I could have sworn I heard that Caylee's father was killed in a car accident, but you'd think his parents would care.

From hockey moms to a homicidal mom. ..
Why do we still not know anything about little Caylee Anthony's father? We see the mother, Casey, all the time! Where's the child's father?
If it were my kid I'd be banging on the police depts front door every day at 6am!

I am married to an actual Hockey Mom (maybe former Hockey Mom, our player is grown and we're waiting to see if we become hockey granparents in the near future).

kbells - That much practice at th T-ball level is absurd; the coach will ruin even those players who might have advanced to high levels.

I didn't let my son play at the highest level of youth hockey until after he started to physically mature. It is pretty pointless (and financially draining) before that.

KBells, that's admirable. That way his life won't be consumed by one thing, and if it went south for him, he'd be devastated.

I sometimes wonder what motivates some parents. It's a game. They are all games. I would want my kid to excel, too, and be a team player, but there's more to life than sports. Sometimes I think the schools work more against kids and families by putting such emphasis on winning to the exclusion of everything else. They require time from the kids that should be used for church, family time and homework. No one can do it all as an adult, so no child should be expected to either. What's odd is that the parents are more into some of this than the kids.

I think while no one's paying attention to them, the NASCAR dads will determine this elections outcome.

I was struck by these two quotes.

"Dinners and holidays get sacrificed as the season picks up.'
"When it comes to Sunday church services, another mom jokes, "We all pray to the hockey god."

A tee-ball coach (6 and 7 year olds) where my son played baseball held practices five days a week. That's ridiculous. I have been told by his uncles, his coach and even his doctor that my son is a natural athlete, but even if they all promised me untold scholarships, sacrificing his family, his school work and his God for a sport that he has a one in a million chance of making a living at is just stupid.
