Albert Einstein

I thought R.C. Sproul said that in one of his epistemology lectures.
Report comment to moderator
You may be right Bianca. I listen more to John McAurther than Sproul.
Report comment to moderator
Sproul could have been quoting Einstein. So both of them said it.
Does anyone realize there are only 97 days until the 2008 election? That means that it is only 98 days until Campaign 2012 begins! (Oh, puh-leez)!
On another note: is anyone going to pay much attention to the Olympics? I don’t think I will. They have become too commercialized, and the coverage is too boring. If they would show more of the action and less of the human interest stories about the athletes, perhaps it would not be so bad! (Is someone really wants to know all the obstacles the athletes had to overcome, NBC could put the info on the web and send viewers there.)
Report comment to moderator
The real “Olympic” news is how badly China is acting in the run up to the Olympics. Of course it’s no different than they always act. Which should be why the Olympics aren’t held there…
Oh wait.

I’m more fond of the Winter Olympics, so I probably won’t watch much. I heard the Chinese have put in a 13 into the gymnastics by claiming that she’s sixteen. They can’t come up with blue sky. I suspect these things will be on normal news reports, though, so I won’t have to change my viewing habits.

Peter L,
I find it interesting hearing about the obstacles that China is trying to overcome to look good as the Olympic host. A woman from our church lives in Beijing and works as a chemistry instructor at the university (she teaches in English, and a lot of students take the class to improve their English at the same time as learning chemistry), so that she can get to know the students and share her faith with them. (She told about telling them about the Resurrection, and what an amazing new idea it was to them.)
She came back to the States for a few weeks in order to miss the Olympics (even if she wanted to attend, she said it’s much harder to get tickets there than here). She told about the preparations they’ve been making, not just tearing down old buildings and putting up new ones, and trying to clean up the air, but making people practice not spitting and I forget what else.
Report comment to moderator
The way they are trying to clean up the air is by telling half of all workers to come to work every other day, and the other half of the workers to come on opposing days?
Sounds like a plan…

Just wondering why a discussion of a mass murderer’s reading habits is not being discussed. Apparently this was the only reference in the MSM.

The 2nd quarter GDP was announced today. It grew at 1.9%, so much for believing the whack job left when it comes to economics. They’ve been saying we have been in a recession for a year now but, they be very wrong about that and great many other things too – as usual.
Many had expected 2.5% growth and were disappointed. I say be thankful for what we have. This economy has been battling demons and the socialists for years now and somehow it still hangs in there and defeats any and all who gang up to stand stand in the way of free market capitalism.
Amazing really, but fitting for this great country.

Pauline,
Sadly, they took dog off the menus in China and are trying to curb public smoking too.
I can’t believe that the world will not see China at is really is with their fine folks with hand rolled cigarettes stuck to their lips, constantly coughing and hacking, spitting up chunks of of half chewed pooch with spittle dribbling off their chins into drool cups. It’s really not worth going there until the Olympics are over and I can see why your friend came home for them.
They should just tell the world to pound sand, show us the greatness of China’s that we are now missing, point out how snobby and biggoted we really are and give out some free Doxie Dog Schezuan Jerky samples at the Bird’s Nest
Marxists aren’t supposed to debase themselves and lose face as weak, oosie, naive, appeasing fools after they have killed millions of their own poor people to graduate from mere Socialism. What did those people die for anyway?

Joel Mark,
I don’t remember you apologizing for the plight of gay people and the hardships foisted on the gay community by otherwise righteous and proud Americans. Some might equate your oversight with homophobic, bigoted, anti gay behavior that could lead to even further gay victimization – so I am apologizing for your oversight yesterday and pray that both of us do not suffer horribly for your not apologizing to gays yesterday.
That goes for women as well – and not just the gay, pretty ones either – including transgendered men or women or both that think they are women at least some of the time regardless of their state of dress or demeanor are included too.
OK, OK, go ahead and through in the whack jobs too. Jeeze, will this ever end?

#9 Make it Man,
I thought they were doing the even / odd liscence plates for driving into the city to cut the air pollution in half. The half that can’t drive are supposed to ride their bikes into work instead – not miss work. They have way too many toys that kill American children to make – to take every other day off.
Sadly, there aren’t enough bikes left in China because alGore has bought them all to corner the market on them so he can sell them to Americans – once the left bans all cars in the USA or restricts gasoline to the point there is none at any price. The only one with a plan is alGore.

Llama,
You’re probably right about the license plate thing. I just knew that about half of them weren’t driving…

Speaking of the Olympics, it’s now been revealed that in spite of earlier promises, China is going to limit journalist’s access to the internet. Also, in spite of earlier promises, the networks have to submit their stories and coverage to the Chinese authorities for approval before it can be broadcast.
For the Chinese athletes, it’s known as the “3-G Olympics” (gold, gulag, or gallows).
Hitler and his Berlin Olympics have got nothing on the Chinese and their 2008 Olympics.
The IOC has totally caved in to the Chinese on every issue. Human rights, air pollution, press freedom – you name it, they’ve given in.
More disgusting – President Bush is going so he can personally praise the Chinese authorities for their wonderful Olympics. What a crock!

Is it time for the Olympics again?
Report comment to moderator
Anlir: I read on breitbart.com today that President Bush will be going to church while in China, then speak out for freedom of religion. It probably won’t do anything to end the persecution of the non-state-sponsored churches [the underground churches], or free those imprisoned and tortured for their faith, but it’s better than any other head of state has been reported as planning to do.

No one took me up on my post #12. Am I to gather from the silence that everyone considers their reading habits have zero influence on their actions.
If someone shot up an evangelical church and was found to have read the God Delusion, the Hitchens collection, Al Franken and Micheal Moore would the silence remain?

I’m happy for you, God bless your family.
There was a story just yesterday, or the day before – a woman had given birth to her 18th child – I think she’s just a bit older than you are.
I can’t imagine having six kids, you must be one busy mom, but a happy one

HRW,
All you can gather from my silence is that I hadn’t heard of the story and didn’t read your link.
I may read it later, but for now I will just say that I would expect reading habits to have an influence on people’s actions. No way to draw direct correlation from any particular book to any particular person’s action (unless they say it was an influence), but it would be odd if there were not some kind of connection, considering the power of words and ideas.
Report comment to moderator
Momof5 – Best wishes! You must have studied hard to pass that test.
Report comment to moderator
HRW, like Pauline I’m not sure who you’re talking about and I have visited your link.
Might you tell us who he is?
I would expect some kind of influence if the majority of a certain kind of books are read by someone. For instance, if I have a whole bookshelf of books pertaining to a certain topic, it stands to reason that I may have been influenced somewhat by them, esp. if they’re non-fiction.
But I pretty much agree with Pauline on what she said.

I hope someone gives you a BIG SHOWER – too bad I don’t live closer, I’d give you one myself. As far as the weigh thingy, just think you are starting out slimmer, so you’ll look extra nice. You can always lose the weight again.
Report comment to moderator
Thanks, Victoria. I am glad I lost the weight (19 lbs). I do feel better, and I know the baby will benefit, too. And I’ve learned some good principles for losing weight.
As to the baby equipping, I have friends in the same season of life–some of my items may even find their way back here. I’m sure our family and church family will help out, too.
I’ve reminded myself with other babies that women have had babies and cared for them just great without all the props. But I do enjoy the props!
Llama, the thread has gone girly again…sorry! (not…)

Jim Adkinson shoots up a Unitarian Church killing 2 and wounding 6 during a children’s muscial. This church was targeted because of its gay friendly policies. He left behind a four page letter detailing his hatred of liberals. At his house he had books by O’Reilly, Savage and Hannity.
The lack of discussion of his reading habits and his motivation to shoot people is somewhat puzzling. When Columbine occurred and other mass shootings, the media spent an inordinate amount of time discussing motivation and influence. Marilyn Manson was heavily criticized as was the entire Goth sub-culture.
Why isn’t the media conducting a similar witch hunt in this case? Is it …
– the influences in question are fellow journalist and they don’t like to raise any issue which may result in limitation of speech.
or
– talk radio/cable news is a force that keeps media focused on an issue and its right wing.
or
the shooter was an adult hence the entire narrative of out of control teen culture doesn’t work here.
or ….

Momof 5 – you must look very healthy. All the running around you do with 5 kids most likely keeps you trim.
I have always loved to give parties – I just bet there’s a lot of gals in your church who enjoy it as much as I do.
Poor Llama and all the other guys, they will have to get used to this. Women love to talk about babies –
Hi Llama, how’s it going? All this infant stuff is very important to us, we love it. You guys aren’t off the hook, all of you who have kids are to blame,

NJL, #46,
I sure hope you’re right about the age thing!
My mil had baby #10 at about 44 yrs. I saw her jump a fence at about 50 yrs! So she’s not your average lady…it’s intimidating, I tell ya.
I’ll wait a little longer to reserve momof6. Those of you who pray for other posters, I’d appreciate your prayers. I miscarried 2 years ago, pretty early. So while I’m thrilled (!) about the baby, I’m not going shopping quite yet, or picking out names. I’m really looking forward to seeing a healthy little one on the sonogram soon!
BTW, the kids are all very happy, too. Some of the younger ones are trying to figure out how all this works, and the oldest girl (bless her!) is already asking me to teach her how to do some of the chores I’ve always done for the family.
The 4 y/o patted my tummy and told everyone to be gentle with Mommy now.
What a blessed day!
And thanks for celebrating with me. Even though we have a large family, finding out is always a bit surreal right at first. I promise not to turn this into a pregnancy blog.

When I read and hear Republicans complain that Obama was campaigning outside the country, I believe its just jealously since they weren’t nearly as successful at it when they went;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp1YlOsJOtg
Of interest is the fund raiser he held in Britain while on a gov’t funded trip. First its gov’t funded which makes it campaigning on the gov’t dime. Secondly he’s raising money outside the country.

It is interesing that there’s a suggestion that they may be on the road to a cure for HIV-AIDS as Peter L mentioned.
It may be a premature hope. It may have to join failures such as the “War on Drugs,” and the “War on Terror.” When you war on a generality, you generally don’t win.
Of course, the war on bad sexual behavior is another never-ending war that goes on, particularly among consevative Christians, who never engage in bad sexual behavior.
If a cure for HIV does eventually appear, it will be like the cure for syphilis, which did actually occur (though syphilis is still around. Read about the history of this disease some day.)
In any case, if there is a cure for AIDS, what will there be to induce people to keep in their panties what should be kept in their panties?
The AIDS epidemic is pretty good evidence for my argument that sex is the psychological and sociological equivalent of nuclear energy. If not even a fairly high risk of death is not enough to induce people to behave sensibly, what are the chances of preaching doing it. Preaching goes on at this web site every hour of the day and night, yet even as I speak, nay, this very second, people somewhere are fornicating.
Preach brothers! Preach sisters! Preach against fornicating!
