Good morning…
Today’s quote is from one of my favorite theologians:
“God has willed that we should seek and find his living Word in the witness of a brother, in the mouth of a man. Therefore, the Christian needs another Christian who speaks God’s Word to him. He needs him again and again when he becomes uncertain and discouraged, for by himself he cannot help himself without belying the truth.”

I’ve asked this question before, but it has been a while and since there are a whole new crop of posters, I’d like to ask it again. What do you fear the most from the “other side” winning the culture war?
Report comment to moderator
KBells – God’s judgment on our nation. And that’s more of a grieving than a fear. Since God Himself is in control, there is nothing to fear for those who call upon the name of the Lord.

Answer: Tyranny. Ooops I AM on the other side, aren’t I?
Ok, more seriously: the Piper quote reminds me of Rom 10, “how shall they hear?” The danger about the culture wars has always been that they become our version of tithing mint and cumin, where we major in the performance issues but neglect the reality underneath.
Here’s to open ears.

How do we know it’s a culture war and not just a culture game?
Report comment to moderator
I do believe that God is in control, but there are healthy things to fear anyway. He gives us fear as a gift. It keeps us from those things that may hurt us. A fear of moving traffic keeps us off busy roads.
It didn’t take long for the children of the Israelites to move from a country with a healthy fear of God and a belief that He provided for them to one in which they had to provide for themselves in any way they could. Some of those ways were evil and ended up in many people suffering. Their going after false gods ended up in child sacrifice. Allying themselves with evil kings led to their accepting practices that in the long run hurt many, many of their people.
Although, there are good and evil people within every society, the bent of the society can be good or evil. Good or evil kings made a difference in Israel. Although we do not have a theocracy, voting for those who do not see a need for God or who have a distorted view will lead to distortions growing. That affects how we treat others. Evil practices become common place and are even encouraged. Future generations will have a hard time knowing who God really is. That is what I fear.

Barack Obama has TV spot out claiming he worked his way through college. I find myself drawn to this since I too worked my way through college having worked 32 hours a week each of my 5 years in Architectural school and working full time as truck driver every summer and during college breaks so that I could graduate without any loans. I also was on the GI bill too.
Obama said he he worked his way through college and law school in his two books he wrote that he worked as a construction person of some kind one summer while at Columbia but didn’t like physical work and that he worked for a while as an intern at a law firm while at Harvard.
His wife said that the two books Obama wrote finally paid off their college loans that were more than their mortgage payment a month and that is saying something since they had over a $1 million mortgage payment to make even with the great terms Tony Rezko got for them.
I am a little confused as to the truthfulness of all of this and wonder why the Obama’s are now ducking all questions as to how Barack actually had his tuition paid for at Columbia and Harvard – since he obviously did not work his way through college and had some kind of loans too. You would think as smart as he is, being a god an all, that he would have had some kind of scholarship or something. The Nation of Islam is also not denying that they helped pay for Barack’s college either and this little tidbit is now being confirmed – obviously Barack Obama would not accept any money form Muslims since he was a fine Christian who was stuck with a Muslim sounding name he had no control over.
I’m sure that the Obama’s will come clean eventually once they make some kind of believable story to explain it all one way or another.

You know, some color around here would be a little easier on the eyes, and might make this place more inviting. The blue of the old mag page was nice. Or perhaps a pastel yellow, green or blue, as those colors stimulate the mind. (Just not pink, Victoria.
)
I hear you, Cheryl D. I cannot get here as much any more with school starting again.
As for the culture war- Harris @ #8 is on to something. I am a Christian, and I consider myself a Conservative/Libertarian. I get tired of the Robertson/Dobson/Falwell leaders speaking “for me”. The preachers should be preaching the salvation of Christ to a dying world. If they did that, and were successful, then the “culture war” would be over, as everyone (at least the majority) would be moral citizens.

Peter L,
I had to stay away for a few days because of the horrible Red color of the blog. Chinese say it is good luck, Russians say it makes them feel like masters of the world and I was taught red is a violent color in Architectural school. It bothers me when Commies agree a color will help make them master of the world, their flags are red as blood and architects are taught that red can cause people to go insane and kill each other. It’s kind of creepy if you ask me.
I agree then old site was much nicer but I am sure they paid a pretty penny to some consultant to pick the color most likely to convert non believers to Christianity – or at least scare the heck out them.

I also want to know why Obama didn’t mention his 3 week trip to Karachi Pakistan in 1981 in either of his two books. He happened to be there when the country was under martial law and riots were breaking out all over the place and only Muslim could get into the country then – or wanted to since most sane folks stayed away from there like the plague. I know know was close to his Pakistani Muslim roommates but you would think that Obama would have better judgement that to go visit when the country was under martial law and people were getting killed in the streets.
At the very least you would think that his trip overseas would be a big deal and that he would write about how cool it was for him and what he learned like he did about everything else in his life.
He did say, in a speech, that his trip gave him international experience that qualified him as being more knowledgeable about the world than McCain – even though Mccain has traveled to and met the heads of state of 80 foreign countries including Pakistan on several occasions. Barack said he knows the people and Mccain only knows what was staged for him and that 30 years in the Senate doesn’t make one at all knowledgeable about the world. I guess that was why Obama who knows the real scoop picked “the insufferable know it all” Senator from Delaware as his foreign expert and running mate.
I would like to know who paid for his Pakistani trip at a time when only Muslims could travel there during martial law, why he never mentioned it in his books and it just happened to be a trip of perfect length to go to an Islamic terrorist training school that some of his friends attended
I’m sure he answers to these questions the MSM won’t ask him for some reason. The Dems really have to do a better job of vetting their Marxist candidates.

Good Morning everyone. Thaought I would drop by and update you. I quit working at the car dealership last Wednesday. Thursday and Friday I took the state insurance crash course and tomorrow I take the licensing exam. I start my new job Monday. I will be managing a brokers database and cross selling to his existing customers. My old boss at the dealership lined this up for me and it is a little more money. I talked to my stepbrother today and he is going to help me out some due to some investments my dad had made with him that went bad due to all the hurricanes a couple of years ago. For those of you who knew I was going to be filing bankruptcy, I didn’t. I started making payments again although not the full payments. My credit is shot but I have my dad’s truck, my truck, and his house so what more could I need to buy at this time. Somehow everything works out and I can see God’s hand in everything.

Wow, Kim, that’s great! Congratulations on the new job, I know you’ll do well on the test tomorrow.
KBells’ questions is interesting, and so are the answers so far. Since I don’t have kids and I probably have about 30 years left (maybe, all things being equal), I’d have to say that personally, my fear would be that when I’m old, I’ll be ruled unworthy to live, not cost effective, and I’ll be knocked off by the state. Other single people I know have said the same thing. But in a broader sense, I think if people think it’s bad now work wise, it’ll only get worse. I read that in Japan workers are in short supply because they legalized abortion already in 1949. I think the gap between the rich and the poor will widen even more, and the government will be controlling your and your childrens’ lives in a way that was never intended. They will tell you who can go to college, what job you have to do, etc., etc. I think the Constitution will be used to legalize a totalitarian government, and the US experiment will fail. But that’s what happens when you turn on the tried and true precepts found in the Bible.

Read Scripture and see its commands and its stories about interaction between believers and unbelievers. Take a look around the world at where Christians are in the minority, where they suffer and die for their faith but still love those who would oppress and kill them. Or just spend some time on a Christian blog, be increasingly hostile to Christians without cause, and see if they continue to love and care about you. (That’s your experiment, right? I want to see the results someday. I’d love to have you become “one of us” someday and know the love and forgiveness of Christ.)

The only big unknown left for the Marxists at their Denver convention is – who is the mystery entertainer going to be? Since this is Whack Job Central it could be any number of insane overpaid entertainer types like Madonna or Springsteen but llamas are guessing that Obama has been praying to his daddy for 4 things to happen at this convention – one of which was to allow Barack to prove his divinity by allowing him to raise George Harrison and John Lennon from the dead so that the Beatles could be the surprise entertainers at the Marxist convention.
The whack jobs don’t need to settle for no filthy Madonna or Springsteen even if they performed together when god could easily get the Beatles to play for his children one more time.
I guess you are wondering what the other 3 things are that Barack was praying to his daddy for. One was that he was asking to have a heavy Wee Willy load lifted from him that he might be allowed to pick someone, anyone really, besides Hillary as his VP and running mate. Number 3 was he was asking that the Rapture happen right at the end of the Marxist convention so that it would be clear who was going to be the next president and number 4 was …. eeeerrrrr….. Wee Willy would only get 10 minutes to speak a the convention but he would have to do so, when his English speaking voice was suddenly taken from him, in Spanish and in Arabic for some reason. This was no problem since this is the new base of the Marxist party. ‘Women sure don’t mean much to the left anymore so I am talking to you in Spanish and Arabic because Obama told me too’ was his first words.
You got to love it.

ABC Reporter Arrested in Denver Taking Pictures of Senators, Big Donors
Asa Eslocker Was Investigating the Role of Lobbyists and Top Donors at the Convention
By BRIAN ROSS
Aug. 27, 2008
DENVER–Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic Senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown’s Palace Hotel.
Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.
____________________Another QUOTE from article__________________
About 15 minutes later, on-duty Denver police arrived and placed Eslocker under arrest after Eslocker asked why he was being ordered away from the front of the hotel. Dozens of pedestrians can be seen walking by the hotel, located in the heart of downtown Denver.
Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.

“What do you fear the most from the “other side” winning the culture war?”
I had to pay union dues for years and years. There was very little that union did that I agreed with.
I am afraid that the Democrats will make me spend $ on things I find wrong and/or abhorent; ACORN, Planned Parenthood. I will also get stuck paying for things that are supposed to work but don’t; Universal Pre-School, nationalized Healthcare.
I know that they will intrude more and more into my life. We have about half of our 5 acres of second growth timber on our lands “off-limits” for harvesting now. There is a skunk cabbage swamp on it. It is wet in the wet season and can dry up in the dry season.
As of Jan, 2008, all new houses in CA have to be tested for soil liquification. This can add $15,000 to the cost of a house. There are many places where there is no chance of soil liquification.
There is a new law that makes it required for there to be a plan to stop soil run-off into streams and rivers. Have you seen the Los Angeles River?
The time is coming when no church will be able to condemn homosexuality. (Canada, HRW?) There are moves toward NAMBLA. Public schools already push for acceptance of “alternative lifestyles.” Homosexuals want special rights that make them equal to others. (But some will be more equal.)
I remember talking to a Somostista in the plumbing dept. at Home Depot. He told the difference between living under Somosa and living under the Sandinistas. Under Somosa you were poor but you could raise a pig and eat the pig. Under the Sandinistas you were poor but you could raise a pig, the Sadinistas woulld take your pig and give you a leg.
Liberals always know better than the rest of us. They will fix everything if we just give them enough time and $. If they don’t fix something it is because they need more time and $.

Anlir is ON TO US! Hell’s bell’s. How in the blue blazes did he figure it out? WE HAVE A SECURITY BREACH!
Miss Violet, my Sunday school teacher, will be REALLY MAD at this penetration of security in the Christian Army of Occupation.
Sure, she looks like a doddering old gray-haired lady with waspy-looking spectacles and hairpins sticking out of her old-fashioned fruit hat, smells like mothballs and gingerbread cookies, still drives the same car that she drove away from the church on the day of her marriage 55 years ago, and speaks endlessly of ‘the dear departed Mr. Violet’, who (to listen to her) had the intelligence and grace of an Archangel of Heaven (although his pictures show him to be just an average joe kind of guy – which proves you can’t trust pictures).
Anyway, she is REALLY the Region Commander of the Christian Army of Occupation (CAO), trained in lethal hand-to-hand combat and explosives (also an expert in electronics warfare and sabotage), a lean muscular hardened heathen-killing machine, whose very whispered name in the movement inspires tremors of terror and admiration through all the ranks of the CAO everywhere.
She’ll be PLENTY upset about this security breach that the intrepid internet slueth, Anlir, has engineered, I can tell you that.
Why she will probably be so upset that she will burn the gingerbread she was supposed to bake for next Sunday’s church supper.

This is no joke. As I understand YOUR (I say that in the sense of the dominant view here) religion, Arianism (the belief that Jesus is a divine but created and subordinate being) and Socinianism (the idea that Jesus was not divine at all, 100% human but on a divine mission) are soul damning heresies. Indeed, the Nicene Creed settled this in 325AD. Yet, key American Founders — certainly the 2nd and 3rd Presidents, perhaps the first four Presidents! — believed in these purportedly soul damning heresies. Consequently these unitarian doctrines, in some profound way, impacted the American Founding — what America, in principle, is supposed to be all about.
One reason why I keep posting here is because of the theoretical import of this controversy. I could be like the typical atheist secular leftist (Dawkins, Hitchens, et al.) who dismisses all religion as nonsense. But no, I take religious ideas quite seriously. And I thought you all did too.

If I hear one more Marxist say that Bush’s tax cuts were for the rich when all Americans who make up the lowest 50% of American wage earners saw their portion of the income tax burden cut from more than 3.91% to 2.99% of the total a whopping 23.5% while the richest 5% of wage earning Americans saw their portion go from 56.47% to 60.14% of the total or a 7% increase. Today the top 55 wage earning American families, 6,785,900 of them, pay $615.7 Billion in income taxes or $90,732 each while the lowest 50% of wage earning American families, 67,859,580 of them, pay $30.5 Billion in income taxes or $449 each.
But, according to the Marxists the rich don’t pay enough and the poor pay too much and it is totally unfair and the rich are evil. I suppose it won’t be fair for a Marxist until the lowest 50% pay no income tax at all and their measly $30.5 Billion is shifted to the richest 5% raising their tax burden to %$95,227 each – up another 5% or so. What a bunch of thieves – but we might go for it if those Americans, who pay no income taxes, aren’t allowed to vote. We know they will never stop stealing from us.
Is it a deal?

Llama,
Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are both proposing tax plans that would result in cuts for most American families. Obama’s plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy.
There is a great graphical representation at the link above. Looks like McCain wants to cut his and heiress Cindy’s own taxes more than he wants to help us in the middle class.

“Homosexuals want special rights that make them equal to others. (But some will be more equal.)”
Two sentences loaded with contradictions. How is it that you get “special” rights to make you “equal”? If the answer is “some will be more equal” then why not just give homosexuals “equal” rights in the sense than we give race, color, ethnic origin, gender, pregnancy, religion, age, and disability such rights. Tell me please: Do these “protected classes” receive “equal” or “special” rights. Because that’s all that sexual orientation is asking for and deserves? And I remind you “religion” is a protected class. So if gay rights is about “special rights” they are just asking for special rights that you, as Christians, already receive.

BB and others: The biblical/Christian way of viewing gay rights would be as follows. The Golden Rule: “Whatever rights/privileges I as a Christian qua Christian receive in America, a homosexual qua homosexual should also receive.” If Christians can’t be discriminated in the private workplace because they are Christians (the way it now stands) then so too should be the case with homosexuals. This is what the Christian notion of equality is all about. If you reject this, then your selective reading of the Bible doesn’t support the idea of equality.

Fascism:
Fascism is an authoritarian nationalist political ideology and mass movement that is concerned with notions of cultural decline or decadence, and which seeks to achieve a millenarian national rebirth by exalting the nation or race, as well as promoting cults of unity, strength and purity.[1][2][3][4][5]
Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, militarism, authoritarianism, dictatorship, populism, collectivism, statism, social interventionism, and economic planning. In addition, Fascism opposes classical liberalism and communism.[6][2][1][7][8][9][10]

I have read that the biggest difference between Fascism and Communism is that Fascism is nationalistic and Communism is international.
What’s with this?

Bob,
So I shouldn’t be allowed to have a job? Who’s gonna support me? I shouldn’t be allowed to buy or rent a home? Who’s gonna take me in? I shouldn’t be allowed into stores to buy food, etc. Who’s gonna clothe me and feed me? I shouldn’t be allowed to go to the hospital? Who’s gonna take care of me? You want to deny me all these things and more simply because I’m gay. Conservative Christians like you are exactly why your faith isn’t worth the spit it takes to seal an envelope! Your faith is immoral and inhumane!

Anlir – Do you not have these rights as an American citizen? Why do you require special rights?
Job – You have to qualify just like everyone else. You should not be discriminated against unless you lack the proper job qualifications. (Yes, qualifications are discriminators). Should you be given preferential treatment on a job application because you are a homosexual? No. Compete with all the other applicants and don’t cry discrimination when another applicant gets hired over you, unless you have some real proof that an unqualified applicant beat you out because you are a homosexual. If you can’t prove it, then shut up.
Housing – Who’s stopping you from buying or renting a home? Can you afford the place where you’ve applied to live on the rental application? Can you afford your mortgage loan? Should you be discriminatied against on your rental or mortgage application because you are a homosexual? No. Unless you can prove that you didn’t get the loan or the apartment because you are a homosexual, then shut-up.
Are stores refusing to sell to you because you are a homosexual? If they are, do you really want to do business with their ilk? Your money is just as green as anyone else’s patronize other businesses.
Right now I can’t get long-term care insurance. I have been discriminatied against, because I am considered a health risk. Does your risky behavior make you a health rish for insurance purposes? I’m doing something about my problem, but I am not running around trying to make the insurers out to be bad guys. What are you doing about your risky behavior?
This time I am going to paint you with a slightly broader brush than usual. My husband’s cousin was ga homosexual, and he died of aids. We were friends. (I know you probably find it hard to believe that a dyed-in-the-wool conservative Christian can be friends with a homosexual, but that is neither here nor there.) He was very in your face about his homosexuality, and had been disowned by menbers of his immediate family. BTW – He thought of me as more of a sister than his won sister. He had a game that he ran on everyone and I didn’t buy it. He would say things, hateful things and also give out TMI about his sex life just for the shock value. He was a jerk, and he went out of his way to alienate others and then accused them of shunning him because of his homosexuality. Sound familiar, Anlir? It’s the game you’re playing too. Broad brush alert: You two are not the only homosexuals whom I’ve encountered who like to play this game.
Some people act like jerks and some people just are jerks, and sexual orientation, skin color and any other number of things people use to discriminate have nothing to do with how these people are treated. People don’t want to be around jerks or people who act like jerks.
Anlir, you can play this game on this blog all you want, that will not stop the Christians on here from loving you and being concerned about you, but there is a difference between loving and liking. Anlir, I love you as a member of this community, but lately, I just don’t like you very much. And you’re the one who has the power to change that.
The ball is in your court.

From your post
“Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, militarism, authoritarianism, dictatorship, populism, collectivism, statism, social interventionism, and economic planning. In addition, Fascism opposes classical liberalism and communism.[6][2][1][7][8][9][10]“
If you substitute internationalism for nationalism it sure seems to fit with communism. Like I said, Fascism is nationalistic and Communism is internationalistic.

I didn’t know you were gay.
Gayness is nothing that I take into account when I am doing business. It doesn’t matter to me. God says it matters to Him. I think I will let God take care of it.
God says that sins like homosexuality or infidelity are sins against our own body. We will get the reward for our own sin in our own body.
About half of high school girls have had sex. Half of them have an STD. One out of four high school girls has an STD. “The wages of sin is death.” What are the wages of premarital sex?
What commonly goes along with the highly promiscuous life style of many Gay men? STDs
Go ahead, tell me how the Gay lifestyle is good, or acceptable, or right. If you tell me it is none of my business, then don’t expect to get extra government help for people with AIDS. Don’t expect that AIDS research should get more than it’s share. Don’t expect to get favors because of your gayness.

I think I discussed this before but fascism although it employs central planning is generally in favor of private initiative taking the lead and carrying out the wishes of the state (Blackwater, KBR, etc). Nationalism is the other distinction.
Canadians are allowed free speech against homosexuality just not homosexuals. The few incidents you read of were for the most part deliberately provoked.
“Gay lifestyle” is a vary ambiguous term — are you referring to the gay couple in the suburbs with kids? Is there a “straight lifestyle” ?
