“I’m not President Bush”
John McCain is looking in the eyes of Barack Obama, seeing if he can flap him.
“I’m not President Bush. If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should have run four years ago.”
A little later he said that Obama had outright lied about McCain’s policies.
He has had some aggressive moments so far, and has forced Obama to explain his connections with Bill Ayers and ACORN. He also made sure he wasn’t sheepish about his supporters or Gov. Sarah Palin, both of whom have been under scrutiny in the media.
Some words are appearing that haven’t much in debates, with the exception of the candidates’ discussions with Rick Warren in August: immigration, stem cell research…but so far they haven’t really talked about them.
I think Bob Schieffer is doing a good job.

One of my favorite lines from this debate. While I do not know if McCain “won” he did do much better than the last two.

Obama can’t stay on track —- the whole Ayers issue was transparent to anyone who has followed this for years, although Obama snickered and laughed like a school boy, who was just caught, but tries to wiggle out of the situation -

I agree Emily, I too thought Bob Schieffer did a good job. And McCain’s “I’m not Bush, if you wanted to run against Bush, you shoulda run 4 yrs. ago” line was one of the best in the debate.

My wife and I and two of our friends sat in a movie theater surrounded by Democrat activists at a “debate party on the big screen” tonight, and the room literally feel silent when McCain made this statement . . . except for the clapping and cheers of four individuals in the middle of the crowd.

I didn’t get to hear the whole thing (I worked during the greater part of the debate, and had to close to a radio during the last part of my shift in order to catch anything), but the “I’m not Bush” line was definately one of the best I heard all night. If not a definate win, I think this debate will help to revive the Republican ticket a little bit.
Well, hopefully.

Victoria: Initially the plan by the theater was to have a room for the Republicans and a room for the Democrats, and since I consider myself a Conservative more than a Republican (I won’t be voting straight-party this election), I was planning to implant myself (much as the Leftists on the blog have done) in the Democrat room.
However, the theater combined everyone into one room this evening, which made things MUCH more interesting.

I wish I had my camera with me tonight. I was wearing a Ross Perot t-shirt, with two “Re-Elect George W. Bush Buttons” over my breasts (I called them my Bush Breasts) and a “Friends Don’t Let Friends Vote Democrat” button over my navel.

It was a good line, but he missed some followup opportunities:
“…you should’ve run four years ago. Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot. Four years ago you were an Illinois State Senator holding meetings in Bill Ayer’s living room.”
“…you should’ve run four years ago. Or eight years ago, when I ran against him. I was running against George W. Bush when you were still ACORN’s lawyer.”

Yes, those would have been great responses, Stubob!

And Outkast is alive to tell the tale!
I, too, wish McCain had been able to let loose.
