I don't understand what the violation was. Is it because they didn't get permission from the IOC? Did someone just forget to fill out the proper forms?

The old committee which was responsible for raping, torturing, and murdering athletes was approved by the IOC, but a new one which doesn't do those things is not?

Well ya can't just go around cleaning up corrupt committees! What would become of the Olympics as we know it if the IOC itself did that?

We don't know how much, but we can be pretty sure Herculean bribes were given to get the Olympics in Beijing.

The original Olympics were political, corrupt, brutal, and fairly sick. It's hard to believe that anyone in modern times regards the myth of the Olympics and it's modern incarnation without either breaking into hysterical laughter or weeping. (These are both Olympic events.)

Oh, yeah, now we let women join in the fun. The Greeks would have said, "What are they thinking?"

The International Olympic Committee has just demonstrated that it is not a politics free organization. This is an absolute shame. Are they trying to tell us that there is no interference by the governments of other countries in their nations' teams?

No matter how much we all would like to imagine that the Olympics are non-political, they are political. The athletes from Iraq deserve their opportunity to participate. If President Bush will not refuse to attend the Olympics because of China's human rights violations, he should at least stand up for the Iraqi Olympics team and refuse to attend because of the sacrifice our military has made for the freedom of the Iraqi people.
