Happy Thursday!
Today’s quote is from a 4th century philosopher: “Criticism is something we can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”

It’s too late in the morning for me to be first. Where is everyone?

Now, now, Lynn. The election is over.

They’re doing a scrabble. I googled the quote and it says it was quoted on “Whirled Views”. I’ll bet you won’t get any takers Lynn.
Did they have philosophers in the fourth century? I thought everyone was just trying to survive then.

Here’s a quote for you:
We are a nation that has a government-not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the Earth. Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.
Ronald Reagan, January 20, 1981
As quoted in The Failure Factory by Bill Gertz

I saw this earlier, Brad, but had no idea. Who was even around in the 300s? St. Augustine?

Lynn,
It would be clearer if you specified 4th century B.C..
And Chas, because the quote has been translated to English from another language, different translators will put words in slightly different order. The one I located had the word “easily” before the word “avoid” rather than after, so you can’t simply google for the whole phrase. But coolQuotes has it.

Sawgunner, Bill Gertz, in The Failure Factory says,
“In Iraq, politically correct policies imposed by lawyers have forced soldiers to use vague rules of engagement that leave troops questioning whether they can fire back when terrorists or insurgents shoot at them.”
Does this sound right?

Chas,
We are a nation pf little piggies that was taken over by a majority of have nots, pickpockets and thieves who do not care what slop they are swilled by the new Marxist slaughter house owners – before they end up as bacon.

Obama realizes that he cannot bail out every lefty with their hands out and that we are heading into a depression, not a recession that will put him way above and beyond Jimmy Carter.
Lefty supposed news magazines who have no shame, picture the Messiah as FDR on their new propaganda cover which is so apropo. No matter how big the government work programs became the soup kitchen lines got longer and longer during the depression. Obama knows the only way the depression ended the last time was the advent of WW2.
The Socialist and Marxist left aways hated the NAFTA agreement Clinton made them swallow so it would not surprise me that Obama ends up attacking Mexico and Canada to occupy Ottawa and Mexico City to remove the stain of NAFTA and end this latest lefty caused depression. Let’s see if the Messiah is as smart as FDR who forced Japan to attack us first while claiming disbelief and total astonishment that they would do so. How an all knowing god could pull off this feat of not knowing it was coming will be fun to watch

Hey RPN- Missouri finally gave it’s electoral votes to McCain. First time since 1956 we have not picked the winner. I don’t know why it took so long, though, other than that it was within a few thousand votes.

Thanks, Pauline. I finally get to guess the source of a quote.
And the answer is…Aristotle.

The walls are going up on my house today. The framing was finished yesterday and today the sheathing is going on. Out in the yard are the trusses and as soon as we come up with an idea on how to get them on the roof, they will be going up. It is possible snow this afternoon, but we are working at the speed of volunteers and when they find time, it is moving quickly though not fast. Quick enough for us on the inside. Daughter is arriving today and I am happy for that.

God bless you & yours, Mumsee.

Wonderful, Mumsee! How many kids this week?
Report comment to moderator
Five for the indefinite future, and they are doing great together so far. It is fun to see the growing away from the need for tv and video games as they turn back into children: outdoor games like baseball and basketball and fort building, indoor games like Monopoly and Risk, and reading fill their time. Laughter fills the air and it is a joy to be part of it. Eldest daughter returns this afternoon, eldest son next Monday, and hubbie next Wednesday. Sure could use the extra room but it will work! Thanks for praying.

Glad to hear that the walls are going up, Mumsee. It has probably been a bit brisk some nights if you have open walls to the outside where you’re doing the addition. Brrr. Friends of mine were doing that when I was on furlough 4 years ago. October in New York was too cold for me when one wall was open to the outside. I told them I loved them, but next I time I visited I would prefer walls!

No, they have been most kind, leaving the interior walls until aftr the outside is enclosed. They did take out one door and replaced it with plywood. But I still sleep with the windows open so no room for complaint. We are delighted with the entire project and pleased that it came at a time to provide work and purpose to some who sorely needed it in addition to giving us more space. Wish hubby could be here to enjoy the process, but then who would pay the bills?

Is it too early to rave about warm cranberry-orange and cholcolate chip muffins? I have to test both. Just doing my job.

Chas,
Didn’t your mother ever teach you to share? Also, that you’re not supposed to talk (to us) with food in your mouth? (That’s my rant.)

Oh, Chas. It’s a rough life, but someone has to live it. Mmm-mmm.

Chas, when it comes to something so scrumptious, it’s always a good time for a tasting!
Just make sure the accompanying eggnog is fresh too! Yummy…….
From Jay leno the other night: The latest news is that Barack Obama has offered the job of secretary of state to Hillary Clinton., and she has accepted. That’s kind of sad considering how close Hillary came to being the first female president. Imagine after that — her next job offer? Secretary.
Hillary Clinton might make a very good secretary of state — she can cackle in seven different languages.
Actually this works out great for the Clintons. While Hillary is concentrating on foreign affairs, Bill can get back to concentrating on domestic affairs.
