Lieberman to speak at GOP convention
Whether John McCain picks him as his running mate or not, Sen. Joe Lieberman will have a voice at the Republican National Convention. An anonymous Republican Party official has told the Associated Press that the former Democratic vice presidential candidate will deliver a speech when the GOP gathers in St. Paul, Minn., early next month.
MORE GOP CONVENTION NEWS: The AP reports that Rudy Giuliani will give the keynote address at the convention. Other speakers include Laura Bush, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and McCain’s former Republican rivals.

I wonder if John McCain is taking trying to do what Lincoln did. Lincoln chose Johnson, (a Democrat) as his running mate to try to bind up the wounds of the country after the civil war.

Well I hope the Republicans will give him a committee assignment because I’m certainly urging my democratic Senators to vote to strip him of his current ones.

I predict Lieberman will give a “tough on terrorism” speech at the convention.
Which of course translates into Lieberman, a Jewish man, wanting the U.S. to take out more of Israel’s enemies.

Joe B- Lincoln chose Johnson, (a Democrat) as his running mate to try to bind up the wounds of the country after the civil war.
The Civil War did not happen until after Lincoln was elected. However, you are right that he did it as a way of reaching out to the South, since Johnson was from Tennessee.

Well, it sounds like quite a lineup of RINOs! Should be something for everyone there, Republican and Democrat alike.

My goodness. Now we have Socialists taking stage at the Republican convention. The tent is getting pretty big I would say. Guess the lefties were lying again when they claimed they invented big rainbow colored tents.
Several months ago I took two $20 bets from big time Republicans where they bet Joe would be McCains pick for VP if McCain was the republican nominee. I told them both that even McCain wasn’t stupid enough to pick a man that looks older than him and true socialist as his running mate. If I have to pay up I am definitely going to have to change my ……..Underwear.
This guy is left of Hillary for heaven’s sake if you count the fact she voted for the war before saying she really didn’t, or shouldn’t have or wouldn’t have if she wasn’t stressed out by relatives who are drive by sexual predators or something – depending on what is is.
Someonre should tell Joe it ain’t so and send him packing off to Denver instead. They are the ones lacking Iraq War support.

#5 BIANCA,
IS NOT! Joe knows the Israeli military doesn’t need the US military for anything. They will take out Iran nukes just like they did in Iraq and Syria with no help from anyone.
The only time the US ever helped Israel in time of war was in 1973 and the day the Yom Kippur War ended the Arabs slapped the first oil embargo on the USA. That scared the woosies in Washington in both parties so npo help will be going toward Israel in time of war any time soon.
But, Israel will be forced to nuke the first country or group of countries that can defeat the Israeli armed forces because the US won’t help Israel the next time they are going to wiped out too. This is doubly true if the Socialist Surrender Monkeys can get a President elected.

I don’t know why the Democrats in America are so nice. They should have kicked this guy to the curb long ago.

What you just said is complete nonsense.
Israel a country the size of New Jersey and the population of 6-7 million can afford their state-of-the-art military (complete with nuclear weapons) on their own?
The American taxpayers support the Israeli military and the rest of the Middle East knows it. Why do you think they hate the U.S. so much?

The British parliamentary system (UK, Canada, NZL, AUS) is based on the party system. From all points on the spectrum, politicians are habitually kicked out for ignoring party discipline. For example two Conservatives were expelled from their party for voting against party policy last year. Usually such behavior earns them an extra term from their constituency especially if he buck the party line to correspond with his constituents’ needs. Sometimes these “mavericks” join the an other party to ensure reelection or committee work — this is especially true in Canada where the difference between conservatives and liberals is a matter of degrees (Coke and diet Coke).

Just because Joe Liberman is speaking at the convention does not mean he will be McCain’s running mate. Speculation is just that Speculation. If I were a betting man though, John McCain will choose who he feels can take over the job as commander in chief in the event the unthinkable happens.
Just a point of History though. Every congressman or Senator who was elected to the Presidency died in office.
So if History is any descriptor of things to come, neither the junior Senator from Illinois or the Senior Senator from Arizona have a bright future to look forward too.

Is that correct? I thought the only Presidents to die in office were the ones who were assassinated.
I think Wilson had a stroke in office but that’s about it.

Nick, I believe Samuel will back me up on that.

Nicky,
You need to learn how to read. I said support Israel ‘in time of war’. We certainly give foreign aid to Israel and they buy US weapons too, but we give more to Egypt and other Arabs that are trying to wipe them off the face of the earth as you are. We just Gave Iraq $500 Billion worth of US Military Aid and the only thing they would agree with you on is wiping out Israel – if they or you could – but they and you can’t. The US military might be able to.
We never gave Israel any kind of military aid until October 1973, when they werre about to nuke the Egyptians in the Sinai.
So, your thoughts are nonsense as usual.

When is Israel “not in time of war”? Their cowardly, despicable attack on Lebanon in 2006 is just one example.
Israel was looking for an excuse to brutalize someone other than the Palestinians and the kidnap or capture of 2 Israeli soldiers gave them all the pretext they needed.
Is there a person on the planet who thinks Iran is about to attack Israel? Of course not. Israel just feels to need to constantly fan the flames to keep the money from the U.S. pouring in.

I agree with Nick that Lieberman will give a tough on terrorism speech, and I also agree with CherylD that there will be something for everyone at the convention.
At a time when people want to end partisanship, I think it is a great idea to have Lieberman speak. He knows what it is like to reach across the aisle, he’s been able to — even to the extent of leaving the Democrats, which they didn’t like, more power to him — and so does McCain. This shows that McCain can work with those on the other side. This should appeal to middle of the roaders.
Good idea.

McCain can work with those on the other side?
I thought it was kind of an open secret that McCain was one of the most (if not the most) disliked U.S. Senators.

The reason the Democrats haven’t kicked Joe to the curb is because they needed him in order to form a majority in the Senate. But the clock is ticking on the arrangement and he will soon be stripped of his Senate leadership positions for his disloyalty to the Democratic Party. He really has no where to go but to the Republican Party. But the Republicans will have to consider whether they really want a man who will abandon his Party so easily and so blatantly.
One of the best parts about this story is that a man who’s pro-choice is being given a prime speaking spot at the Republican Convention. I wonder how well that’s going to go down?

but we give more to Egypt and other Arabs that are trying to wipe them off the face of the earth as you are
Llama, as usual, is wrong. Egypt is not trying to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. They have signed a peace treaty with the Israelis and the two nations are not at loggerheads. The U.S. doles out billions to both Israel and Egypt as a reward for playing nice to each other. Syrian is also in peace talks with the Israelis. In fact, there is no Arab country that presents a viable threat to Israel at this time. No Arab country is calling for the destruction of Israel either.
Iran is the only nation in the Middle East that is threatening to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Iran is not an Arab nation. Iranians have always been and always will be Persian.

Anlir, If I’m not mistaken, ALL the men named in this post are pro-abortion (Lieberman, Giuliani, and Schwarzenegger). I’m beginning to agree with those who suggest that maybe the Republicans need to lose this election, and wake everybody up. This certainly isn’t the Republican party I joined. I very much do not want to see Obama win, but maybe it would be the wake-up call we need.
Report comment to moderator
As I understand it, Nick, McCain’s reputation is for a bad temper AND for working in a bipartisan manner. McCain is an example of someone who votes for what he believes is for the good of the country whether that is party line or not.
There comes a point where, to move forward, we have to stop thinking in terms of Republican and Democrat and rather what is best for the country. In doing so, we have to remember that none of us — nor any particular group — has a lock what is best for the country. Politics is the art of compromise. It’s about how many fellow congresspeople you can convince to join you.

I don’t think Lieberman abandoned his party. I think his party abandoned him. And I think the people of his state stuck by him.

Cheryl D. is correct on the abortion question. Notably, Dems are letting Bob Casey speak, who is pro-life. Maybe Dems should have Colin Powell speak. I think he’s endorsed Obama. That would be a coup.

I hope that McCain has enough sense not to pick Romney as his VP – Romney’s negatives on the last Rasmussen survey of VP candidates was the highest at 48%. That size negatives includes a lot more than Evengelicals. Why pick a man who half of the electorate dislikes right off the bat. Romney will be speaking at the convention, I hope that does not mean he is under strong consideration.

Rich Allen, thank you for the news re Romney. You are right about that. Who had the lowest negatives?

Cheryl and others, The neo-cons are taking the religious right for granted. McCain has made nice in Bob Jones/Liberty U and pandered well in Saddleback but in reality he and his backers will continue to the neo-con rule. With a token nod to the religious right, the neo-cons will continue with elite sense of self-entitlement, destroy the gov’t through debt and corruption and then when the edifice collapses they will leave to the private sector, move off shore and blame the people.
