The news … illustrated
Whether we’re talking about the economy or the presidential race, we all need to take a break and enjoy a good chuckle every now and then. That’s probably why one of the most popular features on WORLD’s website has been our Editorial Cartoons section. Here you’ll find the latest musings of cartoonists Gary Varvel, Michael Ramirez, and Steve Breen. Sometimes the messages these cartoonists convey are serious ones, delivered in a medium that often can be more powerful than words.
Here’s a sampling from all three:

Can someone explain the Snake cartoon? I take it the star on the sword is the clue to the meaning, but it’s lost on me…

Why all of a sudden are there jokes about the White House being for sale, when in the past it has been the Republicans who have been the leading fundraisers?
Or maybe I just haven’t noticed until now.

The cartoon refers to the news this week that the military made an airstrike on a terrorist center based in Syria. This base was the home of a key planner and strategist in the terrorist network in Iraq.

Really? I didn’t see anything about that…

MIM-
It was all over the news. Wherever you get your “news” may have decided you did not need to know.
Could it be because Obama has said that if he can’t enlist the cooperation of Pakistan, should we find bin Laden in Pakistan, he would do exactly as the Special Forces did in taking out this guy (and several others)? Your news source may not wish to lend credibility to Obama’s approach. Now I see why you say your news is biased.

“It was all over the news”.
I was rather busy on Sunday, and didn’t look at the online news, and don’t get news on the TV. So I probably missed it, if it wasn’t much in the news the rest of the week. There’s a lot of election coverage right now for some reason. And most of it is a positive spin on Obama the empty suit. So yes, my news is pretty slanted.

That “empty suit’s” strategy proved quite effective for the Special Forces
I do understand how things can go missing in the plethora of information we’ve had to deal with lately. We can only keep up with so much!

The incident in Syria was covered on our home page earlier this week, which is where you’ll find most of our news coverage. I invite you all to click over there every now and then and check it out.

I’ve been reading about Syria’s history in the last 100 years. The Smithsonian had an article on Syria/Iran in a recent issue. If their journalism can be trusted, I’ll have to change my thinking a great deal. Seems those folks have gotten a really raw deal between Britain, Russia, and the US running their country. I confess to great ignorance except for fairly recent events which involve the Ayatollah, the hostage situation, and the present inflammatory president. We’re responsible for a lot of the problems that present themselves in that region at this point.

Mickey,
I’m looking on your home page, but for such a significant incident that only happened 5 days ago, it’s hidden awfully well. Even using the search feature it’s not coming up- I typed in “syria us strike” and “iran us strike” and nothing. Nada. Zip.

For a lot of our international breaking news, we have to rely on AP, and it was their reports we linked to on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Here’s the link to the story we had up yesterday.

RPN,
The difference is vast. The young, naive and dangerous Obama talks about things he shouldn’t talk about and would never ever do. Bush does things he knows better than to talk about in the first place – if you want to do them. You canlt trust a lefty with your life or money. They don’t even have a walk to talk about.

My dad always said the only honest pages in the paper are the editorial and comics pages. That is why I usually only read those pages (and sports). These are great representatives of the art of political humor. I keep forgetting to go to your daily cartoon. Gotta go more often.
