Reba reborn…literally
Country music legend Reba McIntire believes she’s been here before. Here being Earth. In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, McIntire talked about reconciling her Christian faith with her belief in reincarnation.
“I believe I’ve gone both ways — that I have been here before as a man,” McIntire, 53, told the paper. ”I believe I have spent time with my son Shelby before. I believe I have spent time with other people in my life before. Who knows? Maybe I’m part Buddhist.”
McIntire knows this admission might rankle Christian fans, but said, ”I’m sorry, but this is how I live my life, this is what I believe.”

Reminds me of the woman pastor in Seattle who is also Muslim (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003751274_redding17m.html).

Endyblue, I was just thinking of her. I realize people pick and choose to some extent – we have all these denominations because there are legitimate areas of disagreement, after all – but when people go that far off the bible’s teachings, it just baffles me.

She can believe whatever she wants, but I don’t know what she means when she calls herself a Christian. Of course, Buddhists might take issue with her designation as well. Anyway, she can call herself whatever she wants, I guess. I think I’ll call myself a country music star because I like a couple of Johnny Cash songs.

I remember the old Reba.
She’s definitely “gone Hollywood” as they say.
Pity

I find reincarnation is the only idea of afterlife that makes much sense.

The way I look at it, we all “pick and choose” to one degree or another, even someone as “saintly” as Mother Theresa or Billy Graham. No one has perfect faith/religion (or non-faith/non-religion). And we’re all contradictory in some ways.
So I’m not worried about Reba. She’ll find her own way even if it isn’t orthodox.

Sorry Reba but Scripture sez pretty much the same thing as the old beer commercial: You only go around once in life

Of course some do get more rotations.
Adam-930 years
Seth 912
Enos 905
Cainan 910
Mahaleel 895
Jared 962
Enoch—may still be with us
And then there was Methuselah…
But, hey, re-incarnation is just silly.

Point taken, Arcadia

Jesus said to him (and to Reba) I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.
John 14.6
“She’ll find her own way…” those words are killer. Ain’t no other way, but through the Man who was and is God. We’ve got to respect God’s Word (because it is from and of God), otherwise we go our “own way.” How can we say we love God, if we love not the words from His lips? I cannot fathom it. Makes no sense to this boy.

Scripture also says that it is appointed for man(kind) to die once and after that face judgment. So Steve, your idea about re-incarnation doesn’t hold water.
Arcadia…..those were people’s ages. They only lived that one time, surely for a looooooooong time, though.

Theophilus: Sure it does. It’s your idea that the Bible contains all spiritual truth and no other traditions hold any truth that doesn’t hold water.

True Steve, but I am also reminded about Jesus Himself claiming exclusivity. When he said: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Nobody comes to the father, but through me (emphasis mine), I took that as Jesus claiming that no other access to God holds water.

Technically speaking, it doesn’t say “once and only once.”
Ain’t no other way, but through the Man who was and is God.
Reba would probably agree, she just thinks she gets extra chances.
But hey, I’ve never been a Reba fan … so, I guess I just hope she doesn’t come back as “Reba” next time.

You only die once? Humm, does that go for those people who claim to have seen hell or heaven? Do they die twice? You christians buy up those who write books about coming back from the dead like CRAZY! Oh, and all those poor saps that never heard of Jesus…. tisk tisk tisk, what a malevolent god you love… sending them all to hell when they know not of Jesus. You worship one messed up god. I’ll be having no parts of it.

Theo: I took that as Jesus claiming that no other access to God holds water.
Well, either he was or else the words were written and attributed to him later. However, you know (or believe) Jesus said this because the story is in the Bible. But if the Bible is not inerrant, the story might not be true or, if the story is true, Jesus’s belief about himself might be incorrect.

#16 Congratulations SteveG for providing context for that Theo’s Palin-esque sentence. I think I understand now…
Theo, it sounds like you are referring to quotations from the Gospel of John that are attributed to Jesus. But the lateness of that gospel’s composition (90 AD or later) + its discontinuity w/earlier sources has led modern scholars to reject attributions of phrases like “I am the vine” and “No one comes to the Father but by me” to the historical Jesus. It is almost certainly the case that a historical Jesus never said those things.

Scott (#15) Oh, and all those poor saps that never heard of Jesus…. tisk tisk tisk, what a malevolent god you love… sending them all to hell when they know not of Jesus. You worship one messed up god. I’ll be having no parts of it. Then you will answer to God on your own behalf without the only one who can save you, that is Christ Jesus Himself. Remember this scripture, Scott and Spinoza: (Romans 1: 18-20) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. (emphsis mine)
