Todd Palin: “Why not us?”
This afternoon Albert Mohler reposted on his blog an article he penned in early May, right after the birth of Trig Paxson Van Palin. In that article Dr. Mohler wrote:
Trig made news long before he was born, as Alaska’s citizens learned that their governor was pregnant. Then, for the Palins, the story got more complicated.
This past December, Sarah Palin was told that her baby was likely to have Down syndrome — just one extra chromosome. …
When he was told, Todd Palin quickly said, “We shouldn’t be asking, ‘Why us?’ We should be saying, ‘Well, why not us?’”
The Palins never considered aborting the baby. That means that Trig Palin is now in a very rare group of very special children, because it is now believed that the vast majority of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome before birth are being aborted.
Be sure to read Dr. Mohler’s complete article here.
ADDENDUM: Here’s a link to Dr. Mohler’s radio show from May 9, where he “explains why Trig’s very existence defies the Culture of Death and gives us all hope.” He plans to repeat this show on Monday’s broadcast.

Okay, I’ve been reading liberal blogs and just have to vent. Please excuse me BUT:
1) To all those folks (who will never see this, but I’m venting) who say how can Mommy Sarah take care of her five kids and be a VP I say – THE KIDS HAVE A DAD!!!!
2) And contrary to a number of posts I saw he is NOT an oil company executive! Get your facts straight. When she won the governorship he took a leave of absence from work. I don’t know where that stands now, but they are very obviously to anyone who takes time to find out a family that puts parenting as a priority dispite her high position.
3) Finally, to all those dear people who think this was a ploy to get the female vote: I think that is rediculous. Yes, this election is about issues. Okay, she is a pretty woman, but it is the issues that she stands for that have energized the Republicans.
4) Oh, sorry one more thing, to those who diss her as being too cozy with oil companies: one of her problems with folks who are miffed with her in AK is that she wants to increase taxes on oil companies. That is “cozy”?
AAaargh. venting off.

no problem AKMom. We love Palin here!

This little bundle which GOD gave the Palin’s will most likely bring them more joy than anyone can fathom.
Love is something that’s hard to identify, it tugs at your heart, it reaches into your soul, it brings joy even in dim light, when we can’t see the ending and understanding eludes us. It’s at these times we turn to GOD Almighty and thank HIM even when we can’t know the answers. Yes it is, WHY not US?
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Leviticus
21:17 Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.
21:18 For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,
21:19 Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,
21:20 Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;
21:21 No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.
21:22 He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.
21:23 Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them.
I, for one, think that this is plain ole crazy. I think that most people probably do. Praise the lord god. She is good.

Thanks for the reminder of the holiness of God, Scott. That’s something we don’t keep in mind enough in this current age — the perfectness God in the Old Testament commanded of His worshippers.
I’m so glad Jesus became the ultimately perfect sacrifice so we can now ALL “boldly approach the throne of grace, to find help in time of need.”

Thank you, Victoria, for post #5. I’m usually encouraged and blessed by your comments, which is one reason I come to these blogs, but this time, it was especially appropriate. I was taken ill at age 7, similar to polio, and have been left with some mobility limitations, but as in Philippians 4:8, I always look at my cup half full!
While some doctors were extraordinarily helpful and compassionate, others have been telling me what to do since I was seven years old. Doctors told my mother to “go home and take care of her other children,” implying that she should let me die! She did not, but instead pushed to get me the best education possible, even while I was still in a hospital. I ended up with a PhD in materials science and electrical engineering. Some doctors counseled me strongly against having children. I didn’t listen to them, and became pregnant. During my somewhat difficult pregnancy, a doctor counseled that I could have an abortion if I did it soon. I didn’t listen to that, either. In the end, with help from skillful doctors and God’s evident hand in everything, I had two healthy boys. Each of them made medical history! Bearing and raising them has certainly not been “convenient”, but the joy of seeing them grow and mature is immeasurable! God always gives us in our children the best that they are supposed to have, for His perfect plan for them. Our God makes no mistakes! This new VP (I’m “betting” they’ll be elected!!) is a great role model, and a precious testimony and example, for all of the “trash” that’s being put out about the Democrat’s sanctity of life, abortions and all, concepts of life.
Thanks to all of you for your comments on these blogs. I learn a lot – good and “questionably good”!

Todd Palin quickly said, “We shouldn’t be asking, ‘Why us?’ We should be saying, ‘Well, why not us?’”

Dad,
I’m humbled by your kind and gracious comments to me.
When a mother really loves, the LORD gives strength within, that is similar to Samson – it’s not physical but an inner strength to endure hardship, fueled by love, and our Savior who’s there every step of the way. Your mother must be one of the greatest, but it’s her love for you which was stronger than anything she had to do – reading about your own pregnancy’s, your education and now the mother of two boys, and their education, is an inspiration to all – it’s a medical miracle, but truly it’s GOD’s miracle and your dependence on HIM which gave you the strength you needed to forge ahead. You are one strong lady, your story and life has most likely touched more people than you realize.
You might never know what your remark means to me — “Our God makes no mistakes!” — but I know in my life it’s true, even though I don’t understand it, — haven’t for some years now. HE knows, and that’s what I depend on – I’m always taken with the great story of Joseph, how could his father or his son, ever envision the outcome, the 12 tribes of Israel – such pain, and loneliness Joseph and his father Jacob suffered, but their was a plan – and what a plan it was, we see it now unfolding before our eyes to this very day.
Your post has been a blessing to me this afternoon, I thank you.
GOD bless you my friend.

Scott,
You don’t quote all the other verses that commanded the people of Israel to take good care of the disabled, including the verse to “love your neighbor as yourself.”
The passage you quote is about qualification for the priesthood. Since the priests represented God to the people, He wanted them to appear physically perfect. It was a symbol. It had nothing to do with the worth of the individual.

Whether McCain/Palin win in November or not, the Palin story has the power to start a discussion on the wisdom of prenatal screening, and to change the face of the abortion debate forever. Gone are the days when reporters can accusingly ask pro-life candidates, “You mean you’d be opposed to abortion even in the case of a fetus known to have Down Syndrome???”
“Why not us?” he asks. I marvel at such maturity in a political climate populated by children.

For those of us who work in the political realm, Palin has been recognized for a while as one of the best and brightest rising stars (along with the likes of Bobby Jindal).
Her husband was not an “executive” – he was an oil field worker. No more an “executive” than a power company lineman.
The oil companies were not very happy with the tough way she oversaw them on the AK Oil & Gas Commission. They were not cozy at all.
The sliming job the Leftiest and MSM are working on her is all the proof an objective person would need to conclude that the Left is far worse than they accise the Right of being (perhaps by an order of magnitude or two) and the MSM is totally in the tank for Obama.
Palin is the sort of fresh, new reformer that leads to change – what Obama claims in his pretty rhetoric but whose years in the Illinois and US legislatures have never given even a glimmer of a hint of.

NJLAWYER, every hour that passes makes me more optimistic that McCain blew it. Palin was an intense hazard, reflecting both despair and hope. I’d it the audacity of impatience — because the dice don’t roll very long before they show your fate. As we know, McCain is addicted to casino craps, and has been itching to get back in the game (his advisors won’t even let him into private rooms).
I’m not gloating. It’s better we learn now that under pressure McCain throws the dice.
Still, I’ll be disappointed not to win this election on socialized medicine, taxing the rich, gas hogs, liberal justices, torture, wiretapping, bombing Iran, and marriage as a union between two persons of the same sex . . .McCain knew what he was doing. He couldn’t turn the election down the path of flag pins, the Messiah of Madrassaland, the mouths of volatile Black preachers, and his opponent’s lack of patriotism (Yes, JOEL MARK, McCain questioned Obama’s patriotism) without ramping onto the Santa Monica Freeway against oncoming traffic.

I feel much the same, Harris. I don’t know much about Palin one way or another. Most sources I read (other than this blog) seem to think Palin was a disastrous choice, but it seems she’s fired up the evangelicals, who were maybe looking for a reason to get fired up over an uninspiring candidate.
Not all evangelicals are happy, though.
>>>>>
I don’t see this as a pro-family pick at all! Moreover, I believe the conservative fervor over this pick shows how politicized Christians have become at the expense of maintaining a prophetic voice. I believe that Mr. McCain has proven with his VP pick that he is pro-victory, not pro-family. In fact, I believe this was the anti-family pick. I say that for at least two reasons.
First, if Mr. McCain was pro-family, he would want to see Mrs. Palin at home taking care of her five children, not headed to Washington to be consumed by the responsibilities of being second in command to the most powerful man in the world (or serving as the Governor of Alaska for that matter). Let me also say that I would have the same reservations about a man with five children at home seeking the VP office. It’s not exactly a pro-family job.
…
Not only do I believe that a pro-family candidate would prefer to see Mrs. Palin at home taking care of her children, I believe a pro-family candidate would also avoid validating and advancing our culture’s desire to completely erase gender roles. Much of the discussion about Mrs. Palin’s candidacy centers around her opportunity to “break through the class ceiling” and be a “role model for young women.” The same was said of Mrs. Clinton’s candidacy in the Democratic primary. But what does this mean?
Are we really saying that we want to completely erase the distinctions between men and women. Do we really believe that it is good for our country to promote the view that women are merely men who happen to be biologically capable of having children (when it does not interfere with career advancement, of course)? I don’t think so. What do we do with the Bible’s admonition in Titus chapter two? Are Christian conservatives saying that Paul’s instructions concerning women’s duty to be “keepers of their homes” has somehow been overturned in light of recent discoveries? Or are we saying that pro-family means one thing when we’re in church, but something else when we’re trying to beat the Democrats?

Donna: Interesting how much angst there is over this vp pick, no? I see that as a good thing.
If there is angst, it’s because McCain picked a lightweight vp candidate over far more qualified people for what seem to be cynical reasons (to get a woman on the ticket.) And because, while we Demcrats are pretty confident that the decision makes an Obama victory much more likely, there’s always the chance that McCain could win, and that means there’s a chance Palin could become president.
McCain’s willingness to put the future of our country in serious jeopardy for the sake of picking up a small number of votes is really frightening to anybody who cares more about the country than about the Republican party … which of course leaves out chuckleheads like Outkast and Victoria, but hopefully most voters will be smarter.
I am pretty sure that for every extreme rightist Christian vote he gets for Palin, he loses two from moderate Republicans who like lower taxes and smaller government but don’t want an extreme rightist running the country — the ones who were excited about McCain before he made this inexplicably bad choice. But if I am mistaken about that and Palin ends up a heartbeat away from the presidency, things could get very bad.

#29: Scott, Kyle already answered you there. Those are qualifications for the priesthood (”the seed of Aaron”) you have quoted. Unless little Trig plans on growing up, converting to Judaism, and becoming a Levitical priest (difficult, since there is no Temple and he is not a Levite), he doesn’t have much to worry about there.
Report comment to moderator
TJ, old friend, did I say it applied to Trig specifically? This is just showing gods position on handicapped Levitical priests. She clearly does (OK, did, to be fair, maybe she changed her position) have something against them in not allowing it. Enough for her to document it in her best seller and moral compass.
You know TJ, the bible would be a lot better if you could just get rid of that OT. Before there was a NT, the OT showed all of gods opinions and positions on so much stuff. After jesus came around (we were enlightened a little) things lightened up quite a bit to make this SO much more palatable. The problem is dealing with the legacy this is the OT. Call it “history”, which at best, is horrific. Christians hate that.
Report comment to moderator
NJLawyer:
But that’s not McCain’s opinion of it. He has never said “I have so much experience it doesn’t matter who I pick.” He has repeatedly said that the first qualification of a VP choice was whether she was ready to be “a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
Do you believe Palin is ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?
Karl Rove doesn’t.

did I say it applied to Trig specifically?
Then why post a statement about the qualifications for Levitical priesthood on this thread? All you have demonstrated (once again, old friend) is that you have a penchant for reading things from the OT a-contextually (and apparently only in the KJV). You object that the Levitical priesthood was restricted to descendants of Aaron without physical deformity. When “called out on it” by Kyle, you simply ignore his explanation. When redirected, you say you aren’t even talking about Trig. So, you have posted something completely irrelevant that has nothing to do with Trig nor with this thread.
Perhaps your objections could be sated if you acknowledged the connection between the OT and the NT, specifically in the person of Jesus Christ. The OT priesthood foreshadowed the final Great High Priest who would present Himself as One holy and w/o blemish in order to atone for sin. I would recommend to you the book of Hebrews (perhaps in a translation other than the KJV, since modern English would be easier to digest) to help explain these connections. I would even be happy to discuss these things with you at length in another forum. I have no desire to hijack a thread by discussing a matter completely unrelated to Trig Palin (which even now you admit your comments have nothing to do with).

JJF, since when do you care about Rove’s opinion?
Rove thought Bush would be a good president. Not that I don’t think so; but what do you think about that?
Rove is a good strategist in the business-as-usual type of politics. In case you missed it, this is different. McCain introduced Palin as someone who can help him shake up that business-as-usual stuff.

I also do it to point out the hypocrisy of many on the Right. In case you didn’t follow my link, that comment was actually made about Obama when Rove thought he would pick Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. I have no doubt that if Obama had picked him, that would have been the Republican talking point: Obama cares more about winning than making a good choice.
But I highly doubt you’ll hear Rove or other pundits on the Right using Palin’s lack of experience as evidence that McCain cares more about winning than making a good choice.
In fact, to my mind it manifestly demonstrates that Rove and other pundits on the Right care more about winning than about making good choices for the country. That’s the Turdblossom System — crafting a perpetual majority, using politics to stay in power.

Todd Palin is not a stay at home dad. He works. He is a manager with the oil company he has worked for. So who takes care of the baby? Has to be either a nanny or the 17 year old daughter.
Palin returned to work 2 DAYS after the birth. Real bonding there.
Everyone says that Palins personal life is off limits. Fine. Then she and McCain and ALL the other politicians (Democrats included) should butt out of our persona lives. Don’t tell us about how we should educate our children on sex, don’t tell us whether we should or should not have abortions, don’t tell us whether gays should or should not get married. Basically put if they want some portion of personal lives left private, how bout we do that with all and politicians get their noses out of telling everyone how to run theirs?

Not totally true. He is a manager. Read Wikipedia. He was a field worker for a while while his wife was in negotiations with BP. Then later went back to his management job with them. Good for him on doing that.
Palin does have an edge…here is a letter to editor she wrote before getting into politics:
Move Iron Dog to Arizona to please people who can’t handle Alaska
What is this? Alaska’s Iron Dog race is canceled due to mild winter
conditions that may cause “safety concerns for the racers”?
This, after the race board of directors voted to increase the snowmachine
engine limit to 1000 cc, thus allowing machines that travel at 130 mph.
This, after 19 years of running this rugged, uniquely Alaskan event where
rookies and veterans willingly accept the inherent challenges in the world’s
longest snowmachine race.
This, just two weeks before the start of this internationally known event
that helps put Alaska on the map.
This decision was made by those who say they’re now worried about injuries,
possible environmental damage and potential lawsuits resulting from
less-than-perfect winter conditions along the demanding route.
This is Alaska, and this is the Iron Dog! It’s not supposed to be easy, and
conditions aren’t supposed to be perfect! If organizers are looking for a
perfect trail, then let’s move the thing to a pretty, groomed trail in a
state like Arizona where more bureaucratic, politically correct, cautionary
rules and regulations will create the risk-free environment some are
evidently seeking.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Alaska’s Iron Dog gets canceled
because it’s concluded it’s now too challenging, even for the experienced
racers who are willing and raring to go.

Falling exam passes blamed on Wikipedia ‘littered with inaccuracies’
Published Date: 21 June 2008
By MARTYN McLAUGHLIN
WIKIPEDIA and other online research sources were yesterday blamed for Scotland’s falling exam pass rates.
The Scottish Parent Teacher Council (SPTC) said pupils are turning to websites and internet resources that contain inaccurate or deliberately misleading information before passing it off as their own work.
The group singled out online encyclopedia, which allows entries to be logged or updated by anyone and is not verified by researchers, as the main source of information.
Standard Grade pass rates were down for the first time in four years last year and the SPTC is now calling for pupils to be given lessons on using the internet appropriately for additional research purposes “before the problem gets out of hand”.
