A young blogger’s influence
When it came to vice presidential possibilities, not many people had Sarah Palin at the top of their list—or even on their list. One young man, however, did, and he started promoting her place on the ticket in late February 2007. That’s right, a year and a half ago. In one of the first posts of his Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President blog (dated Feb. 27, 2007), Adam Brickley, an early supporter of Rudy Giuliani for president, wrote about how his research on potential VPs that winter led him to Palin:
I decided that Sarah Palin had actually compiled a rather astounding record of achievements in her 42 years, and was more than capable of making the jump to the national level. So now I ask you who you would rather have as your Vice-President. You could accept conventional wisdom and choose from the lineup of old men currently being bantered about, or you could choose an inspiring leader like Sarah Palin. As for me, I’m going with “Sarah Barracuda”, a candidate who will help us win the election and then deliver solid results.
Brickley, a 21-year-old political science major at the University of Colorado–Colorado Springs and an intern at Townhall.com, has been given a lot of credit for the Alaska governor being selected as John McCain’s running mate. And last night he received a nice “thank you” phone call from the GOP VP pick and her husband, Todd.

It’s nice to read the the internet has been used for Republicans, too. To hear the Dems speak, only Obama knew how to use it.

Wow! This young man has a lot to be proud of.

It’s real classy for them to call this young man.
Real Class.

But isn’t there something just a little frightening here, too?
When a guy two-years out of high school starts wielding this influence, what does it say about the campaign and how it procsses information?
But if you were a college student — well, how-dee, this is another great example of youth-quake. Just ask the Obama-kins.

Harris, what’s frightening about a bright, young person using his God-given intelligence to be constructive? Too few young people are doing that. When they DO, let’s encourage them!

You do have to wonder about the McCain campaign when they accept VP advice from a 21 year old intern. A hail mary from the freshman quarterback
As much as I think Karl Rove is the devil incarnate, Rove has been banging his head against the wall all day and all night over this and given his strategic understanding of campaigns as opposed to a 21 year old intern the Republicans should worry.

hrw: The fact that you wish the Republicans would worry is not the same as whether or not they should actually worry.

Thank you Adam.
McCain’s stock dropped 2 points overnight on his vp news.
He’s currently under 40% in his chances to be elected.

With a little luck this young patriot may be responsible in no small way for electing the frist woman President of the USA.

As long as it fits their party line, some people will go along with any dumb idea.
I will hedge with two predictions:
a) In the coming years, this young man will become the next Karl Rove.
b) In the coming years, this young man will have a best-selling book based on his disillusionment.
20% chance both a and b will come true.

a 21 year old making the decision … well, that explains alot.

The fact that some Republicans aren’t worried about this choice, says something about their ….. blind faith, gullibility etc
Report comment to moderator
McCain is down to a 39.2% chance at the presidency now. Dropped 2.3% since opening today.
I love this kid!

hrw: What exactly is there to be worried about? You haven’t really made that clear. This is what happens when people like you start messing around with words you don’t understand, like “faith.” If you already have a logically deficient understanding of that word, then you can’t venture to lecture anybody on what blind faith is. If Palin is matched with Obama (and Biden notwithstanding, this will be without a doubt, a Palin vs. Obama matchup), her record blows his out of the water. That, is not blind faith. That is faith on something based on a logical analysis.
Btw, pick on this 21 year old all you like, but don’t forget that Obama is the Dem nominee because of a community of giddy, bulgy-eyed teens and adolescents who melted at his charms and never really researched the content of his speeches.

Palin was not properly vetted — she comes with a scandal still to be sorted and very little experience, its an odd choice that may look like he’s pandering. You may define faith as having logical analysis then in this case supporting Palin is not faith but delusion.

Has McCain died already?

adolescents don’t vote.

Hilary supporters not taking Palin too seriously;

Please note PUMA is a Republican front. Again, if Palin was properly vetted and tested, trial balloons should have been raised to see if the desired effect – Hillary votes — would occur. His move seems impulsive.

hrw: Dream on. It’s not that she wasn’t properly vetted. It’s that her opponents got nothing, but will never let go of the delusional pride that keeps them making accusations without proof (see scroop moth for example). I’m betting that a young woman who took on a bunch of fellow Republicans for their corruption is not gonna leave voters worried as to her uprightness. She’s clean, she’s shown it, and you know it. The blind faith is “well there’s a scandal, and we don’t know yet if she’s bad, but we think Republicans should pretend she is.” Bull.

Adolescents who vote (18 and older) and adolescents who don’t vote (younger than 18) are responsible for the rise of Obama. In fact, even exclusively so. Denying it is actually pathetic considering the Democratic party has bragged about that forever.

It’s funny to watch a Canadian trying to give Americans advice on how to vote. LOL
(That’s not a diss on HRW’s right to post here, of course. It’s just an observation.

Palin got booed today for bringing up Hillary at a campaign event

21 Strange as it may seem, I just find the choice bizarre and am trying to understand the justification. Sure I want Obama to win but why Palin — there’s too many loose ends.

Palin got booed because conservative voters can’t stand Hillary Clinton. You think it’s news that they boo her name’s mention? That’s funny!

I’ve commented in various places how I felt she was a hail mary and a bizarre decision.
Apparently he decided on Sunday not to select Lieberman whom he wanted. And for the next few days he considered Ridge, Romney and Pawlently but wanted to make an impression on the campaign. In the end it was a campaign decision not a governing decision. So based on a quick vetting process he picked Palin

Maybe not a hail mary, but a boise state statue of liberty play.

An Obama supporter talking about somebody not being vetted. Words fail me, because I am laughing too hard.
And what do people think? Adam Bickley ordered McCain to choose Palin, and he did? Come on!

The news of McCain picking Palin is priceless, Kyle, but it’s even more priceless to see the Leftists and homosexuals and all the other Bush-haters in a tizzy over the choice. I haven’t felt so optimistic about the future of American politics since Ronald Reagan was in office.

What’s funny is that people think having a woman on the ticket is going to get Hillary supporters to vote for McCain. Right.
Palin’s selection pleases two groups: The far-right Christians who are more interested in whether a candidate shares their extremist views than they are in the well-being of the country, or even their party … and Democrats.
Chortle and ‘woo-hoo’ all you like now, Jeffy. You will be crying in your Ovaltine when the votes are tallied.

SteveG, our extremist views used to be what most Americans believed. We are actually not the ones who have moved. We only look extremist to those who have moved to the extreme left. It’s a matter of perspective. Remember that prayer in school used to just be the norm, as did getting married before having babies. I could list many examples of how you paint as extreme what our grandparents thought was “normal.”
Outkast, you speak my mind exactly. Woo-hoo!

#33 You are so right, Kyle. My son-in-law is also a commercial fisherman in Alaska and thinks highly of Palin. May God protect her and give her wisdom.

The Hillary voters already felt disenfranchised by the Democrats, and many of them had been excited simply about seeing a woman in the White House (other than as First Lady). All indications (according to polls) appear to show them flocking to McCain/Palin.
Dittos to what KI posted in #34.
