during the past week that you’re pleased about and is signified by the word “Rave!” and/or an appropriately peppy emoticon.
2 A Rant! is something that happened during the past week that you’re ticked about and is signified by the word “Rant!” and/or an appropriately grumpy emoticon.
3. You may Rant! about something a person said, did or wrote, but you may not Rant! about generally disliking a person.
Have fun!

Rave: When going on vacation in a couple of days.
Rant: I doubt we’ll have Internet, so I’ll miss all the goings on here.

Another rant: we’re not going anywhere as cool as Prague, but I wouldn’t want to take my five-year- old there anyway He would probably get us a arrested or start an international incident or something.

Rant? Rave? Nobody ever told me that Phil Gramm used to be a porn movie producer. Maybe he really does understand the economy…

Part of me just wants to leave that on its own, but God has been good to me this week, so I need to add the others.
:/ still awaiting final word on a huge project–the company has been supposed to call me for days, and since it will tie up my schedule for some time, it would be good to confirm details and get it moving, if they still want me.

Thanks, Tychicus. I’ve been studying Czech like a madperson out of a little 1960s book from the library, but the only word I recognized were “Vas” and “hezky”. Oh, and “a”, I guess.

John McCain lied to us this week. He said there were no oil spills during the hurricanes. There were many and almost as much oil spilled as during the Exxon Valdez.
RANT
Phil Grammm (R-ENRON) works as John McCain’s economic advisor while he works as a lobbyist for Swiss Bank UBS which has been implicated in a scheme to help wealthy Americans hide billions of dollars from the IRS. Only the little people pay taxes. Now I learn he is a pornography peddler?
RAVE
We don’t have to vote for a man who lies to us and hires people who represent the interests of foreign banks and tax cheats.

Bob Barr is suing to get on the Oklahoma ballot.

Galadriel: How long will you be in the CR? Will you be travelling elsewhere in the country (such as South Bohemia), or will you stay in Prague?

Mickey took down John McCain’s joke about a woman who was brutally raped and left for dead by a gorilla. McCain’s punchline was that the lady liked it. I thought it was interesting to see the kinds of things John McCain finds laughable.
RAVE
Christ’s example teaches that I should forgive Mickey, and I do forgive Mickey.

John McCain adopted the same Afghanistan position Obama has advocated since last August. More troops in Afghanistan is a step in the right direction.
RANT
It turns out that presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain, has attended even fewer Afghanistan-related Senate hearings over the past two years than Obama’s one. Which is a nice way of saying, McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Service Committee, has attended zero of his committee’s six hearings on Afghanistan over the last two years.

#13 GODLUMPS,
Yeah, but he went to Iraq 3 times this year to find out the facts, his surge worked, and he is light years ahead of Obama when it comes to any Commander in Chief issues including knowing that you have to go there several times, talk to the on the the ground commanders before you make up your mind on anything – unless you are insane of course and beholding to the ‘No war is worth the price’ whack jobs on the left of your party.
Obama is just a woosie appeaser like the rest on the left – in fact, he might be the poster boy for it. We have see all pof this before so it is just deja vu and water under the bridge.
No one in their right mind would ever trust their life to a lefty for any reason but don’t take it personal or noghting.

Thank you for pointing out Bush and McCain are the same.
We don’t need a third Bush term. Things are bad enough and we haven’t swallowed the 2nd one yet.

Tychicus: I’m also going to a camp thingy called Dobra Voda. I’m not sure exactly where it is, I just know we went there by way of Prachatice.

Funny, right after Obama published his op-ed piece calling for a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, and was blasted by McCain and the entire VRWC, Bush announced today that he and the Iraqis are going to establish…you guessed it… a timetable for withdrawal.
I wonder if McCain will have the guts to disagree. Fat chance.

People (Godlumps particularly), this is “rants and raves,” not “Whirled Views.”
Rant: Godlumps’ hatred of Bush is getting really, really, really, really, really, really, really tiresome.

Galadriel: Dobra Voda is in our neck of the woods. We once had a family conference there.

Rave: I spent last Thurs through this Tues with the good people of Bowling Green, KY trying to get my uncle’s affairs in order. He has ALS and has been letting things slide. With no wife/kids he’s used to managing his own stuff, but just can’t anymore. The face of God was everywhere I looked – in his MD’s who took the time to clip his toenails (an endocrinologist!) and the neurologist who spent more time talking to him about legal (get your will done; ask someone to be your POA for Medical Affairs) issues than medical ones, in the lawyer who was compassionate and understanding and willing to work hard to get things in place quickly, and in the many friends who’s help he has thus far refused who to a person chorused “I have been so concerned about H.; whenever there is something I can do please let me know”.
It was a priviledge to be there being used to make connections and helping to close loops. If you’re looking for a great community to retire in, Bowling Green is tops.

Late Breaking Rave:
WASHINGTON – President Bush and Iraq’s prime minister have agreed to set a “general time horizon” (timetable like Obama has advocated) for bringing more U.S. troops home from the war, a dramatic shift from the administration’s once-ironclad unwillingness to talk about any kind of deadline or timetable.

Rave!
I will be driving home tomorrow, 770 miles, so I won’t have to read about the eevil Bush!

Still trying to figure out how to get air to stay in that tire. Don’t know if that is a rant because I can’t use the riding lawn mower, or a rave because I have a riding lawn mower to use.

I’m back from a long weekend vacation with our oldest son who is finishing his degree this summer. We floated our frozen fannies down the one of Florida’s famous spring fed rivers while our topsides burned, and the next day I topped off my sunburn at the beach. It’s really splotchy like I didn’t get the sunblock on very well.
We got to visit said son at two of his jobs. Yesterday we saw him working an awesome 50 ft. climbing wall as an instructor/belayer. And the day before that we attended one of his tutoring classes. I was impressed with his material and his presentation. This job is probably one of his best experiences during his past four years. Well that, and getting out on his own. He’s doing well. I’m very pleased.

Posting long links that mess up viewing forums. When you post a extremely long link it has no breaks so that the forum software cannot automatically wrap text to the next line. So what heppens is that the the whole thread doesn’t wordwrap anymore and you wind up scrolling to read each line in each post. It’s a royal pain in the neck.
I protest such foolishness – especially among the otherwise bright people at WMB.
