Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly chance to sound off about the week past. Remember the rules:

I finished writing my spiritual memoir yesterday.

It was inspired by WorldMagBlog posters.

Not necessarily for good reasons.

It doesn’t match the proposal.

So now I have to reframe it–which means a near total rewrite.

But I’m going to leave a copy in the current state for my family–because it’s a lot of fun.

The Lord has given me a life full of blessings and I am deeply grateful.

Rant: I have made a solemn vow never to call or patronize a business that reads a phone number three times on the radio. I know, they’ve made studies but it still irritates me. In Washington, radio station WMAL used to close every comment or announcement by saying “WMAL, depend on it.” I learned to anticipate that and punched the button before they said it. I often forgot to return.

Rave: Elvera bought gasoline for 3.499 in Greenville, SC., It’s $3.619 at BP here.

Rant: Fay is dropping all her rain in Florida and we ain’t getting none. Maybe next week. Can you imagine hoping for a hurricane?

Sorry for the double. I clicked post, it just sat there and did nothing. So, I went back to my word processor, re-copied and re-sent.

Rave: Gas stations out in the suburbs are having price wars, so I filled up at 3.199 Wednesday–a full 20% cheaper than the high of a month ago.

Rant: that #1 is a rave instead of a rant. (And it’s still above $3.50 overall in this area.)

Rave: that I’m close enough to nearly everything to walk. I just got back from driving my car to get an oil change, and I walked home with Misten. When they call me this afternoon, I’ll walk back over and pick it up. (It will be too hot for Misten to accompany me then.)

Rave: I’m caught up on work, pretty much the first time in a month.

Rant: That means I have no further excuse not to declutter.

Rave: My loved one with cancer (in treatment in Mexico) is doing better this week than last week. (Last week her husband reported incredible pain.)

Rant: The clinic doctor told her husband, “She’ll get better. She’s doing all the right things.” Since she has been doing “all the right things” for three years and it still progressed to stage four cancer, it’s a little hard to believe such a doctor isn’t a quack.

Rave: Thank God for this virtual community (even the atheists, who are voluntarily hanging out with Christians).

One week of school complete, and I haven’t thrown a student out the window yet.
The I wish I could are too big for me to lift!
One who almost failed Spanish 2 is in Spanish 3. He is a Senior, and only took Spanish so he wouldn’t have to eat lunch with the Freshman. He acts like an 8th grader.

Cooler weather!

Gasoline at $3.469 and dropping!
Oil up $5 yesterday.

Russia rattling its sabers.
The possibility of another cold war.
The hope of the return of the Lord!
Regardless of wars and rumors of wars, GOD is in control!!

Rave! We received a large donation for our rice project. Now we’ll be able to buy a 100lb bag of rice for every family in our village and also one for each of our employees. As more funds come in we will give to nearby villages.

Rave! We had a really good meeting in another village.

Rave! My niece found a great place for us to stay when we go to me nephew’s wedding in Seattle next summer.

Rave! Future co-workers were here to visit and were able to help out with a lot of things.

Rant! They have to go home and finish raising their support.

Rants – from last night:

My granddaughter (aged 2) broke her arm

My mother-in-law had a heart attack
then
My duaghter’s good friend lost her mother (long battle with cancer)

Rant: While this blog does not allow posters to make personal attacks on each other [a very good thing], we are being subjected to more and more PERSONAL attacks on presidential candidates every day. I have seen some topics on which I normally would have posted, but didn’t even open to read because there was no doubt in my mind about the sort of nasty comments that would appear there.

I think it’s perfectly fine to comment on disagreement with a candidates position on the issues, but the personal attacks day after day are, to say the least, tiresome.

Recent posts by Arcadia that reminded me that the liberal and/or nonchristian members of WOW are not angry, hyperventilating fanatics, but in fact normal people who are (for the most part) pretty fun to hang out with.

My husband starts school next week.

My son is very excited to start Kindergarten the following week.

My son is old enough to start Kindergarten.

My summer Bible study is over, and I can’t work the next one into my schedule.

Now that the study is over, I can get to some reading I haven’t had time for!

My parents are coming to help us with the kidlets next week. Husband back to work + no daycare = big problems. Thanks, KI and dad! Both kiddos are looking forward to their visit!

We get to be with the grandkids next week!

My uncle died this week.

He had Parkinson’s and was ready to go.

His brother is not doing well with his cancer. Prayers for Tim are always appreciated.

So far younger son seems to be doing very well in 3rd grade, even without the aide who had been with him since kindergarten (there’s another now, but of course change is always tough for him). I think he’s very glad to be back in school with a structured day and other kids to play with.

Our cluttered house is getting cleaned up, finally. With my husband working 7 nights a week for over a year things had gone downhill (I do the kitchen and laundry, he and the boys normally take care of dusting, vacuuming, and generally keeping things picked up). But after the death of our dog a couple weeks ago my husband decided that we needed everything picked up in order to be ready to take in a puppy (a co-worker has offered to give him one that is 7/8 lab and 1/8 English pit bull, very good temperament, we’re told) in a few weeks once it has been weaned. A few concentrated days of effort are making a world of difference.

No signs of the 7-nights-a-week schedule letting up anytime in the near future. I would much rather we could work together on training the puppy, but I guess the fact one of us is almost always home is a plus when it comes to making sure she (I’m pretty sure we’ll get a female) can go out right away when she needs to.

My husband has been feeling poorly the last few days, with sinus congestion and coughing as well as being very tired. Today my throat started feeling scratchy too.

A co-worker who is known for his green teas (and has gotten those who sit near him drinking it also) gave me advice on making green tea the right way (i.e. not from a Lipton teabag!), and is going to get me a jar of local honey from his next-door neighbor who is a beekeeper (I’ve been looking for local honey since I moved here but hadn’t seen any, and didn’t even know if there was any available).

This green tea will take some getting used to. I can’t say exacty what it tastes like, but it reminds me vaguely of visiting the coast of Maine. Note: while I was typing this my co-worker came over to see how the tea was, and explained to me that it probably does actually have some fishiness to it, because it’s from Japan and that’s what they like.

My throat is feeling better. And without having to numb my whole mouth with Chloraseptic.

Finally finished my daughter’s 500 word essay she needs to send in with her first college application to the U of A.

Had to do it twice because after I finished the first one (based on what my wife said the topic was) my daughter called to say I must be stupid, unusually insane or something else bad like being mangy and that I needed to focus because what I wrote ‘was totally wrong, off topic and didn’t make any sense’ – even to her. She sent me the real topic which was totally different than what my wife said it was. My wife had no explanation for that miscue for some reason.

My daughter said she will probably be able to use the first one I wrote but just needs a little time to find the right college to apply to where its fits OK. A fine liberal arts school in Botswana or Benin might work. She like B’s. Her HS councilor said it is one of her better traits and she would make a fine riverboat captain if Mark Twain was alive. Oddly, that is exactly what the NAVY told me when I finally escaped them – alive. I know what you are wondering. No I don’t know why all the kids in B countries go to college here in the good old USA – unless their schools are too hard to get into there or their kids are way dummer than ours are – which seems impossible enough to me in this….. state I have worked myself into, quite by accident I assure you.

My daughter said I have to write another one for the University of Texas but I told her I wasn’t smart enough to get into there. She said she would be the judge of that and told me I had a Friday deadline – midnight tonight. I’ve decided to write it drunk. My wife says I sound smarter to her when I am a little tipsy and my daughter says she thinks I am way smarter when I’m drunk as s skunk. I don’t think she has ever seen me that way but I am old and don’t remember stuff like I should because my brain is full or possibly damaged – but you can be the judge of that – it’s way over my pay grade. I do know that professors at snooty schools, the ones that are the hardest to get into (even though Obama got into Columbia and Harvard), sound pretty drunk to me but that may be the coke and meth talking.

My wife said she was going to retire and go off to college with our daughter next year because she didn’t think she could let go and God knows our little llama needs some serious help. I though it best that she should go away too. Mommas should take care of their babies and not kill them for sport or convenience – no matter how old they are.

So, I get to retire next year too, move back home to a peaceful and quiet pasture, and possibly go to some local college, or vo tech school my daughter wouldn’t dare go to even if she could get into it with her own essay.

Thankfully all llamas look alike but, we do smell slightly different. Ususllay only a well trained, possibly a prominent, if crooked, French nose can tell. You also can’t tell a llama by his spit, no matter how hard you try or smart you are when you’re drunk – but that is another story for another time.

Ya’ll have a great weekend and don’t worry, the South will rise again, as soon as the 143 year occupation ends or the sun don’t – shine by the light of the moon.

Barr pointed out that McCain himself fought similar attempts to force him from the New York ballot in 2000, and pulled out a quote that the Republican used eight years ago:

Cheryl, Llama, It’s been so long ago that I barely remember, but the first assignment in our English 101 (It was English 11 back then.) on the first day in class was to write an essay on a given subject; in class. I suspect the professor wanted to check us out.

Addenda to #24:

My co-worker’s beekeeper friend no longer has any honey or bees, as they all died of some disease which they apparently caught from other bees in the area (bees that were not supposed to be freely flying around but were).

My scratchy throat has developed into a definite cold, complete with runny/stuffy nose (it alternates between the two) and sinus congestion.

WMB is back up!

Either my smileys (and unsmileys) are not working in this new blog software, or the new preview feature doesn’t display them properly
