Suing God
State Sen. Ernie Chambers has served a record 38 years in the Nebraska legislature. He has been known to criticize Christians and always skips the morning prayers at legislative sessions. Last year he filed suit against God. According to the Associated Press:
He said God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents in Omaha, inspired fear and caused “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.”
Yesterday, Douglas County District Court Judge Marlon Polk threw the suit out of court, writing:
“Given that this court finds that there can never be service effectuated on the named defendant this action will be dismissed with prejudice.”
Chambers countered with:
“Since God knows everything, God has notice of this lawsuit.”
Chambers has 30 days to appeal the decision.

The people of Nebraska have kept this character in office for 38 years?
Report comment to moderator
Sure God knows of the lawsuit, but how would Chambers collect if he won? How would God take the stand?

Now see, here was an opinion by a trial judge that needed a little humor. And what do we get? “…there can never be service effectuated on the named defendant…”

Whe it was filed I predicted dismissal for lack of service of process.

NJLawyer,
Actually, that came across as humorous when I read it.

Okay, Pauline, but “effectuated” just doesn’t make me laugh.

I’m from Nebraska– and I’m not a racist, just a realist. Chambers is black, from a predominately black district. Many Nebraskans had asked themselves over the years, “What’s this wack-job doing in the Legislature?” But he was the choice over and over of his constituents… until term limits went into effect. Blind voting, sound familiar??

JimTernab; I’m not a racist…
Then why do you suppose you thought the man’s race was relevant to anything?
Silly is silly, no matter what the color.

Nothing wrong with saying somone is black – after all Obama certainly has a lot to say about it, although he’s actually a mulatto.
The word “racist” is being thrown around at anyone who has anything to say against someone who is black, so whats your point, aren’t you able to accept everyone being able to freely make a point about someones color without flipping out the “racist” card? I doubt it!

This goes to show how ridiculous the U.S. has become.
White people (who built this country from scratch) now have to assure others they are not racist while making a perfectly reasonable comment about someone who seems to be a laughable figure.

While I am on it did anyone see what Congressman John Murta said today?
He said there is “no question” that western Pennsylvania is racist. It had to do with the fact that Obama’s margin of victory over McCain will not be great in that area.
We are forever warned not to make stereotypes about blacks but Murtha called a vast area of the country where whites reside “racist”.
No word yet on how he feels about Northern or Eastern Pennsylvania.

As long as this moron reimburses the court and anyone else for its’ time or whatever, no harm. God will have His turn eventually.

And, of course, Nick, those people in Western PA wouldn’t vote for McCain for any other reason than being racist!

Victoria, Nick, JimTernab: What is relevant about this lawmaker’s race? Why did Jim feel it appropriate or necessary to introduce it into the discussion? It’s a simple question. Answer it.
NJL, perhaps you could answer.
Report comment to moderator
Arcadia, because he felt like it! Deal with it Arcadia, because we still have free speech, or is that now just for ‘certain’ races and those who have a special license to use white, red, yellow, or black?
Report comment to moderator
Arcadia, I think what JimTernab was trying to say is a lot people in predominantly black districts have a history of voting a straight party ticket without regard for the individual candidates. Nuts slip through.
The opposite happen to a friend of mine. He was running as a republican in a predominantly black district, but he was the preferred candidate of the local coalition. They even had him marked on their voters guide. But so many people voted straight ticket he lost. Any way

Arcadia,
It seems that you’re very sensitive when the word “black” mentioned.
In our family I didn’t realize how fed up our children are w/t the way Americans having to tip toe around the word BLACK ’til one day I heard their conversation. One of my sons asked about his black shoes. His older brother bantered, “Hey, are you racist? Say ‘where are my African American shoes’ next time, will ya!” Didn’t my teen have more sense than some people are in this black issue? Do we have to pretend the color weren’t there?(I agree it’s getting ridiculous, Nick H Peters) I am Asian, & we Asians consider ourselves yellow. My husband is white, & I call him white. Noone in my family feels more inferior or superior w/t those color coded terms (my kids teasingly call themselves off white sometimes).
Lately, another son asked, “Would they get mad if we write on our van ‘Vote for the black man’?” (He was just curious. Actually we will vote for the white man.)
Would you, Arcadia?

Sen Chambers had his idiotic, stunt case dismissed because the defendant, God, couldn’t be brought to court for a lack of address. Amusing to some, but I doubt that Chamber’s arrogance is amusing to God.
Chambers shouldn’t be disappointed though. Although the court lacks God’s address, God has Chamber’s address. HIS cases are never thrown out and Chambers WILL get his day in court against the God he despises.

I appreciated your post.
We live in a wonderful community here in Southern California. We have Anglo, Hispanic, Korean, Italian, Vietnamese, Iranians, Japanese, Swiss, German, Chinese, and a few others – almost all have come here in the past twenty years, working hard, using their professions to make their way in a new country. We ALL refer to one another either by name, or, the couple across the street, the Korean’s with the little boy – its just a normal comment, no one gets upset, no one cares – however, let it be black and the mood changes, anyone who is black is immediately strident –
Most people are fed up with this CLEAR CUT DOUBLE STANDARD. The blacks can call us white, but we aren’t to refer to them as black – it’s not working, no one has to walk on eggs to appease anyone. The excuses aren’t working either, people are different colors therefore they are known to be different in color and referred to as such.

Chambers’ race isn’t relevant to what I posted about him. His race was not mentioned in the initial post. He’s an idiot whatever color he is. I suspect Jim Ternab is relating this guy’s nonsense to the election somehow. My comment to Nick related to his news about Murtha calling the good people of Western PA racists because they don’t agree with him about Obama.

Victoria: I don’t understand your post. What is it that makes who strident?
And you still haven’t answered my question. Why was it relevant to the conversation to include the race of this stupid man? Do you think JimTernab would have, to use your term “felt like” doing the same thing if Mr Chambers were “Anglo, Hispanic, Korean, Italian, Vietnamese, Iranian, Japanese, Swiss or German”?
You betcha! (wink, wink).

Oh, good grief. Let’s look at the post in question:
“I’m from Nebraska– and I’m not a racist, just a realist. Chambers is black, from a predominately black district. Many Nebraskans had asked themselves over the years, “What’s this wack-job doing in the Legislature?” But he was the choice over and over of his constituents… until term limits went into effect. Blind voting, sound familiar??”
He’s saying that Chambers was elected because he was a black man running in a black district. He’s saying the blacks just voted for him ’cause he was black, regardless of his silliness.
Saying that doesn’t make him racist. It makes the people who voted for Chambers racist. But only if what he says is true.
Is it true? I don’t know. I’d hope there’s a better reason he got elected, but who knows.

Thanks for your post – I hope theres a better reason for getting elected as well, however as you said “but who knows.”
Report comment to moderator
“But who knows” means….?
Well, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr said something along this line, “Don’t judge a man by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.” I wrote that quote across the back of my mini van and ended with: Vote NO to Obama.
I’ve got the finger (the longest one) from a few drivers, and guess what? They’re all black. And a black woman blurted that she wanted to throw poop (the word starts w/t sh) on the van. I don’t understand what so offensive: saying vote no to Obama or MLK’s quote?!!
Maybe it has something to do with “But who knows”!
