Cheryl and others, The neo-cons are taking the religious right for granted. McCain has made nice in Bob Jones/Liberty U and pandered well in Saddleback but in reality he and his backers will continue to the neo-con rule. With a token nod to the religious right, the neo-cons will continue with elite sense of self-entitlement, destroy the gov't through debt and corruption and then when the edifice collapses they will leave to the private sector, move off shore and blame the people.

I hope that McCain has enough sense not to pick Romney as his VP - Romney's negatives on the last Rasmussen survey of VP candidates was the highest at 48%. That size negatives includes a lot more than Evengelicals. Why pick a man who half of the electorate dislikes right off the bat. Romney will be speaking at the convention, I hope that does not mean he is under strong consideration.

Cheryl D. is correct on the abortion question. Notably, Dems are letting Bob Casey speak, who is pro-life. Maybe Dems should have Colin Powell speak. I think he's endorsed Obama. That would be a coup.

I don't think Lieberman abandoned his party. I think his party abandoned him. And I think the people of his state stuck by him.

As I understand it, Nick, McCain's reputation is for a bad temper AND for working in a bipartisan manner. McCain is an example of someone who votes for what he believes is for the good of the country whether that is party line or not.

There comes a point where, to move forward, we have to stop thinking in terms of Republican and Democrat and rather what is best for the country. In doing so, we have to remember that none of us -- nor any particular group -- has a lock what is best for the country. Politics is the art of compromise. It's about how many fellow congresspeople you can convince to join you.

Anlir, If I'm not mistaken, ALL the men named in this post are pro-abortion (Lieberman, Giuliani, and Schwarzenegger). I'm beginning to agree with those who suggest that maybe the Republicans need to lose this election, and wake everybody up. This certainly isn't the Republican party I joined. I very much do not want to see Obama win, but maybe it would be the wake-up call we need.

but we give more to Egypt and other Arabs that are trying to wipe them off the face of the earth as you are

Llama, as usual, is wrong. Egypt is not trying to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. They have signed a peace treaty with the Israelis and the two nations are not at loggerheads. The U.S. doles out billions to both Israel and Egypt as a reward for playing nice to each other. Syrian is also in peace talks with the Israelis. In fact, there is no Arab country that presents a viable threat to Israel at this time. No Arab country is calling for the destruction of Israel either.

Iran is the only nation in the Middle East that is threatening to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Iran is not an Arab nation. Iranians have always been and always will be Persian.
