The Veepstakes
Word has it that Barack Obama will announce his VP pick any day now, perhaps even today. Meanwhile, John McCain is planning to announce his running mate selection on Aug. 29–which happens to be his 72nd birthday and a day after Obama accepts the Democratic nomination.
On Obama’s side, the likely VP pool includes Sen. Joseph Biden, Sen. Evan Bayh, or Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, while McCain’s short list supposedly includes former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Sen. Joe Lieberman, or former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.
Here’s the place to weigh in with your political predictions for whom Obama and McCain will choose.

I hereby declare my candidacy for the WoW vice-presidency (as Chas is running for President!). Yes I know now that he is 78, he is still full of wisdom, common sense, love for life. Who wouldn’t want to be Chas’ running mate? As an unltra – conservative, methinks Chas and I would accomplish many good things in this next term.
What say ye, Charles?

Justus, AJ already has the VP nomination. But we can find a place for you in the Chas administration.
But I came here to say:
DON’T SAY VEEPSTAKES!
Report comment to moderator
Chas,
DON’T SAY VEEPSTAKES! You got that right.
I would rather have you as the real Prez Chas and would take AJ as VP too over anyone McCain would pick.
In the real world, I don’t care in the least who the Marxist Messiah picks. I figure it will be a more experienced Marxist who is totally worthless.
But of those VP’s listed for McCain, I suppose i would have to go with the Gov of Minn.

I say we only say VEEPSTAKES if we have something (or someone) to grill.

Actually I have to flip flop and go with Romney. He is a fine businessman, can stand up to McCain, has lots of experience, speaks well and gives great speeches (unlike Pawlenty and McCain)and if he has really flip flopped on Abortion and is solidly against Mother Murderers – then he is better.

This, from CBS news (courtesy of Marc Ambinder) spells out Obama’s standards. Sure sounds like Biden to me.
Report comment to moderator
Well, Obama really doesn’t need a ‘Vice-President’ anyway.
Anybody that can make the seas begin to recede and the globe begin to cool and all the chickens in the world to lay bigger and prettier eggs – all by making a single speech, probably doesn’t need a ‘Vice-President’ at all.
I mean, come on. He is ‘The One’, after all.
If he has a ‘Vice-President’, what is it, then?
‘The Two’?
Anyway, even a run-of-the-mill Messiah doesn’t need a ‘Vice-Messiah’.
So I think Obama should just announce that he (himself) is his own Vice-Presidental running mate. Then he can introduce himself at campaign events, praise himself, and have even have important high-level meetings with himself where he announces unity.
He could also presumably draw both both salaries of President and Vice-President, should Howard Dean manage to figure out how to get enough dead people and dogs to vote so that he is elected.
Lord knows he and Michelle have been struggling a bit financially, what with all that ‘tithing’ they did over the past 20 years to Jeremiah Wright and company.

There seems to be some confusion in the Chas “08 campaign. I believe Metatonia, or however you spell it, is the VP candidate. I’m simply the campaign manager. I will be rewarded for that by being named head of the CIA. That’s what I really want. I’ll have way more power than the VP. And I won’t have to do speechs either. I’ll pretty much be above the law, and will answer to pretty much nobody. That’s my dream.
Now on to the other VP races. Now as to Obama, he can pretty much pick whoever he wants. His VP pick won’t matter to his base, they’re voting for him, not his VP. Hillary would be the smart choice, but I don’t see it happening. McCain can make or break his run with his VP choice. If he picks wrong, (Liebermen, Ridge), he’s toast. He’ll lose the conservative base. If he picks right, he’ll have a good chance of winning it.
McCain is showing a 5 point lead in the Rueters/Zogby poll out today. Check out this MSNBC link for more on that. Here’s a taste;
http://tinyurl.com/5awr48
“In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama’s solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.
McCain still held a 5-point edge over Obama, 44 percent to 39 percent, when all four names were included. Barr earned 3 percent and Nader 2 percent.”
Note that last part there folks. Barr gets 3%, Nader 2%. This is why voting 3rd party is wasting your vote. They have no chance.

It hadn’t really occurred to me that there was so little need for a VP to the ObaMessiah.
But even if this young and vital national savior were to die, someone would have to run thigs for the 3 days until the ObaMessiah resurrects Himself. And it is still possible in the heavily D controlled Senate that someone might have to play the VP role of nominally running the place once or twice.

KRM,
That’s funny!! Some dem voters get resurected for elections all the time. But then they die again for 4 more years. But come next election, they’ll be resurected again. But with absentee ballots, they don’t have to dig themselves out to go to the polls, so it’s become easier for them.

#9 AJ,
In the old days, the head of the CIA had real power but that is not so after 911, homeland security and the consolidation of all intelligence under one all powerful Intelligence CZAR. The job you want is the one that the head of the CIA , FBI, military intelligence and other even more secret services reports to – the Intelligence Czar. Then you wouldn’t have to answer to anybody for anything and no one would dare investigate you. Even Marxists and Socialists aren’t that stupid. Wise choice over VP too. VP is even pretty wossie for conservatives but liberals VP’s take the cake.
To be VP, if you were a Marxist leaning socialist, you would have to be a Berkeley educated professor, atheist, founding PETA member, black or Hispanic affirmative action recipient who was a community activist or gang member right out of college, lesbian, preferably ex Black Panther or Norteneo with suitable criminal record, have some decent visible tats, gun shot and stab wounds, have at least a limp or be confined to wheelchair, be a Master Guitar Hero or Vietnam War Traitor at the very least. Illegal aliens with good or god papers is OK too. Or you can be some other combination of approved higher level whack job

Chas is running for President?!
I missed that.
Please point me to the announcement.
Thanks.

Ok, this just in. I’m wrong. Not Biden. Elsewhere, the Dems could go with Llama favorite Gov. Sebelius, or better head east for Gov. Kaine or the insider play, Sen. Jack Reed (RI).

KRM,
If the Messiah dies while president, or ascends into heaven after arising from the dead of course, they do not need a VP to take over. They have Nancy Pelosi waiting in the nut house to take over and she would make Hillary her VP. The transition and everything else will be back to normal before you can say ‘Si Senorita’, in Arabic – 3 times tout suite.

I hear that Obama has been roaming around my fair city today. Maybe I’ll go ask him who he’s going to pick.
Report comment to moderator
+1 on everything above. It doesn’t matter who BHO chooses, but I’m glad Edwards is no longer a contender. I used to think it would be smart to tap Hillary, but she seems incapable of deference, which a VP must do.
As also noted, Ridge or Lieberman would be like McCain placing his own noose. Interesting that Bobby Jindahl has preemptively declined. Perhaps he’s a real conservative who wants to keep his record clean. McCain’s best option would be to pick a Real Conservative who is relatively unknown. Someone like (future President) Mike Pence. His lack of name recognition would be a plus, since investigating him would keep him in the news.
A guy can dream, but the real nominee will be Romney.

I agree with Stubob and my fantasy pick is Michael Steele.

Mark Roth, I was drafted. About a month ago, I posted on WV that I had, upon consideration, discovered that I am more qualified to be president than Barak H. Obama. We bounced that around some and no one could challenge the assertion. Therefore, they agreed that I should be president. However, and I pointed this out originally, I don’t look good on TV and don’t have the MSM in the tank for me.
I don’t have 143 days in the Senate, but I make up for it by having a better cabinet selection.
Report comment to moderator
Mark Roth, I also don’t use verbal pauses when speaking. Rush has compiled eight minutes of Obama saying “uh, ah, umm” in a 25 minute speech. That’s 25% of the time. He really isn’t that good.
Report comment to moderator
McCain will be smart enough not to distance himself from the prolife wing of the Party. He would be wise to go with Romney because of the moderate draw. Since he has come around to the prolife position, that would satisfy me enough to mark the R candidate, rather than a 3rd party.

Oooooooo…..Michael Steele!!!
I hadn’t thought of him.

#14 Harris,
I don’t think Obama will chose Kaine. He has less experience than The Messiah does. They would be better off letting him speak at the convention so he can be their next presidential candidate.
If he picks a s woman then Hillary will personally castrate him in public while he on stage at the convention, and that would be tough for a lefty who has his sights set on a shot at the Lincoln bedroom.

I’ve noticed the same and at first it annoyed me but it then it reminded me of a TV preacher whose name escapes me. Although I think he overuses it, I believe many times he pauses on purpose.

I would be honored to run alongside of Chas, but I wasn’t called.
Put yourself in this position. McCain has to choose someone that Republicans can see running in 2012 if McCain were to win.
The only one with true name recognition and a large national organization is Romney. Victoria won’t vote for him,
but there are enough evangelicals who will that the gains McCain will get from economic conservatives will balance it out.
He won’t pick another foreign policy or defense guru, as most people see McCain as having a solid foundation there.
I think it will be Romney.

Oh, an addendum to #27.
If McCain wins look for Obama to fade away rather quickly. I have said on a number of occasions that Obama has one chance to run. Right now, because he has no record to pick apart. In four more years, he’ll be seen as the ultra leftist that he really is and a lot of Democrats wouldn’t think of having him in 2012.
McCain has to pick someone who can run against the true formidable Democratic presidential candidate in 2012, Hillary Clinton.
If Obama loses, Hillary will have 4 more years to build her center-left coalition and there had better be a good Republican to run against, because McCain is probably a one-termer and he won’t be able to accomplish much. This race is as much about 2012 as it is about 2008.
My two cents, cause it ain’t worth a dime.

It looks like both AJ and Metanoia have bugged out of the VP deal. Now I don’t have a running mate. Arcadia wants to be Chief Justice of SCOTUS. But if I appoint him, I’ll be accused of cronyism. Besides, I’ve already promised that to Momoffour or Cameron. Not because of their stance on abortion, mind you. I’m looking only at high qualifications. How about FBI, Arcadia? Victoria has IRS, and AJ got CIA, but I don’t think I have FBI yet. You would be working for NJL, my Att. Gen.
I’m going to have the best cabinet yet.
Everyone has to be vetted to weed out Tiger, Bulldog and Volunteer people.

I just noticed, if AJ and Metanoia have declined, then Justus is it. The Chas – Justus331 ticket.
The bumpter sticker is much better than:
“Obama/Bye”, or “Bye, Bye Obama”.

But if I did appoint Arcadia to the Supreme Court, I wouldn’t have done as badly as Eisenhower, Nixon and Bush 41 did.
Sorry Arcadia, I couldn’t resist.

I hope it is Kaine. I would be happy with Kerry or Clark. I find Bayh a boring but safe choice. I cringe at Biden. It won’t be Clinton or Richardson.

Here are my predictions:
McCain will pick Gov. Tim Pawlenty
Obama will pick Sen. Evan Bayh
It’s nothing other than a pure guess just for the fun of it.

Chas, have you consider a woman VP. Of course, if you really look like Burt Lancaster you may already have the female vote in the bag.
Report comment to moderator
Chas- Since all the others have dropped out, consider an American of Puerto Rican descent. I am bilingual, and a teacher (I also am a member of the NEA, which could get you a big endorsement, even if neither of us agrees with them on anyhting). I also have no skeletons in the closet. Maybe.

KBells, with my avitar I can’t pull that Burt Lancaster line off anymore. I thought of a female VP, but the New Jersey Lawyer doesn’t like skinny men with big ears.

ok, then it is settled: Chas / Justus 2008
We will campaign with class, dignity, and a very pro-life platform!
Report comment to moderator
Chaz said “but the New Jersey Lawyer doesn’t like skinny men with big ears.”
Are we talkin’ about you, or Obama? Which one?
And thanks for the VP offer. I’m quite sure Justus would be better suited as a VP. But first some questions for him. We don’t need any surprises later.
Justus,
Sorry, but Sawgunner has been tapped for the Sec. of Defense position. You’d be a fine VP though. Now just a few questions.
Do you duck hunt? Have you ever shot anyone while duck hunting? Do you own Halibutron stock? If your answer is no to these questions, you’re in.
I think we have a good pro-life platform. The jury is still out on the class and dignity thing though. This is politics.
Arcadia,
I don’t think the court is the right place for you. In fact, I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life. But we do some positions open elsewhere
We need someone for the CDC. And we still have some diplomatic positions? Do you like warm, dry climates? And there’s always the “Rendition Express”. I could get you a seat near Alec Baldwin. You really travel alot with that one though, mostly by boat. Whatever you prefer.

In Chas’s administration, I would like to be the Secretary of Education. I would dismatle the department and then resign.
McCain should pick Huckabee. He will probably pick Romney or Pawlenty. I won’t be voting for him, so I really don’t care.
Obama should pick Biden, and I think he will. Of course, he will be utterly hypocritical in choosing a white man, but no Democrat will say so. There will be self-congratulation about how diverse the ticket is, even without a woman or hispanic or another black person on it.

Good morning, my fellow citizens of World on the Web! The real AJ is right in asking the important questions as he did in the previous post (#40). As a concerned citizen of this fine land, he has every right to fully know the candidates in question. Therefore I shall answer his concerns in the way I know best: honestly.
1) Do you duck hunt? Justus: no, but as the self-proclaimed psycho chef, I often hunt for the best roast duck on the menu in this area. It is sooooo yummy.
2) Have you ever shot anyone while duck hunting?
Justus: NO! But I was shot at while serving in the US air force back in the 80’s during a “anti-nukes protest at our main gate.
3) Do you own Haliburton stock? Justus: no, but I used to have a crush on Halle Berry!
Real AJ wrote: The jury is still out on the class and dignity thing though. This is politics.
Justus: Right, and I never claimed to be normal either, my brother.

Kyle A is in for SecEd. We seem to have had a better system back when it was HEW (Health, Education and Welfare). But Nixon changed that. I am pained that much of the damage done to our country was done by Republican presidents, just trying to get along.
That’s what fears me about McCain.
AJ, NJL was referring to Obama, but I got the hint.
Report comment to moderator
Okay, Chas. Justus for VP. So then, can I be Assistant Sec of State for Latin America? Or does EYG get that one (anyone know her whereabouts)?
Report comment to moderator
Peter L, you got it.
I’ve been wondering about EYG too. It’s been a long time.
Report comment to moderator
Re EYG: I’ve been in touch with her by e-mail, and she said that she has stopped in (as a lurker, I think), and felt that she really didn’t know anybody anymore and that “her time” with us had passed. So she’s still doing well, I think, but I suppose she just graduated. (Are we allowed to do that?)
