Obama has picked his VP …
But he won’t tell us who it is yet. USA Today’s Kathy Kiely reports this afternoon:
In an interview in Chester, Va., the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said he’s made up his mind, but he would not say whether he’s informed that person yet. “I won’t comment on anything else until I introduce our running mate to the world,” he said. “That’s all you’re going to get out of me.”
His only big hint was that this person would be “a partner with me in strengthening this economy for the middle class and working families.” Could that person’s initials be H.R.C.?

I doubt it will be Ms. Clinton. The rumor is Obama’s wife doesn’t like her and she would be too much of a losse cannon.
Besides if you were Obama would you trust Ms. Clinton?
Report comment to moderator
If he wants to win, it will be. And if it is, Obama will be destined to be on the sidelines. Bill Clinton will see to that.
And you know, if it is Hillary, that might even give her supporters a boost to nominate her. This convention is gonna be a hoot.

Smart man! Make em sweat (the Republicans and the news media). Hold it until Friday, guaranteeing that it will dominate the weekend news shows, which will then lead right into Monday’s Democratic Convention.
I’m still holding to my earlier prediction:
Obama will pick Sen. Evan Bayh
McCain will pick Gov. Tim Pwaltney

Wow. A politician appealing to pocketbooks for votes? Say it ain’t so! This, of course, goes hand in hand with showing economic class favoritism.

Nick you’re right, Obama’s wife is not fond of Hillary.

Prepare for a Kennedy at the Court of St James’s
21 Aug 2008
Mandrake by Tim Walker,
If Barack Obama makes it to the White House, Britain seems set to have its first Kennedy as American Ambassador to the Court of St James’s since JFK’s father, Joe.
Mandrake hears that it will be payback for Caroline Kennedy JFK’s only surviving child and a power broker in the Democratic Party, for being such an enthusiastic cheerleader for Obama.
She will follow in the dubious footsteps of her colourful grandfather, Joseph, an arch-appeaser of Hitler who committed political sucide when, in 1940, he declared: “Democracy is finished in England, it may be here (in the USA).”
Mandrake hopes that if she does bag London, Miss Kennedy will make good use of the entertaining space at the American ambassador’s official residence, Winfield House in Regent’s Park. I haven’t been to a really good party there since the jovial Phil Lader’s tour of duty came to an end in 2001.

I told Obama I would not accept the nomination to run as his Vice-Presidential candidate. My base at WOW were not WOW’ed.
Report comment to moderator
He’s holding out hoping to salvage some forward motion and momentum from his deflating campaign.
He’s going to tick off the base – and most leftie posters here – if he picks anyone closer to the center than is the Big BO.
As a member of the middle class and a working class family, I’m gonna say…just leave us alone BO. We don’t need the help you wish to lend.
Report comment to moderator
As a proud “leftie”, I can’t think of anyone that Obama would realistically pick from that would be unacceptable to me. Now that the traitor Lieberman has decamped to the Republicans, everyone else looks positively smashing.
Report comment to moderator
I think Anlir is right about Pawlenty.
But to call Lieberman a traitor and then chide me for calling Obama a coward — well, Anlir, your hypocrisy is showing.
Report comment to moderator
Yawn. I’m sorry…what?
Like I care what some anti-American socialist does to name a running mate for the time that he’ll probaby get to destroy my beloved country.
Wait…let me guess. His running mate will be another baby-killing supporter who believes the Constitution should say whatever he thinks it should say.
Wow. Shocker.

I know I shouldn’t get down in the dirt with NJLawyer, but sometimes ya just gotta get in the mud pit and slug it out.

Clinton will not be the VP nominee.
She will be The Nominee.
Obama’s fuel is running low and he’ll flame out before the roll call vote.
Having made it possible for you to read it here first, I further declare: I have been wrong before.
PS: Did he really say “our running mate”? If so, was he using the clerical plural or the royal plural? Or, in the spirit of change, are MichelleO and someone else his choice for co-VPs? Or maybe he means he and Michelle will be the co-VPs to Hillary’s President. I give up; time to call in the (Ob)llamas.

That’s not what you were doing, Anlir. You weren’t fighting it out with me. You were just calling Lieberman names…..can’t you admit anything?
Victoria, thank you for the story on Caroline. I guess her kids are old enough now that she wouldn’t mind going, but what does one do with one’s husband?

Wait!! Hang on, let me get my lawn chair and a drink, I want a good seat for this one!
You guys are two of my favorites, so I’m quite torn on who to root for. I guess I just really want to see a good fight.

Anlir certainly has called the betting people’s favorites on both sides.
The ObaMessiah’s policies are all uniformily designed to sound good and populist (to those who know nothing of how the world actually works) – and will backfire resoundingly, accompishing the opposite if what he intends.

Barrack Hussein has to have someone pretty at his side — Muhammed Ali.

I certainly hope it’s not Evan Bayh, but that is hardly a deal breaker. It does seem like he is going for the economy as the central issue of his campaign, so a Anthony Zini or other military man surprise seems unlikely. I don’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m leaning towards a Biden preference and can’t figure out what Bayh would offer that Biden would not. Some say he is too verbose, but I think in the primary debates he proved that he could listen to criticism on those points and be really straight forward and concise. I also think subordinating himself to Obama would be less of a problem than people are making it out has. Biden has always come across very professional to me. And a man who can subordinate himself to Harry Reid can do so to the president.
Report comment to moderator
The person I want for VP and the person Obama is likely to pick are not one in the same. I think HRC would be the best choice.
I also agree that Biden would be a good choice, though he sometimes can act like a pompous know-it-all. But he’s so smart it’s scary. I’ve watched him for years and the man knows what he’s talking about on foreign policy.
There are lots of good choices. The reason I think it will be Bayh is because he will deliver Indiana, he’s considered moderate and appealing to middle America, and just a gut feeling.

Luke — good point about Biden respecting the team captain. He’s far preferable to to me than Bayh who co-authored the AUMF, for heaven’s sake.
Biden is a catholic who will go over good in NH, PA, OH, and MI.
That would be enough If it’s Biden, McCain will really want Ridge.
America hasn’t elected a Northern liberal since FDR, unless you want to count Kennedy as a liberal. Think of it!

Mark Roth, I haven’t ruled that one out yet either.

None of the names floated for Obama’s VP bother me at all.
He’s got a decent set of choices. Of course, they all have warts. If they didn’t then they would be the ones choosing a running mate.

The outside line has Sen. Jack Reed, RI.
Report comment to moderator
I still say Obama should pick on of the Revruns – Jackson or Sharpton. He’s got a good thing going. Why not go all out?
Report comment to moderator
Just curious – if he’s not going to say who it is yet, what is the purpose of announcing that he has made his choice?

How about Bill Ayers? Then Bernardine Dohrn can be proud of her country, too.

If he is smart he will pick Hillary but he is isn’t …..eeerrrrr….going to pick her but what about his comment
His only big hint was that this person would be “a partner with me in strengthening this economy for the middle class and working families.”
What about lower class, poor working families? What about upper middle class and upper class working folks? What about children without families and old people who do not work or the folks who can’t work because they are handicapped some way. What about middle class people who don’t work? Is he gong to pick a VP who will rape all of them or is he going to do the raping of them himself?
I don’t think most people in the USA can trust this guy. He sounds too partisan and is probably a class warfare guy who hates everyone execpt Black middle classs Marxists or something. He certainly is too politically insane and dangerously narrow beamed. Presidents and their running mates are supposed to be for everyone not a few elitists like them.

#1 Nicky,
It’s not Hillary the Messiah can’t trust if he picks her – it’s her sexual predator, ex president, husband; Wee Willy, that the anti Christ is afraid of.
He may be stupid enough to pick her anyway though since he is getting creamed by a senile McCain and now slipping oh so far behind in the polls.

The big BO should said he was going to pick “a partner with me in strengthening this economy for the middle class and working families.”
I’m wondering why the big BO didn’t strengthen the economy of his hut-dwelling brother by sending him 5 bucks and a bug scratching chicken?
Hmmm.

Mickel, Hannity said last night on FOX that he was going to send Obama’s brother 1,000 dollars.

Victoria that is GREAT news! The guy will be considered a wealthy man in his parts, I’m sure.
But that doesn’t really solve the problem about why the big BO didn’t reach across the Atlantic to do the same. I thought the big BO said something akin to “what you do to me you do the least of my brothers”? Maybe he botched the scripture worse than that – however, if the big BO REALLY cared about the “least” – he would be pro-life and would throw his half-sibling at least a twenty and a multi-pack of gum?!?!? Or something?

Mickel,
He (Obama) isn’t interested in the unborn, we can see this, he makes it clear that he doesn’t care, if he did, his heart with melt towards those little infants – instead its hard.
